Belric laughed, its origin buried deep within his gut. "I could kill you now, and no one would be the wiser. You resigned remember? You did it quite publicly, and sealed it with a note. My men would burry you and never tell a soul. You would simply disappear, and no one would shed a tear." The malice in his voice was real, his heart racing from the thrill of the fight. He truly reveled in it, always running head on into a battle.

"And you call me a coward." spat Edmure, his voice full of derision, as his hand reached out to grab Belric's shoulder. "I told Violet I wouldn't leave without seeing her first, so she will be the first to suspect if I simply disappear. And she knows I'm here. I resigned as Castellan. That's different to leaving, although I expect you can't tell the difference."
His fury was such that he was filled with reckless abandon. "I'm not afraid of death. You want to kill me Belric? Face me on the field with a sword in your hand. If you're man enough."

Belric smirked at Edmure, "I'm not going to kill you, brother. I only wanted to know what kind of man you are." He patted Edmure on the face, patronizing him as if he were just a small child.

That seemed to drive Edmure to even further fury, if that was possible. "Fuck you." he snarled, taking another swing at Belric.

Belric deftly stepped back from the swing and viciously kicked his younger brother in his wounded side again, exacerbating the fractured ribs. Edmure nearly blacked out from the pain as bone fragments scraped his lungs and he coughed a glob of blood on the floor, each breath causing blinding pain.
(Edmure takes a heavy wound for -35, now -65. Reminder that anything over -70 will likely result in a permanent maiming.)

"Finish it Belric." gasped Edmure his teeth gritted from hatred and pain.

"Finish it Belric!" He said, mimicking Edmure's voice, while he waved his hands and feigned fear. "Do not make a fool of yourself, brother. I already told you, I'm not going to kill you."

"You should." said Edmure, his teeth, still gritted from pain. Every breath was agony. Still standing, despite the punishment he had taken he swayed on his feet.

"Quit living these self-righteous fantasies. You are not a martyr." Belric pointed his finger in Edmure's face. "You are a selfish little cunt, with no regard for your family. It's no wonder you are plagued by disobedience."

Edmure's hot fury changed to an ice-cold realisation that matters had changed between them forever. He would never regard Belric in the same light again. After a pause he raised his eyes to stare at his brother defiantly.
"So banish me. Because one thing is sure, brother." He spat out the last word with as much venom and derisiveness as he could.
"After this, I will not lift a finger on your behalf again. No matter what you do."

"So be it," replied Belric, his tone turning somber. "If you refuse to offer your hand willingly, I will take it by force."
"Guards!" Belric yelled to the men standing outside his door. "Arrest my brother for the charges of insolence and attempted assault on his Lord." He made sure he was looking in his brother's eyes when he finished his orders. "Send for the Maester, and have him bring his surgical tools."

Edmure blanched. However if Belric wanted him to beg for mercy, he would not. It was Belric that would have to live with his reputation - not him. His elder brother would be regarded by many as little better than the mad Lady Lothson.
"And what will that achieve?" he replied. "My submission? My grovelling? You can take both my hands, my feet and my head, before I'll grovel to you."
He swallowed, but the injustice of it, made him swell with anger, mixed in with his innate stubbornness. "You all say I'm a coward. We'll see who's truly the coward. Do it in public, if you have the guts. Let them all see your so-called justice."

Two guards rushed in and grabbed the former castellan by either arm, a third rushing to fetch Percival.

Maester Percival arrived after almost an hour. He did not rush to his Lord's side. He bowed deeply to Belric and looked at Edmure with a small smirk. "Did you run out of furniture my lord?"

Edmure, who of course had not returned to his chambers since his standing down as Castellan, had no idea what the Maester was talking about. The young knight was dizzy with pain after being held for an hour, during which time he spoke not a word to Belric. He gritted his teeth to draw out the words through the pain of his broken ribs and as the guards held on to him.
"No idea of what you are gabbling on about. Don't bother explaining it. I don't care." he finally gasped out in reply to Percival.
