Saesha looked round, she had almost completely forgot about Edmure, and by almost she meant, had entirely.
"Of course, I am deeply sorry for your loss," This was more guard's families she'd need to make house calls now, "Do please take some men with you also, in case there is still danger around."
She motioned for violet to follow her as she lead the way to the Maester, seeming in no hurry.

"I will gladly do so. Those men deserve a proper burial," Malcolm agreed, with another bow of his head, his tone turning somber. "But it is no sight for a noble lady."

Dacey thanked Saesha, though didn't seem awfully upset about the loss. Then again, she wasn't exactly known for displaying a whole lot of emotions. "Take care," she told Violet, and turned once more to Ser Malcolm. "I fought in the war," she said, tired of this noble lady crap she was now sometimes bestowed with. "Think I've seen some bad sights. Just a moment, if you will."
She moved away and had a guard fetch eight mounted guards and another one inform Jormun he was needed at the gate for an urgent expedition. Any available knights, such as Willem or Willis, were also welcome to join. Hoster? Mneeh.
"Did you manage to drive the bandits off, or did you kill them all?" she inquired, rejoining Ser Malcolm shortly. "What can you tell me about their numbers?"

Jormun arrives in short order, clad in chain armor and spear across his back. Apparently 'Dacey needs you, now' came with an understanding for the Master of Hunt. He eyes those gathered for a moment before nodding to Dacey. "Who's the pretty face?"

"There were two on her tail when I came upon her, a stroke of good fortune for her, thank the Crone's guidance," he answered. "I wounded one and the pair turned and fled, but cowardice is no surprise from a knights that have turned their backs on their oath. Don't know how many more there were, as by the time I'd seen to the lady, they'd fled."

"I see," said Dacey thoughtfully, picking up on the inconsistencies between this version and Violet's, but keeping a straight face for now.
"Ser Malcolm Browncloak," she told Jormun. "He's just returned Violet to us. Edmure and all the accompanying guards have... apparently been slain by bandits. As I understand it, Violet and Ser Malcolm here are the sole survivors." She paused for a short while to let that piece of information sink in. "We ought to retrieve their bodies, investigate a little. He was how he was, but the words of our house are clear."
She looked to Malcolm. "What of the bandits after Edmure and the guards?" she asked. "Did you see how they got to him?"

"Forgive me, but with your sister wounded and Harrenhal in sight, I didn't exactly stick around to check on the dead and dying," he answered, humbly. "I could barely tear her from her brother's corpse as it was, the way she clung to it. There was nothing to be done for him."

"You say the knights fled, and call it cowardice, but these same knights attacked an armed patrol headed for the Wall and attempted to kidnap a Lady. Strange that one knight would be the reason for them to break chase." Jormun frowns slightly, turning to his sister and nodding. "Best we find and return Edmure and the guards, for a proper burial."

"That would be for the best," she agreed, exchanging a look with him to stop him from raising other suspicions about the knight's inconsistensies just yet. Then, she inspected the guards. "If everyone is ready, we'd better be off. How far do you reckon is the site?" she asked the browncloak.

"An ambush takes little bravery," the knight replied, turning back to Dacey. "A half day's ride north on the Kingsroad, near the Red Ford. If we ride hard, we should make it before nightfall."
(Feel free to move to the northern road thread. Post the date.)

Willem had been training in the yard, and as such was late presenting himself, but reached the group before they made their way out on their ride.
"You requested my presence, my lady?" he called to Dacey as he approached, sweat on his brow.

"You requested my presence, my lady?" he called to Dacey as he approached, sweat on his brow. Dacey greeted him with a nod, already mounted and ready to go out with their small party. "There has been an incident," she said. "Edmure has been killed by bandits. We are off to retrieve the bodies of him and the six guards that were tasked with escorting him to the Wall." She paused, having sent Willem away once when he would definitely have been - in retrospect - far more useful than certain others in their party at the time. "We could use you," she said.

Willem blinked several times as he stood with his mouth slightly agape for a moment or two. Edmure was dead. It seemed to belie belief that the man had survived far worse and had now been dispatched by...what had Dacey said? Bandits? Only then did Willem realize what Dacey had said after that. Taking him to the wall? What in the world would that be for? Willem felt an anger that nobody, Edmure included, had seen fit to tell him he was going to take the black. Attempting to hide his anger, he did a far worse job at hiding his shock.
"Edmure was taking the black?" He asked, rather stupidly to nobody in particular.

"Belric sent him to the wall," she replied, her tone indicating she hadn't thouht highly of the idea. "For raising his hand against his lord, apparently."

Well that explained why Edmure had not told him of his departure, Willem thought grimly. While Edmure was vindicated for the unexpected departure by Dacey's account, the fact nobody had seen fit to inform him of what had occurred spoke to him of his actual importance in Harrenhal.
Having spoken too frankly in Dacey's presence in the past, Willem fought back the urge to comment that it did not seem a cowardly thing to do to strike one's lord. But that issue seemed rather petty now in the face of Edmure's death and the death of six others in the service of the Blackforts. Besides, Dacey's tone indicated she herself did not seem overjoyed by the decision, so he prudently held his tongue.
"That is disturbing news, my lady." He said instead, leaving his meaning vague as to whether he was speaking of Edmure's death, Belric's having ordered his own brother to take the black, the alleged fight between the brothers, or all of the events together.
