Character History:
Alyn Red Hands was the third son of Ser Eustace Dell, a Riverlands knightly house holding minor lands from Lord Jaime Chamber, himself a bannerman of Lord Medgar Tully. Called to the siege of Riverrun, the longest and bloodiest siege of the Blackfyre/Targaryen war, Eustace and his three eldest sons Joffrey, Bryan and Alyn took part in the defence of Riverrun. When House Bracken in the Riverlands declared for Daemon Blackfyre, Lord Medgar Tully resolved to assist his loyal bannerman Lord Blackwood and sent Ser Eustace and his sons as part of a sallying force out of the fortress.
Ambushed by the Brackens, Ser Eustace and his son Bryan were killed. Joffrey taken prisoner and Alyn left for dead. After taking many months to recover from his injuries sustained in the ambush, Alyn returned, only to find that his home has been burnt to the ground, his mother, sisters and remaining brothers gone to places unknown and his sweetheart and betrothed Ellen Branstone about to marry Ser Karyl, younger brother of Lord Donnel Wayfarer, a bannerman of Lord Bracken. After confronting the couple, a fight ensued with Alyn killing Karyl and accidentally stabbing Ellen as she tried to intervene. Even then, Alyn might have got away with the deaths, had not he been seen holding an unconscious Ellen, his hands stained red with her blood. Alyn fled the scene and despite the hue and cry that was raised to capture him, managed to escape, - a price now on his head and a new epithet of ‘Redhands’ added to his name and reputation.
Alyn went into hiding and due to the disruption of the war and a gift for disguise was easily able to evade capture. Over the next three years he wandered the Riverlands - often posing as a minstrel. With a vendetta against the Brackens, he carried out a number of assassinations. Amid a number of minor murders against soldiers and other servants wearing Bracken livery or livery of Bracken bannermen, Alyn notably killed Ser Wyman Lychester, brother of Lord Wilbert Lychester of Medway and Ser Tywin Blanetree nephew of the Lord of High Heart. Both were found with their throats expertly slit and a red hands imprint on their corpses. However it was the failure of a brazen attempt to kill Lord Harys Bracken while he was hunting that saw Alyn finally go to ground, joining the gang of Ser Lucas Inchfield in order for extra protection. Whether that hardened the resolve of Lord Wilbert Wilchester to find and stamp out the bandit gang was unclear, but Ser Lucas was captured and hanged, leaving the gang leaderless.
Physical Description:
Crimes of Note:
• Murdered Ser Karyl Wayfarer
• Murdered Ellen Branstone his former betrothed (although Alyn would claim that it was accidental)
• Murdered Ser Wyman Lychester
• Murdered Ser Tywin Blantree
• Attempted to, but failed to assassinate Lord Harys Bracken
• Murdered two Medway guardsmen and a hunter tracker of the Lychesters of Medway
Tool of the Trade:
The scion of a knightly house, Alyn still recalls his father's lessons in armored combat and should he acquire chainmail or plate, he will receive no penalty for wearing it. Until then, his sole memento remains a fine stallion raised by his eldest brother Joffrey. When mounted on the beast, Alyn gains an additional +10 to fighting rolls against opponents on foot, for a total of +25.
Bounty:
High Lordship of Riverrun: 50 Gold Dragons (Dead or Alive)
High Lordship of South Stone: 600 Gold Dragons and a Knighthood
Due to the severity of his crimes, Alyn has been pronounced of caput lupinum (wolf's head, as in literally hunted like a wolf). His is declared outside the protection of the law within the entirety of the Riverlands and anyone is authorized to capture or kill him on sight regardless of his proximity to the jurisdiction in which his crimes occurred.
