Character History
Born the first son of Ser Bruce Blackfort, Belric was the product of a small house with small ambition. However, no one would ever refer to Belric small. As a boy he grew quickly, his stature a direct mirror of his thick headedness. Belric gained a reputation as a fighter at an early age, known to take on the older bullies of Harroway. The majority of his fights were in defense of his fathers name or his three younger sisters and kid brothers. Belric took the responsibility of protecting his siblings very seriously, regardless of wether the sentiment was returned. He inspired respect form his peers, a trait that would follow him despite his lowly lineage.
Ser Bruce took notice of Belric’s strength and aggression, taking every opportunity to teach him the sword. He was mentored by his uncles, and trained by the Harroway Guard, a blade never far from his hand. Belric tried to pass this knowledge off through tutelage of his younger siblings, (sisters name) growing to be his brightest pupil. As a squire for his uncle Richard, Belric eventually earned his knighthood and a post guarding the black gate; a position held by his family for seven generations. With honor he served Lord Harroway, never wanting for wealth or prestige. After his fathers death at the hands of a ruthless Piper, Belric retained command of the gate and hatred for a new enemy.
When the Blackfyre Rebellion ignited, Ser Belric and the Blackfort house were of the first men to take up arms and join Daemon Blackfyre under the Harroway banners. Brandishing a two-handed great sword, Belric was a force of nature, cutting through enemy defenses like a sailor cuts through the tide. They fought many skirmishes in the first year, winning ground while losing men in the seemingly endless civil war.
At the Battle of Redgrass, Belric was twenty-one years old, a battled hardened warrior with a taste for carnage. He fought on the front lines with Daemon Blackfyre, inspired by his true king’s prowess on the battlefield. It was Belric’s respect for Daemon that led him to scout the hillside, while Blackfyre tended his wounds. Accompanied by his uncles Hoster and Richard, brothers Edmure and (names), younger sister Dacey, cousin Willis and long time friend Yoren Donnelwood, Belric set out on foot. Under the heat of the sun, hidden behind the tree line, Belric and his men encountered Bryden “Bloodraven” Rivers. He watched as the albino sorcerer assembled his archers atop the Weeping Ridge; a strategic extermination point overlooking Blackfyre’s camp.
Throwing self-preservation to the wind, Belric and his men charged Bloodraven. He was never a man from strategy, preferring to solve his problems with the edge of a sword. The field separating the two forces was sizeable, granting the enemy enough time to release a single volley of arrows. Like heavy stones, men fell, never to rise again. Two managed to pierces Belric’s armor, the first in his shoulder and the second in his thigh. Nevertheless, he ran on, pulling the arrow free of his thigh, driving the barb through the forehead of the first archer he reached. The second, third, and fourth of his enemies were cut down by a single swing of his great-sword. Like a tsunami, the men of house Blackfort washed over Bloodraven’s forces, the archers easily succumbing to the sharp bite of steel.
Belric, overcome by rage and adrenaline, suddenly found himself standing before Bryden Rivers, the albino’s Valyrian steel sword covered in the blood of Harroway men. The two fought ferociously, Bloodraven was fast, but Belric was strong. He took a fair number of wounds, including a deep gash to the left side of his face that would develop into a permanent scar. With a powerful shoulder to the chest, Belric knocked Bloodraven from his feet. The lowly knight pressed Bryden to the ground with a heavy knee, taking the bastard lord’s throat in his hand. With his powerful grip around the sorcerers throat, Belric lifted the man up and off of his feet, throttling the life from him. Suspending Bloodraven out with one strong arm, Belric spoke the words in scorn, “Blood begets blood.” He then rammed his sword through Bloodraven’s stomach, gutting him like a struggling fish.
Belric Blackfort was never once considered a smart man, and in fact he was ignorant to the implications of his actions. It was only after he returned to camp, and was bestowed praise by Daemon Blackfyre himself, that Belric realize the magnitude of his destiny. The Black Dragon named him “Ravensbane,” and declared him a hero amongst men. After the battle, Lord Harroway paraded him around endlessly, cementing him as a pillar of the rebellion. Among hearing his name shouted in the street, Belric never had to pay for a drink or a wench again.
Over the course of the war, Daemon and Belric became fast friends, taken by each other’s mutually impressive reputation. They spent a fair amount of time together during the rebellion, sharing stories of home while hiding from enemy Dornishmen. Belric made a vow to protect Daemon, following him into battle from that day forward. For years they laid siege to Kings Landing, fighting to put the crown on Blackfyre's head. When victory was finally won, Daemon awarded Belric a Lordship over Harrenhal and the hand of his half sister. Despite what many would think, Belric was reserved about his lordship, knowing himself as a soldier and not a politician. However, he would not reject the will of his King, vowing to play his part in creating a strong kingdom under the Blackfyre banner.
