Character History: He was the youngest of the sons born to Thomas Blackfort and younger brother to Ser Bruce Blackfort, who would go on to take the position as head of the house. With so many children, it was made plain to Richard that unless he set out on his own path, the family would either be forced to send him to the septon or maesters. Desiring neither of those choices, it would be on the path of a tourney knight that Richard would walk, carving out a name for himself in the numerous tournies of lesser lords, and maybe to have the chance to be invited to the Grand Tournament, held by the king. So it was that Richard from a early age paid the most rapt attention to the skills of knights, even if his education was mostly on paying attention to his brother being taught, and on riding one of the few horses they had any chance he could get. After the death of his father, Richard begged Bruce for the chance to leave the Blackfort, and to squire for a knight so that he could one day earn his spurs. His brother gave him the chance, giving him to a Ser Brekken, a travelling knight who was a friend of the families and a travelling hedge knight.
So it was that Richard took to the road, and it can be said that he never looked back. He reveled in travel and wandering the riverlands with Brekken, and even if the man wasn't the most skilled jouster, he was still more of a knight than others. He held to honor, chilvary, and the vows that he had sworn in a sorry little forgotten sept. It would be in that same sept, in the forests near Acorn Hill, that Richard would later stand his lonely vigil, with only the wind and candles to keep him company. Richard learned most from the tournaments he attended with Brekken, the man always seeking to find a master and to finally stop his wandering. When it finally happened at Raventree Hall, Brekken also took that moment to confer knighthood upon Richard.
Since then, Richard has travelled the Riverlands, making a small name for himself as a Hedge Knight with a quick sword, and a even quicker tongue. Richard has fought in over 30 duels over honor, winning most of them handily, as no one really expected the hedge knight to be of any real skill. Self-taught, Richard became a more than competent swordsman and jouster, and when he would return to Lord Harroways town, he would always find time to help his nephews and nieces with horsemanship. His nephews Edmure and Belric both squired under him, and while the boys were certainly far stronger than he, he always despaired over their lack of interest in jousting. He married Sally, a commoner who stole his heart and was the only one who could keep him in one place for longer than a year, and made him swear off the liquor as long as she lived. She gave him two sons before passing away of the flux. He does not speak of her anymore. There is blackness there.
When the Blackfyre rebellion began, Richard returned to his family, taking up arms for the Blackfyres with his brothers and nephews for the black dragon. He earned little renown in the initial two years, but with the battle of redgrass field his star became ascendant. While his nephew met Bloodraven on Wheeping Ridge, Richard would heed Daemons orders for a countercharge against the red dragon reinforcements of Baelor Breakspear, and would be right beside Daemon in the clash that followed. It was his lance that pierced the Breakspear, and saved Daemons life in the process. Before that day none had heard of the name "Blackfort", but on that bloody field one rose as a new knight of the king and another as Lord of Harrenhall. He was not kingsguard yet, but after that day he followed Daemon into every battle the man entered. When the redtusk died, Richard expected but almost dreaded the call to duty that might be placed upon his shoulders. No more to wander, no more the road. But the call came, and Richard would not deny his king. He now wears the white.
Reputation: A travelling knight, Richard had little impact on westeros before his nephew strode up that hill at the Battle of Redgrass. Now he is known as the newest knight of the Kingsguard, slayer of Baelor Breakspear, and wielder of Dark Sister.
Boon:
Dark Sister-While a valued Targaryen/Blackfyre heirloom, in honor of Richard's service and Belric's slaying of its last owner, the newest Knight of the Kingsguard has been allowed the honor of wielding the famed Valyrian Steel longsword until his death, at which point it will revert back to the Crown. +10 to Sword Rolls and +5 to Agility Rolls.
Curse:
Burden of the Paladin-An honorable knight, Richard cannot tell a lie and if he attempts deception of any kind it will be painfully embarrassingly evident. In addition, if Richard carries out any action that the admins feel violates the knightly vows or oath of the the kingsguard, he will be wracked with guilt and suffer a -10 to all fighting rolls until he carries out a vigil of penance.
