Willem scowled slightly as Jormun went out of his way to undermine Edmure, and glanced to the castellan to see what he would do.

Dacey gave Jormun a nod of approval before he left, now even more annoyed at the "duel regulations" Edmure had clearly pulled out of his ass. A crossbow wasn't going to do half the damage to the hedge knight's plate her bow would have.

Willis had taken command and deployed the men. He kept an eye on the duel-to-be, not sure why they were still having a conversation instead of killing the giant fucker.

"They can name whoever they like as their champion." Willem commented to Edmure quietly. "We agreed to this, and we ought not to abandon the course now. It will only make you look afraid or weak." "Agreed." he replied to Willem. "I had no intention in withdrawing. The question was whether you were fully fit to face this Ser Duncan. I wasn't sure." As Jormun impetuously started forward to challenge Ser Duncan, he began to protest but then fell silent. The Gods had apparently made their own choice. So be it. "One final matter need to be decided Sers." he said loudly to Smallwood and Piper to waited a distance away. "First yield, or to the death?"

Willem looked less than impressed. He spoke strongly but quietly. "I am fully fit to fight, yes. Was it not your decision that I would fight if fully fit? You are in command, not Jormun. This isn't a time for personal glorification, people's lives and Lord Vance's village are at stake. You thought me the better champion before, has that changed since I healed?"

"You were my first choice.....yes." replied Edmure in a voice that could not be heard by Smallwood and Piper, while he waited for their reply. He could barely control his fury.
"However as my fucking bastard brother has taken matters into his own hands, we cannot allow our enemies to see disunity in our ranks. We need to make it seem as if he was our first choice after all, even though he is not. He'd better fucking win, that's all I can say."
He cursed Jormun again under his breath.
He lowered his voice still further, the furious edge still discernible.
"Rest assured Willem. I will not forget your contribution and willingness to fight for our cause. Nor will I let Belric forget. And win or lose, Piper will not have the killer of his man."

"You would sooner see your own men watch your orders flaunted before your face than let Smallwood and Piper see your brother is a self-serving ass?" Willem asked incredulously.

They do not know my orders." said Edmure still quietly.
"Only you, Willis, Jormun and Dacey know that you were my first choice. I agree Jormun is a self-serving ass and if not for the bigger picture of ensuring Lord Vances' people are fed this winter, by securing that mill, I would gladly see him set upon that skinny ass by Ser Duncan over there. But for now, we have little choice now but to smile, cheer him on and hope like the seven hells that he wins. That's what I want you to do, Willem. Let me try and salvage something out of this mess that started with the death of Piper's man."

While it was true that they did not know Edmure's orders and could not make out his words in the harsh whispering, it did not take a genius to see there was a disagreement.
"Do you need a moment to get your house in order, ser?" Smallwood inquired, with a smirk, as Vance smacked his forehead with an open palm in mortification. "Preferably not another week."
"When the alternative is the hedges, I am certain my man will fight until the death," Piper replied, as Ser Duncan sized up Jormun through the slit in his greathelm. "If you man wishes to yield, I am not without mercy." He flashed a razor thin smile, perhaps noting the irony of the statement with a family of three swinging from a nearby tree.

Jormun had made his bed Edmure thought darkly, he could lie in it.
"To the death then." he replied firmly, glancing darkly at Vance, who he really didn't recall asking to accompany him.
His features frozen, he nodded curtly to Jormun, before ordering Willem and the other four knights who had accompanied him to retire to a vantage point where they could watch the contest.

Willem, still looking aggravated, did not argue with Edmure any further. "As you would have it, Ser." He commented before following him away from the bridge.

Ser Alester Shoreham was not one for small talk, and had been mostly silent during the ride to Armistead's Crossing, aside from the brief reunion with Lord Roger. The two men had not seen each other in years, though whether they were friends or distant kin, his new masters could not tell.
Now he waited by Vance, observing the scene. He did not seem impressed yet.

The respective parties pulled back to their respective sides of the bridge. Well, technically both sides of the bridge were Smallwood's at the moment, but they allowed the illusion of control at least...despite his knights remaining in their posts in the village.
Jormun and the massive hedge knight faced one another on opposite sides of the bridge, only wide enough for a single horse and carriage to cross, the latter bracing his shield and drawing his longsword. For a moment there was only the sound of the gently flowing stream. Then Happy took flight, with a blood curdling shriek. Jormun lifted his crossbow and Ser Duncan charged across the bridge, plate boots thundering across the wooden planks, shield raised before him and a battle cry on his lips.
(Agility Roll for Dunk the Lunk to decide how many rounds between 1 and 3 of fighting Jormun will have until he reaches him. Result: 2) (Ser Giant: Due to his massive size, a 110+ rather than a 100+ is required to deathblow Ser Duncan the Tall. Likewise a -110 rather than a -100 in wounds is required to mortally wound him) (FALCON PUNCH-Your falcon does not always play well with others. Result: Heads. Happy will lend aid as much as he is able.)

