Born the first daughter of Ser Bruce Blackfort and his wife Diana, Dacey never showed any interest in helping her mother with the menial tasks around their household, much preferring to tag along with her older brothers instead. Her father had initially attempted to teach her to read, but for some reason, letters and numbers never stuck with her as well as they did her other siblings. The lessons grew too time-consuming and eventually, Bruce was forced to turn his attention to training his heir. Happy about being left to her own devices for the most part, Dacey spent her earlier childhood playing on the streets of Lord Harroway's Town with her commoner friends and frolicking in the nearby woods with a makeshift bow whenever she had the chance to sneak out.
A portion of her time was spent observing the sparring guards, and at the age of 8, she talked her brother Belric into training her. Ser Bruce was fine with it as long as it didn't interfere with Belric's own training, but soon discovered that his daughter was an incredibly quick learner in the training yard, even if she'd been somewhat slow with the letters. What she lacked in force, she easily made up for in speed and dexterity. As her slight build would have suggested, she was partial to dual blades even at a young age, finding that carrying a shield only made her clumsy.
Around the same time, she received her first real bow, albeit a shabby one, as a nameday present. Since the family lacked a proper tutor, Dacey was allowed to practice at the Rootes' range. Even though a master of arms was there occasionally, Dacey preferred to take her bow to the woods to practice alone, essentially teaching herself to shoot.
She was never offered a post in the Black Gate's guard - not that she ever really wanted one - but was made a part of Lord Roote's hunting party at the age of 13, allowing her to provide her family with slightly bigger portions of rabbit, fowl, and the occasional deer.
Ser Bruce forbade her from joining him and her brothers when the war broke out, reasoning that someone had to stay and hold down the fort, and that her invaluable hunting skills would help the rest of their family through the hardships that the war was surely going to bring. Then, Bruce was cut down by Pipers in battle, and Dacey, who'd always taken their house's words very seriously, joined her brothers in the war before she'd even turned 16. Though laughed out by a lot of the men at first, she quickly proved to be an excellent scout and a skilled soldier, whether dropping down countless loyalists with her bow from the sidelines or making quick work of them with her twin blades. She was at her brothers' side at the battle of Redgrass, and the ones after that.
Physical Description:
Fairly tall, lithe and toned from years of training, Dacey always maintains a near military-grade posture. She has steely grey-green eyes and naturally wavy brown hair that she usually keeps in some form of braid(s) to keep it from falling to her face, especially when hunting or warring. Her sharp jawline and high cheekbones could easily fool people into mistaking her for a highborn noble, if it weren't for her modest garbs and poor courtly manners. She has a habit of using black warpaint to intimidate her opponents in battles or duels, something she began doing when she first joined Lord Roote's army. Unlike her sisters, Dacey's accent resembles that of the commoners.
