The man nods and pulls another of his grimy papers out, of the calculations done in the hall. "On to the second thing then. Did some snooping, some work, and figured out we can do a big event in the main hall with no cost to us. There's leftover wood, and if we use the right amount of hearths, should be a good temperature. Would save money on heating for a event."

Jon gave a confused frown as he cautiously took the second paper. "You found... firewood?"

"More of just ran some numbers for what we have already" says the Mason easily "Would be able to heat the building and accommodate large amount of people in the hall of hundred hearths without any cost for the fires. Would save.... Bout 400 gold for next big event"

"That is good to hear." Jon said with relief, glad that a clean value could be tied to the mason's unexpected appraisal. "We can make good use of this."

"Figure you could throw a feast for the vassal lords with a negligible cost" says the man conversationally, switching to his council role "Might be good to be able to get them all together, swearing to Lord Belric and meeting em. Might be a point to raise when they get back in the council meeting."

He rubbed his chin in thought. "Expenses for the building projects made such a thing out of the question. But this offset might just help to cover the costs." Just now realizing the value of the words that he spoke, he folded the mason's paper delicately. "We've done good work here today, mason. I shall raise the matter with Lord Blackfort upon his return."

"That's good" he said, relaxing back in his chair now that the serious matters had been settled. Time to sate his curiousity, if it was permitted.
"I'll continue doing surveying work around the castle, when I'm able to. How has been the move here from wherever your family came from? Just elevated and all that, can't have been a easy change."

"The Blackfort's hail from Lord Harroway's Town, upriver of the Ruby Ford." Jon informed the man as he collected papers and began transcribing the mason's notes into more legible and official documents. "Though I myself have been living in Braavos for some time. The move was easy enough, the only thing I have to complain for now is the weather. All the stories you hear about this place and no one mentions the damn cold." He paused to discern a particularly wild scribble before continuing. "And tell me, how does a mason from Lannisport find himself at Harrenhal? I can't imagine they have a shortage of masonry that needs doing."

"Masons move where the work is" said Qhorin easily "normally, I'd tell you that I would work on your project, usually a upgrade to fortification or a new church, then accept payment and move on when done. Course, this place..." he looks round at the massive structure they were sitting within "Well, if I could ever finish getting this place going how it should, I'll be a hundred and two. So I'm likely here to stay."

"Well, you shan't want for work here. And you shall enjoy Lord Blackfort's patronage for as long as you can do so. You have a family, yes?"

"Yes" said the man, smiling a little bit. It looked almost like a scowl "Cursed with two daughters, and a loving wife. The Seven want me to suffer needlessly. Though, I don't know about Lord Blackforts patronage." he lowers his voice "I mean, I've heard about the maester. Worries me, not going to lie."
