At this place, there was likely to be an abundance of both. "Both are managable in small numbers," she offered rather helpfully, thinking about the horrible murder of crows that inhabited the area. Perhaps it was a good thing Violet wasn't too interested in the outdoors. "And you know how I feel about ghosts. Old wives' tales."

"Mayhaps." Violet shrugged. "I don't expect to see a ghost dripping blood or anything but I'm not sure they don't exist, either."

"Would presume that if it bleeds, it's not a ghost," replied Dacey, smiling a little. "In any case," she trailed off for a bit, picking up her bow and quiver. "I'm going to the yard, get some training done before it gets dark. You're welcome to join me," she offered.

Violet laughed. "I don't even know how to shoot a bow! I've no desire to learn but I could come watch, if you're sure I won't be a distraction. But I'm not like you, I don't think it would be fitting for me to stroll around my future husband's castle with weapons in hand."

Dacey seemed a tad amused; having been to a number of battles, it'd take a lot more than Violet to distract her from shooting arrows for practice. "As you wish," she said instead of asking an explanation, and moved to the door. "I could teach you to shoot one, if you wanted. At the very least, you'd get some fresh air."

"I'd rather watch," Violet insisted. "I'd like the air but that's enough for me. Though perhaps one day I'll find someone able to teach me a few new tricks with a dagger;. But that's the most martial thing I ever want to do."

"Perhaps so," Dacey agreed, though failed to see how carrying a dagger was any more ladylike than carrying a bow. Then again, what did she know. She opened the door and saw them out.

///////////////////////////////////////////
1st of the 3rd Moon
Having heard Edmure's version of the battle against Olaf the devourer, Willem had been initially satisfied with the explanation he received. However, since for some reason nobody else seemed to attach any thread of credibility to Edmure's word, he saw no harm in hearing Dacey's version of events. Furthermore she had promised him an explanation of why she had needlessly sent him away before a battle, and a week on he had yet to receive it. That irked him and even if Dacey's answer turned out to be that Dacey was a petty highborn who could not tolerate opinions other than her own, Willem figured it was better to know so he could treat her with caution in their future interactions.
Garbed in a cheap tan woolen tunic, and leaving his weapons in his own quarters, he made his way to Dacey's quarters, after inquiring for directions from several servants. Finding what he believed to be her door, he knocked brusquely.

After a while, he heard a shuffle and the sound of a latch being removed. Dacey opened the door, dressed similarly plainly, though in darker colours. Her hair wasn't braided as per usual, but rather cascading down her back. Her new black cloak was wrapped around her shoulders. She looked at him briefly and figured he was there for the explanation she'd promised him at the clay pits. With a nod, she moved away from the door so Willem could step in.
The room itself was almost unbearably cold despite there being a fire going. Both the windows were wide open, and a glass on the window sill suggested Dacey had been hanging out in the area. The view was mighty fine, though. If you squinted, you could almost even see the clay pits.
"I don't have anything to offer you," she admitted, as she didn't keep any wine in her room and had just ran out of water.

"An explanation of why you sent me away before attacking the bandits would be a start, my lady." Willem replied, saying the last after a pause. He followed her into her room. "I swore my sword to your brother. To send me away for reinforcements you didn't intend to use makes me feel...unvalued to say the least."
He glanced around the room taking in its meagre decore. His eyes latched on to Olaf's corpse, and stayed there momentarily, but he said nothing of it for the time being, wanting one explanation at a time.

True to her word, Dacey had brought one (1) chair to her room. She offered it to Willem, preferring to lean against the wall next to one of the windows.
"Of course. You've earned as much," she said. "I sent you for reinforcements I hoped we wouldn't have to use, but you brought up the opportunity, I figured it would be good to have backup. We attacked straight away anyway because that was what we would've done, had you not been in the area. I didn't think it wise to risk the bandits leaving or seeing us. Beside, these were the men Hoster had assembled for the hunt and they should have sufficed, given the advantages we had. For a number of reasons, they did not. Needless to say, I will exercise more caution the next time."
She'd already thanked him for bringing the reinforcements at the scene, so wasn't going to now. Ironic as it was, she'd had more reason to trust Hoster's goons back at the clay pits, rather than someone she'd never met before. Hoster's goons had fought beside them in the war. "I put my trust in the wrong men. Blame me, if you must."

Willem sat, accustomed to taking weight off his foot when he could. He nodded his thanks to Dacey as she spoke.
"I still don't understand why you would not tell me that was the plan before I departed. Or sent one of the guardsmen accompanying me instead. I think it should have been quite clear I would have been worth more in a fight. My lady."
Willem shrugged. "I am not here to blame you. I think your choice was poor, but it is hardly my place to tell you that."
He looked for a moment to be done speaking, before reconsidering and staring at her cautiously for a moment. He then continued, apparently deciding she deserved the wisdom he was about to impart. "I would not trust Hoster in the future were I you. It is not just his men that are self-serving and unreliable."

"I wasn't sure you would've gone otherwise," she said. "Having never met nor heard of you, I have no idea of your worth in a fight. I'd be interested to meet you in the yard some day, though."
She hadn't exactly been close war buddies with Hoster and would never have said she'd blindly trust him with her life, but Hoster had done well in the clay pits. "How do you know Hoster?" she inquired. It occurred to her she still knew next to nothing about Willem.

"In my experience a knight is worth more than a guardsman. But if you need to face someone personally to determine their worth, then I would be willing to train with you." He left unsaid his assumption that he would have to take it easy on a fool who had managed to sustain a considerable amount of damage to her back by picking a needlessly risky fight with what he assumed were largely untrained bandits. "Hoster is my father." Willem said with deep bitterness. "He murdered my mother and abandoned me as a child. I made my own way in the world, no thanks to him."

Dacey didn't bother to mention that before she'd asked his name after the clay pits, she'd not known he was a knight. She also didn't have anything to say to the second part, having thought of the offer as a friendly spar rather than a pissing contest.
She was quiet for a while after Willem's last words, letting the information sink in. It definitely sounded Hoster-esque, though she was used to taking everything with a grain of salt, at least at first. She crossed her arms. "And you're looking for... reconciliation?" she asked, slightly skeptical, assuming that if he was looking for revenge, he would have killed the old man already.
