"I knew you were the right man to consult on this matter." replied Edmure appreciatively. "It will not be forgotten Ser, especially if we are able to bring this bandit problem to a successful conclusion. I shall mention your assistance to my brother when he returns."

He beamed at the compliment, but merely declared, "Thank you, but 'tis only my function as custodian of this beautiful township. Do you intend to handle these mongrel robbers yourself before your brother's return?"

"I'm unsure as yet." replied Edmure. "Were my brother here, I would lead the hunt for Bronn myself. However he is not. Events in Atranta will determine the way forward on this."

When Valarr didn't reply, Edmure rose. "It appears we have little more to discuss Ser Valarr. I thank you again for your assistance. The patrols will start on the morrow. Qhorin the mason will also be sent to inspect the walls and make what repairs we can with what we currently have."

Ser Valarr snapped out of his reverie. "Apologies. I was thinking of Atranta and the last time I saw it. Time has not been kind to that family. Come, I will walk you out." Through some miracle of physics, he actually managed to stand up without losing breath.

//////// 19th Day of the 20th Moon (This takes place before Edmure and Belric's parlay)
While in Harrentown, visiting Jamie the Smith, Belric made a trip to the office of the Town Magistrate. he had need of Ser Valarr, and was in a mood to repay loyalties after all the betrayal he had been forced to stomach.

He was greeted by a boy dressed in the livery of a common page. He pushed open the door and cried out, "'Oo calls upon the Knight of'arrentown?!"
The child looked up at Belric with a defiance that belies both youth and ignorance. He had a training sword by his side he seemed prepared to whack Belric with and call it the justice of the Seven.

"What a fine Knight of 'arrentown you are." Belric replied with a smile, mimicking the boy's accent. He then ruffled the child's hair with a gentle hand. "We apologize Ser, for our unannounced arrival. Rude as it may be however, I am here to see Ser Valarr. Go and tell him Belric has come to his door."

He went pale before sprinting through the house. "Ser Valarr! Lord Blackfort 'imself is here!!"
In a moment, the floorboards begin quaking as the fat knight himself appears. "Petyr! Bring out the best wine! And I mean the best wine on the second shelf, not the first! Have Lysa bring crumpets!"
He then bowed before his master. "My lord! Welcome to the humble abode of justice itself!" Without armor to bind his weight together, he seemed even larger. It was likely he employed children because aside from dwarves, no other person could navigate this house without fear of perchance being crushed to death.

Belric entered the home and examined his surroundings discerningly. He did his best not to balk at the man's size. While the people of Harrentown had starved, Ser Valarr had clearly endured. After having spent his life among fit soldiers, Belric had his reservations about any man who discarded their own health. "Harrentown seems to be recovering, Ser Valarr. Tell me of our progress and the needs of the people."

Valarr lead him into a study, which had as many as any Maester's library. "The people fare well, my lord. Your cessation of taxes has done much to help them recover fiscally, and there has been almost no hint of criminal malice within the walls of the township itself. Indeed, I would say that Harrentown is tremendously fond of you and your family. The fact that none of your own guards has slit Ser Simon's throat in the castle while he sleeps is a great testament to the respect they hold for you personally."

"Expectations were low when we arrived." He spoke while glancing over some of Valarr's books, looking for anything related to Harrenhal's construction. He had never been much of a reader, however his wife had been pressuring him into the habit. "The people are happy to have a sense or normality back, but Ser Simon's throat is still very much at risk. I question wether the men have spared him for their love of me, or their fear of him."
Remembering the Magistrate, Belric returned his attention to Valarr and offered a polite smile. "You have done well here, Ser Valarr, and now that I have returned to Harrenhal, it is time that we talk." He took an open chair, "When we spoke last, it was of a reward for your loyalties. While a bed in a tower is a fine thing, your skills may be of use in other facets. Harrentown benefits from your presences, perhaps the castle can as well. What do you know of the day to day duties of running a keep?"

Belric finds himself reminded of the books passed to him by the Grand Maester himself just before he left King's Landing all those months ago.
"Much and more, my lord, but..." His bright red face beneath it's bright red beard seemed torn between elation and trepidation. "While I should make a fine castellan, as I have done so in the past for others... You may feel disinclined upon learning the tale of my past service. Not to House Lothston, understand, whom I have never owed any fealty, but rather my own kin far north of here."

Belric watched Valarr, his curiosity peaked by the Magistrates mysterious past. "Do tell."
