"Had I known, do you think I would have still come here?" she asked with a slight smile, keeping her eyes on him as he stood, aware that he was one of the only people in this castle she had a ridiculous height difference with. "Is that so?" she asked. "Well. You haven't ran into me yet."

"I wasn't going to approach you in your quarters," Benjen said, "And asking around for your whereabouts could be cause for suspicion from some of the more wary members of the house." He looked down at her, only now realizing how petite she was compared to him. There was more than a head's difference between the two of them, only exaggerated by the fact that she was leaning against the weirwood while he stood upright.
"I would like to propose to you a proposition," He continued, as if one could do anything else with a proposition in the first place. "A proposition that I would care to propose to you over a tankard or two down at the Lonely Ghost."

Dacey must've realized as much herself, because she pushed herself off the tree, though even her impeccable posture couldn't do much against a northerner's genes. The first part of what he'd said had amused her a little, but she kept her face straight for the next part. "Are you trying to get me drunk?" she deadpanned.

"Of course. But not until after we discuss business, if that would make you more comfortable. To get to the meat of the issue, Lord Belric has put me in charge of... peacekeeping. I need about a dozen more sets of hands in order to take out a few bandit camps that may still be lingering within the borders," he explained before pointing at her. "And I would like one of those sets of hands to be you. You made it out of the clay pits alive, and you know the men better than I do. You're bordering on a hero, and having you with the group would serve as a major morale booster."

"Your tales really are as tall as you," she said, and smiled a little despite herself, knowing better now than to tell Benjen Snow he was full of shit. "I'll help, of course. Can't help but wonder, though... Belric was fine with this?" she asked, unsure how much he'd really heard about the clay pits.

"He told me to get a team together, and I'm a newcomer here," Benjen said, holding up a single finger. "The men know you. They respect you. You," he pointed at her, coming dangerously close to prodding her in the chest, "are a Blackfort. I'm just some bastard from the north that their lord decided to give a job. I need you, Dacey," he said, hoping that she would join up with him. Admittedly, the last line may have sounded a little more romantically-inclined than intended.

A large crow landed on the branch of the weirwood tree, looking from Benjen to Dacey, as if evaluating its odds.

It just stares...and stares...its gaze boring into their souls...it's eyes containing the abyss...the one that looks back...seeing who would flinch before it...

Benjen saw the big crow alight on one of the branches and felt his blood run cold. "Friend of yours?" He asked Dacey, only half joking. He'd seen a lot of strange things in his time, especially in the year he spent across the Narrow Sea, working in the Free Cities. This was definitely a set of something bizarre, though. A crow, even one as large as this, shouldn't have filled him with such a sense of unease.

"No... Don't move," she said, keeping her eyes on crow and slowly reaching for her bow, seeing a great opportunity here. She'd never once seen Crowzilla around without its massive posse. It had drawn blood on her once, so...
Without making any sudden movements, she nocked an arrow and aimed it.

Benjen watched her, frozen where he stood, as she drew her bow and aimed at the bird. He didn't know whether it would be better or worse if she killed it. Nevertheless, he tensed up to run should the worst come to pass.

She felt the wounds on her back stretch, a bit of blood dribbling out to stain her shirt, as she pulled back the heavy bowstring and loosed. It skewered the crow, like a shish kebab, a burst of feathers and blood as a weapon designed to bring down people was used against small game. It was dead before it hit the ground, the slayed bird corpse coming to rest on the roots of the tree. A beat later another crow, of equal size, landed where the first had been, to continue the staring contest. It cawed...sounding eerily like a derisive laugh.

"Dacey," Benjen said calmly, "While I do admire your ability to kill birds, perhaps we should leave before more of its friends show up. I'm not fond of animals larger than they should be. Not after the incident with those cats from the Dothraki Steppes." He started to move towards the exit of the godswood and hoped that she would follow. "Hell, after seeing that, I feel like i owe you the first round."

Frowning, Dacey looked from the defeated Crowzilla to the one that had risen in its place. She didn't believe any of these Harrenhal tales, but every time she saw the crows, she got the nagging feeling that something was amiss. She put away the bow and retrieved the arrow. The sutures on her back were a little itchy more than anything else, really.
"I'm not fond of them either," she said and started back as well, catching up to Benjen easily enough. Normally, she would've questioned whatever he'd said about the cats, but the crows were too fresh on her mind. "You do realize you already made your proposition?" she inquired after a while. "Makes the middleman rather moot."

"The first round is dependent on your acceptance of the proposition," He said, pausing just by the exit of the godswood and offering her his hand, "So. Partners?"

Dacey looked from his extended hand to his face. "Well I accept your proposition, but I don't really drink," she said, not shaking his hand yet.
