Character History:
We didn't come from much, me and my brother Jonos. My father was a Baker in a poor neighborhood in Stone Hedge, we never starved but that didn't mean life was easy. We made a good team, back in the day. We made a good team, the two of us, he was the brains, I was the brawn. Since we were kids we had agreed on something: that we'd do anything to give out parents a comfortable life. When we both reached manhood we decided it was time that we started working for the accomplishment of our goal. We grabbed some coin we had stashed through the years and used it to buy some crude weapons and old rusty pieces of armor. We bade our parents farewell and left town guarding a small caravan going North. We lived that life for years, both giving up on delights of the flesh as much as we could, just so we could save all the money possible.
After two decades on the road, we finally managed to acquire enough coin to make our own mercantile investment. Jonos was great with numbers, he assured me that this would pay out the risk. We called some friends from the days on the road and left out. It was indeed a very successful venture and we repeated the process over and over. Jonos oversaw the numbers and I took care of the men. It was a great time, in just a couple years we had already managed to buy our parents a new shop in a better part of town. In five years time, we had six separate caravans and three farms of our own. By that time I had decided to hang my Warhammer on the wall, and settle down to build a new life with my new, much younger than myself, wife, Serena. We tried for years, but it wasn't until I was much older (around 45 namedays) that we managed to conceive a child.
Life was great until I decided to make some, badly times investments. An old friend approached me with a proposal that I thought would pay out, I had been away from the business for a while but for some reason, I thought I could do this without Jonos. What I fool I was. War broke out soon after, and I lost everything had invested in that venture. The debts started piling up, and whatever was the income that came from my venture with Jonos wasn't being enough to cover what I owned. I sold my farm and my shops and moved back to my parents' old house in Stone Hedge. At that point, I had not had word from Jonos for years, apart from the share of the revenue that a guard came bring me every moon. I was too proud, I would not go to him to beg for money.
We survived the following years, living without all the comforts that we once had, we plowed through. Until, my young flows, Alys caught a chill, or at least that's what we thought it was in the beginning. Once again I saw the debts piling up and the apothecary recommended more and more medicines and herbs that got ever costlier. To worsen the situation, it was at that time that Jonos’ henchmen stopped coming. I had no way to pay my debts, I was already old and no one would take me under their employ. I had to swallow my pride and go see my brother.
I asked around town and discovered that he was living not far away, in the richer neighborhood near the gates of Stone Hedge. In my now dirty ragged clothes, I approached him. At first, he did not recognize me but when he did, I saw it in his eyes, not pity, hatred. To this day, I do not what I have done, for a brother to harbor so much hatred for his own blood. At first, I begged him to allow me to work on his caravan, I still had my old Warhammer and mail stashed away, I still could fight and I only needed enough money to pay for my dear Alys’ medicine. He would not take me, he wouldn't even look me on my face. So I got angry and started shouting in the middle of the square, I, a dirty poor man, was foolish enough to threaten him in the middle of the square. His guards grabbed me, and although I fought back, they were too many. They dragged me away, but not without the bastard spitting on my face first.
Two weeks later I learned that Jonos' was found lying on a ditch with his fingers broken and his throat slit. The bastard had probably incurred his own debts with some much more dangerous people. Of course, I knew what that meant for me, I had to leave before the guards came inquiring after me. I kissed Serena goodbye, vowing to return with the money for our little girl. I took my equipment and my dogs, Bartholomeo and Priscilla, and once again, after all those years, I hit the road.
At first, I had no intention of doing banditry but when you've got nothing and hunger starts attacking, you see that there aren't many other options. I hated what I was doing, so I only robbed enough for me to survive and to stash away for my daughter, who I fear might have passed away already. This whole year that I was on the road, I never killed anyone unnecessarily, that was my vow. And I have mourned deeply every single death that has been caused by my hand.
