Character History:
Yseult was born a bastard to Lord Lucamore Roote of Lord Harroway's Town. Her father did not legitimize her, despite having no trueborn children of his own, but did make sure she got a number of chances she would not have had otherwise and did indulge her a little.
It was said this was done in the hope she might be able to get decent work away from the estate, the betrothed was not happy with her being around, but was not harsh to her and did not blame her for the circumstances of her birth, although her mother was made to find work elsewhere out of the Lady's sight once Yseult was old enough to not need constant mothering.
Rumor said that the betrothal was broken over Lucamore's bastard, though the impending war was the more likely culprit.
It was made sure that the young Yseult was taught some of the womanly crafts such as being able to sew to a reasonable level, well enough to keep her clothes in good order and embellish the edges and perhaps a bodice with simple embroidery.
Yseult proved to have a sweet singing voice and as a child often entertained guests with songs after a meal
From a young age she showed an aptitude in household management, accounting for goods used and the mathematics involved with such work.
Her other passion while growing up was tracking and shooting smaller game to put on the table, usually managing to come up with something even when the main hunt had lean pickings, as the Lord Roote was not so much about the providing of food as the thrill of the chase and the glory of the kill, unfortunately his hounds loved blood sport as much as their master and often left the animals in a poor state to be served on the table.
She has a keen mind and spent her time split between the management of the household and serving up hearty, if of dubious content, meals. After all if you stew it long enough and flavor it well enough before making it in to a pie who's to say whether its rabbit, squirrel or a couple of braces of nice fat rats.
Once old enough, her father insisted she learn the ways that men want women and how to protect herself and her body. Lord Lucamore also made sure that Yseult received some knife instruction to better protect herself should it be needed.
At the age of around ten Yseult started noticing discrepancy's in the household ledgers. By almost fourteen Yseult managed to get enough solid evidence from checking accounts and watching the staff around her to incriminate a few of the kitchen staff and a couple of the household staff for skimming the thought unmissed coin here and there and a large number of goods over time from the storeroom to line their own pockets and bellies, there was never ample food for the staff during the war, but no one starved so the motivation was greed not starvation.
Lord Roote made a public spectacle of punishing the disloyal staff. One of the staff involved was the assistant housekeeper, for which to give her experience until a better option was found Yseult took on the role, retiring to her more usual place of assistant kitchen staff once the place of housekeeper was satisfactorily filled a few months later.
Yseult was pretty much confined to the kitchen and hunting small game once her womanly features began to develop and she was under strict orders to not even think about bedding anyone of rank and if she bedded anyone it was to be utterly discrete. Her personal reputation is impeccable and if she has taken a lover it has not reached any general gossips.
Hearing word that the new Lady Harrenhal is looking for a suitable handmaiden, Lord Lucamore Roote has procured for Yseult an interview.
