"I think all families have need of great warriors," Violet replied. "Who else may protect them from danger. Though, of course, there are other skills besides swordplay that will become especially important now. I hope that you will find happiness when you know your new lord and his family better than you do now."

Percival closed his eyes , and rubbed his nose with two fingers. "There is a need for a hammer when you showing a horse, but if use a hammer to clean the silverware there is nothing but a disaster." He looked up and gave her another knowing smirk, "There is always more to know, but you can never know everything." Percival decided that perhaps he should stop trying to help this family just give up and drink himself slowly to death. He smiled suddenly.

"But surely seeking new knowledge is a noble goal," she suggested. "Particularly for a maester. And your knowoedge will be especially valuable to a family unused to castle life or the burdens of rulership."

Percival looked away so she could not see him roll his eyes. "I will do my best, but my lord has already made it quite clear what he thinks of my consul. There is a saying about pearls before swine." He shrugged against helplessly. Percival was shocked at how empty her pretty little head was. The more he met this family the more sure he became of their tragic fate.

She sighed, trying to hide her annoyance. "What a shame. But you have a duty and I think you owe it to yourself to do your duty to the best of your ability, even if you dislike the family."

Percival raised a single eyebrow questioning her words, "Did I ever imply that I was not going to do my duty?" Percival asked with a small smirk for her. "You seem very concerned about these Blackforts. What is your name my lady?" His tone was sardonic, and slightly playful. Percival often had to find ways to amuse himself.

She raised an eyebrow as sgehugged the book to her chest. "Let's abandon the game, shall we? We both know who the other is. My nane is Violet."

"Lady Violet... it is a pleasure to met you. Of what house?" Percival replied turning a curious look on the girl. "Wait... you are a Blackfort." He stepped back quickly as if startled. "My lady you must forgive me. I was only speaking the truth as I see it, I met no offense to your house." He shrugged helplessly, "I grew up in one of the great houses of Westeros, and now to be serving such a small and insignificant house, it is quite an adjustment."

Saesha had just come into earshot of their conversation, having been in the bowels of the library looking for a book on Aqueducts that she had not yet read.
"A small and insignificant house?" she asked, making herself known, coming round from a row of bookshelves, a large leather bound tome in her hands.

Percival did not turn at once, he frowned slightly, but restrained from saying anything until he saw who had spoken. When he saw it was the lady of the house he smirked in recognition. "Lady Saesha, what a surprise." Percival studied her again to see how she was coping with her sentence of life wed to an animal. "Those are my words. Do you disagree, my Lady?"

Saesha was the very picture of a woman getting on with things as best as she could.
"The first Dragonrider was a shepherd in a field," she said, "Now I know this is not exactly what you had in mind when you dedicated yourself to something, but it is what it is." she was not sure if she was talking to him, or herself.

"That is my hope, that this house is the sparks of a great flame." Percival replied and smirked at the other woman. His careful eyes studied the new Lady of the house as he continued, "Sparks though, are still sparks. And is would be dishonest to describe the house as otherwise." His fingers tapped his chain, "One of my duties is to speak truth to my Lord and Lady."

Violet looked from Percival to Saesha, who she had not yet had a chance to speak with.
"Maester, there is a difference between speaking the truth and saying that which ought not to be said. You owe your liege lord and his lady your courtesies as well as your service. Harsher truths might best be saved until your lord asks them of you, or until you know him better. But..." She paused. "That is for my brother and his lady wife to decide." She gave Saesha a small smile.

Saesha smiled back at Violet. "There is rarely any cause to be offensive, but as the Maester says, facts are facts." She looked to both of them, "being sycophantic will get us no where at the moment, so I invite both of you to say, in private of course, when you think any decision I make is incorrect, if you think I am wrong, because we have very little room with which we can make errors."
She did not want to upset the people she would be spending a lot of time with, so she allowed violet another smile and touched her shoulder, "But your understanding of how delicately you need to treat people does you credit." she looked like she had thought of something as her eyes flashed briefly, "You are coming back to Harrenhal with us, are you not? Lady Violet?" She was glad the maester had spoken her name so she could pretend she had known it.

"Yes. My sister Alice is to stay here, but Harrenhal will be my new home. I grew up in the shadow of the castle, but I've never stepped inside those walls. " Her smile widened. "We will all have to get used to it together. I hope you aren't too worried about being sent away from your family, Lady Saesha? I was, a little, when I was sent to the motherhouse at Bechester as a girl. But I made lots of friends there. I know you'll make friends at Harrenhal. We're not what you're used to, I know, but we'll learn how to act like we belong in Harrenhal. And I hope I may be your friend."
