"You only need to convince one or two," Kyle said. He'd had his share of experience with thieves. "Given half a chance they'll turn on each other if nothing else. Make it easier to get the real nasty ones."

"Nah," Benjen said, "I'll wait a tenday or two before I mention it. Still, it's something that could bear keeping in mind. You never know how many of these bandits are just men driven to desperation." He finished his beer and ordered another. "Of course, the ones that aren't, we kill. And that's always a little interesting, isn't it?" He gave Other Benjen a wolfish smile, a hungry, almost mad look in his eyes.

He looked between Kyle and Benjen and shrugged. "Might even work," he allowed, "But seems just as likely whoever you send to spread the word gets his throat cut. Or a couple of 'em join the mason's crew to scout the place out, then pass that knowledge back to their bandit buddies." Ben didn't respond to Snow's last question, misliking the crazed look in the man's eye.

Benjen's gaze returned to normal as he pondered the possibilities, then shrugged, "Who's to say we can't do the same? Have a newcomer, like me, go into the bandit camp, ask to join, then start slitting throats in the night." It was a... well, cutthroat notion, but one that had always worked in his experience.

Kyle chuckled. "I'll be sure to let you gentlemen know if any unsavory types are around. They don't pay worth a damn and they harass the good women too often anyway."

"Something to think on," Ben replied. That seemed risky to him too, but hell, it would just be Snow's own ass if he wanted to try it. He looked at Nyles, an idea slowly coming to him. "If you hear anything like that, or anything else strikes you troublesome, I'd be happy to pass some extra coin your way."

Kyle nodded. "Of course," he said. "The innkeeper always has a solution." He looked about. "I plan on opening for official purposes the day after tomorrow. Tell your friends!"
