"Oh, how sad," Alice said, her lips set in a slight pout as she looked down. "Are you... are you sure?" She asked, slowly making her way around his desk so that she stood much closer to him. From here he would be able to smell her rose-scented perfume. "A powerful man such as you - I cannot help but wish to get to know you better." She maintained eye-contact and smiled brightly.

The rotund man seemed pleased that at least one member of the Blackfort family seemed to have some manners and respect for those with the king's ear. He returned her bright smile at the flattery, his eyes almost vanishing entirely in the folks of fat.

"Then you are a bright young woman," he commended, before turning his attention back to his ledgers. "Perhaps in a month or so, when I am not up to my ears in work."

"Ohhh, a whole month?" Alice asked him, giving another pout. "But that is far too long!" She leaned forward, her hand brushing up against his chest. "I even have a new dress I would wear for our dinner. You should see it - it ends just here..." She said, indicating on her legs that the dress was indeed very short.

His eyes bulged as she motioned to her leg, as if the thought of a dress so short was preposterous, if not scandalous. Then he seemed to recall he was speaking to a former barmaid and everything clicked into place in his mind.

"That is certainly a...tempting proposition," he mused, fidgeting a bit in his far too small seat. His predecessor had apparently been a much smaller man.

Alice have a small giggle at his reaction and she remained exactly where she was, almost daring the man to touch her. One hand resumed to her necklace and toyed with it again for a moment, her eyes locked onto his. "Well the, don't you think it would be rude to make a lady wait? I would so wish to show you that dress as soon as possible."

"Very well," he sighed, as if he were a generous lord doing her a great service, rather than a lecherous married cow. "When are you free?" he inquired, as if suddenly his very busy schedule was rather unimpotany.

Alice smiled delightedly. "Oh, how marvelous! I am always free, Lord Butterwell." She bit her lip slightly and finally took a step back. "Name the time and day and I shall come to your chambers for dinner."

He made a show of looking through a small leather-bound ledger, apparently his schedule. "I just happen to have an opening tomorrow evening," he declared, though he never actually glanced at the pages.

"Good," Alice responded with another smile. "Then I will come to your chambers tomorrow evening, in my new pink dress." She giggled softly again, a melodic sound and half turned. "Do you like jewels too, Lord Butterwell? I can wear a lot of them, if you like?"

Lord Ambrose seemed shocked she already had jewels to wear. It seemed the Blackforts were adapting to courtly life faster than he expected. Perhaps he had misjudged them, he considered, before shaking his head. First impressions were usually correct.

"Whatever you feel comfortable in," he answered her.

"Perfect," Alice responded, winking at the lord before pulling her coat shut again and sauntering from his chambers.
