(Curse of Harrenhal Flip: Tails)
If movies teach us anything, it's that you should never leave a bound captive unguarded. As they deposit the corpse, they hear a scream within the house by the young girl and catch a glimpse of the wounded half-dressed Smallwood knight sprinting out of the home towards the tavern.
"We're under attack!" he bellowed. "The bastards murdered Thomas!"

Willem shouted a number of things unbecoming of a "true" knight before sprinting after the captive as quickly as he could in his wounded state. As he did he attempted to gauge his chances of catching the man and whether he had yet been heard by those at the tavern.

Considering the tavern is four houses away and the man is wounded, Willem judges that he may be able to catch him in time, though it is not likely.

Willem drew his blade and ran after the rapist as if the stranger himself was at his back.

(Agility 40. Failed)
It is not fast enough, the yelling knight making it to the tavern with Willem hot on his tail. It made for quite the awkward moment as those having a terse discussion at the tavern noted the two winded bleeding knights.

Willem tried to sheathe his blade as innocuously as was possible. He didn't even look in the direction of Edmure, lest he die of mortification.

Meanwhile, Jared had reached Edmure.
"Ser, we need your orders," he said. "Is it to be a fight?"

The Smallwood knight in charge looked from the Benny Hill sketch of Willem chasing one of his bleeding half naked men, to the septon that interrupted in the middle of a parley to ask Edmure if they were attacking or not, before returning his gaze to Edmure with his mouth agape in disbelief. He wordlessly communicated that he had no idea what sort of insane shit show the Castellan was running here, and this was coming from a man currently commanding a group currently composed mainly of drunkards and rapists.

Edmure rolled his eyes, fighting to keep down the mounting fury that was rising within him. He wondered how a bound prisoner had somehow managed to escape. There has been plenty of time to make sure that both the prisoner's arms and legs has been bound, not to mention the gag that had surely been placed in his mouth. But the prisoner appeared to be both walking and talking. Amazing!
While he felt a sudden urge to lash out at anyone nearby and damn the consequences, he realised at the same time it would serve no-one if he lost his temper.
He decided to make the best of what was rapidly becoming an intolerable situation.
"No, Septon Jared, I do not desire to fight." he replied coldly to the Septon. He looked equally coldly at the knight. "If that is possible. But neither will I leave without an suitable settlement between the two of us, Ser. The Lord of Harrenhal will need to be placated in some manner. He does not take kindly to the illegal theft of one of his villages and the resultant starvation of a number of his people during the winter."

"See there you go again calling it illegal, when territory annexed during war is fully within the realm of legality," the knight replied, leaning against the tavern door, crossbowmen in the windows now quite prepared if this continued to go as well as things had so far. "If Lord Vance did not adequately prepare his winter stores for this eventuality, I fail to see how it is the concern of my lord."
"What you should be concerned with," he added, as some of his men helped the wounded Smallwood knight inside to get patched up. "Is that Lord Piper will not take kindly to the murder of one of his knights by trespassers on his territory, if Ser Thomas is truly dead. However, I am not authorized to make such negotiations. Should I send word to Lord Smallwood or will we be standing here all evening glaring at one another?"

"This village is Lord Vance's." replied Edmure firmly. "Do not think that what I have here are the only forces I have present. I can bring them up at any time. The mill and the bridge are already ours and you may be able to defend yourself in the tavern but you will not continue to control the village. Do not throw away your life and those of your men, Ser. Leave this village peaceably with all your men and return to Lord Smallwood. Tell him I am then willing to talk with him personally - as well as with Lord Vance - to work out a peaceful resolution to this problem. Here in this village if he sees fit."

(Failed by 3 points.)
The knight seemed to consider that for a moment, weighing the risk.
"See, but it's cold out there and quite warm in here. We have a fire going, some hot mulled wine, ale, and women. I think I'll stay where I am," he replied, flexing the fingers of one of his gauntlets. "Besides, by killing one of Lord Piper's knights, you've made this a far more dire problem. So the options as I see it, are you allow me to send a rider to Lord Smallwood so the two of you can hash this out or we both sit here until the Stranger takes us."

"You think we cannot light fires out here or use the houses here for shelter?" replied Edmure.
"The small-folk here seem quite pleased to see us. I suspect they are tired of hosting drunkards and rapists. I'm content to wait here. We control the village, the bridge, the mill. You have the tavern, but you are surrounded. I can bring the rest of my men up and call for more men from the surrounding areas, before Lord Smallwood will be aware that there is a problem. From there I have a number of options to remove you - by force if necessary. If you attempt to attack us, you have to get past my men and then my other force at the bridge. Any that get past us that are still alive, will need to find their own way back to Smallwood lands, maybe injured and pursued by men or this villages small-folk or both. Either way I have the village. Lord Smallwood may attempt to take it back but it will cost him lives and it will cost him money."
He looked towards the bridge.
"There is a better way, Ser. One that could avoid such unpleasantness. I urge you again to return to Lord Smallwood with all your men - unharmed. Lord Smallwood and myself can then hopefully resolve this problem."

(OOC: Don't think there is another roll, but I'll post it anyway. Edmure is obviously still trying to be persuasive.)

(Yeah, you already failed the roll bud. No second chances, unless you throw another social roll in between. As you don't have any other social skills, that's not an option.)
"Believe I already told you that's not going to happen," the knight replied, with a dismissive wave of his hand. "Peasants are fickle. They'll cheer you the one day and curse the next, usually when tax day comes. You call all the men you want, we'll be staying right here. One of our scouts comes by and sees this, you'll see a more heavy handed and less reasonable response than you're getting from me. You want to start a war, when I offer you the generous offer of a parley with someone with authority, that is on you. This is about more than lives and money at this point. You've seen to that."

"And what guarantees do I have that there won't be a heavy handed, less reasonable response anyway, once Lord Smallwood knows we have re-occupied our village?" asked Edmure. He eyed the knight.
"We are willing to talk but it needs to be conducted on an equal footing."
