There are many professional fences and information brokers in the Riverlands, but the most successful by far are the Ferrymen. Well organized, the Ferrymen have connections among bandits, hedge knights, reputable bandits, disreputable nobles, sea captains, and more. It is a testament to their competence in intrigue that while the identity of their leader remains a mystery, he or she is still trusted as a business partner in the most illicit affairs.
The Red Eels are the largest criminal band in the Riverlands, as well the most frightful. Each member is said to swear allegiance to a wildling sorcerer named Skinner Jon, and is voluntarily flayed as a sign of their commitment to the heathen's war on the local nobles. At present, they have begun to target the fledgling house of Blackfort. Before his demise, Longinch warned the gang about wandering too close to cursed Harrenhal.
The Midnight Riders, so called by locals for their habit of only traveling at night, are a mysterious band of armored warriors recently sighted in the Riverlands. Innkeepers claim they must be a sellsword company of some sort, but no merchant company employs such a well-trained, well-armored cadre and the Midnight Riders feast in no lord's hearth.
The Bastards of the Harpy are a Ghiscari organization specializing in slavery, smuggling, and occasionally piracy. They have no regard for the Old Ways or the New, and are said to dally with far crueler gods. They are often seen in ports, where they buy and sell items one cannot acquire legally under the Iron Throne.