Shooting:
Jormun took aim and fired, undeterred by the behemoth thundering towards him. When you had stood against a charging grizzly bear, what was there to fear from an above average sized human? The first bolt lanced through the air, glancing harmlessly off Ser Duncan's armor as he plodded along. The huntsman skillfully reloaded and took aim again, the taut bowstring singing as he fired another shot. By some miracle (or more likely subpar steel in the hedge knight's cheap shoddy plate) the bolt hit the knight's breastplate, punching clean through it and deep between his ribs. The massive man merely grunted as he closed the gap, forcing Jormun to drop the crossbow and take up spear and shield.
(Dunk takes a Medium Wound for -10. +3 Crossbows to Jormun for a 96 in the second roll against Dunk's 4. Amusingly enough, had Dacey been the champion, that would have been a deathblow and this would have been the most anticlimactic duel in history.)

Fighting:
The massive knight aims a horizontal swipe at Jormun, trying to end the fight quickly by taking the huntsman's head off his shoulders. The bastard is in no such hurry, turning to the side and ducking the blow, before sidestepping behind the knight and shoving his spearpoint into the weak joint in Dunk's armor behind his knee. (Dunk takes a Medium Wound for -10)
Roaring in pain, Ser Duncan went to one knee, still taller than Jormun even in this position. He feinted left as if to turn with another sideways strike with his sword, but as Jormun juked to the opposite side, he was met with a haymaker from the man's kite shield. The blunt instrument shattered his nose and fractured his cheek, sending a gout of blood down his face. (Jormun Takes a Medium Wound for -15)
Jormun takes a step back, toward the side of the bridge his opponent had originally started on, hearing jeers from Smallwood's men behind him. His spearpoint lances out as the massive man rounds on him, keeping him at bay, though it glanced harmlessly off the thick armor. (Dunk ignores Light Wound due to plate)
As Dunk lifts his longsword for a cleaving blow, Jormun's spear strikes again, the point burying itself in the weak spot below his left armpit. He drives it deep and twists the haft, hearing the gentle hiss of air seeping out as he punctured a lung. (Dunk takes a Heavy Wound for -25)
Short of breath as one of his lungs deflated and he felt a sharp pain in his chest, Ser Duncan aimed to bash his shield in Jormun's face again, but the wily huntsman jumps back, using his spear's range to make up for his opponent's reach. Bear hunting had made for good practice. (No Wounds)
Jormun reverses his grip on the spear and feints high, towards the slit in his opponent's great helm with the butt, forcing Duncan to raise his shield. As Dunk notices it is not the end of the weapon he needs to concern himself but before he can drop his guard back down, Jormun drives the spearpoint clean through his foot, into the wood below. (Duncan takes a Medium Wound for -10)
As Duncan howls in pain and Jormun struggles to yank his spear, the lunk brings the hilt of his sword down on the top of his head, causing the huntsman to see stars and feel slick blood mat his hair. (Jormun takes a Light wound for -5)
Jormun yanks his spear free and jabs it towards Duncan's face, trying to widen the gap again. The spear glances off the greathelm. (Duncan ignores the Light Wound due to plate)
As Duncan advances again, Jormun drops his shield, sidesteps a lunge from the knight, and shoves his spear forward with all his might. He finds the weak point where his bolt had earlier pierced the breastplate, the spear finding the opening. Jormun shoved it clean through the knight like spearing a wild boar, pushing until he heard the tip clink against the back of the plate, before yanking it out covered in viscera. (+1 Spear for Jormun. Dunk takes a Heavy Wound for -25)
Dunk shifts from size to side, woozy from blood loss and numerous wounds. Jormun doesn't press the advantage, regaining the space between them, waiting for the wounded beast to die or lash out. (No Wound)
Dunk chose the latter, charging forward in an attempt to take Jormun over the bridge and drown him in the waters below. It was at this point that Happy dove through the sky towards his face. The falcon didn't actually connect, but as Dunk's attention was diverted and he glanced up at the bird, it gave Jormun a brief window of opportunity. The huntsman's spearpoint struck and retracted lighting fast, finding the gap under Dunk's greathelm and piercing his throat. The giant man gurgled as he drowned in his own blood, momentum carrying him forward over the side of the bridge as Jormun sidestepped him. So it was that Ser Duncan the Tall was born in Flea Bottom and died face down in a shallow stream in the Riverlands. (Dunk Dies. +1 Spear to Jormun. Jormun gains an additional +2 Spear for defeating an opponent of equal skill in a duel, for a total of +4 spear and +3 crossbow for the entire duel. The Blackforts regain control of Armistead's Crossing, +5 Influence, and +1 Disposition Level with Lord Vance. I am honestly shocked at this outcome.)
Lord Alyn Smallwood and Ser Petyr Piper look just as shocked by this outcome.
