"Harrenhal is cold," he said taking a swig of his drink, "In more ways than it simply being winter. We arrived to battered down gates and rebelling commoners, taking advantage of the civil war within the keep. Lady Lothson had been abducting and murdering peasant children to use as fodder for dark magic. A promise from Bloodraven to alleviate the barrenness of her womb had driven her mad. When one of the knights in her service, Ser Bruce Whent, discovered that she was feeding her men human flesh, he executed her in the Great Hall. Ser Bruce took half of the men, while his uncle Ser Simon, took the remaining half." He drank from his mug again, wincing as his nose remembered the smell of rot within the Hall of a Hundred Hearths.
"Lady Saesha and I found resolution in trial by combat, Ser Simon the victor." He tried to hide the bitterness in his voice. "After treating with the rebels, we were able to being the process of restoring Harrenhal. Since then it has been nothing but bandit raids and ghost stories. Whomever dreams of being a ruler knows not the nightmare it truly is."

Violet spoke up again at last.
"My brother is too modest, Lord Bracken. He and Lady Saesha are making great progress. I wondered if, perhaps, you might be good enough to tell us a little about Lord Tully's family. I don't even know the name of his wife, or their children, and I am so worried about letting Belric down. I would be more comfortable if I knew a little about the Tullys. I know you must surely be quite well acquainted with them, Lord Bracken. I bow to your wisdom and greater knowledge of the region."

"River Road was clear enough" one of Bracken's knights, presumably the captain of his guard, replied. "Always washed out around the bend of the Red Fork in heavy storms. Probably why the inn was built here, despite its lofty claims. As for their safety, path from here to Riverrun was clear as we saw it. If there's one thing Lords Bracken and Medgar have in common, it's that they both know where the sturdiest hanging trees grow. Anyone notorious or foolish enough to risk attacking a party as large as yours is swinging by now, least in these parts." "That is a comfort to know," she said, smiling at the guardsman, "The less trouble we get into on the way there and back the better. Tell me, from your position, how did you find riverrun, the people there, do they seem like they wish to put the past where it belongs?"

"After treating with the rebels, we were able to being the process of restoring Harrenhal. Since then it has been nothing but bandit raids and ghost stories. Whomever dreams of being a ruler knows not the nightmare it truly is." (Lord Harys loses 1 Disposition Level with Belric...TMI man...TMI) Lord Harys simply stared, making no reaction other than to scoff at Belric's mention of dark magic. He was a no nonsense sort and had taken Belric for the same, this benefit of the doubt being dashed to pieces as the Lord of Harrenhal went on...and on...and on....with his morbid and depressing tale. It was akin to asking someone how they were doing and expecting a "fine" or "good" in response, but instead being treated to your own personal hell as the other person rambles on about their awful day and life...but times a thousand. It did not make the matter any less awkward that Ser Simon Whent was standing right behind Belric and Saesha, arms folded across his armored chest as Belric discussed that the grim knight had engaged in a civil war with and then cut down his own nephew. So it was that the Lord of Stone Hedge simply stared in awkward silence at the Lord of Harrenhal, coming up with no way to fitting response. It seemed Lord Belric did not need Violet's help putting his foot in his mouth. Violet spoke up again at last. "My brother is too modest, Lord Bracken. He and Lady Saesha are making great progress. I wondered if, perhaps, you might be good enough to tell us a little about Lord Tully's family. Violet gains 1 Disposition Level with Lord Bracken) She could help him pull the foot out though, it seemed. Lord Harys had never been one for flattery, especially not when it was so obvious and ham-fisted, detesting it on most days, but he looked now to Violet as if she were his savior. Any change of topic from Lord Belric's awkward derailment was welcome. "Yes, I am sure they are," he replied, far less convinced now, but glad for the less gloomy topic. "Tully's wife is a Frey, his son more scholar than fighter, his daughter a great beauty, and his brother a ferocious warrior. He was not an easy man to raise your sword against, but he made a worthy foe." "That is a comfort to know," she said, smiling at the guardsman, "The less trouble we get into on the way there and back the better. Tell me, from your position, how did you find riverrun, the people there, do they seem like they wish to put the past where it belongs?" The knight smiled back. "I wont lie, spent most of the stay with my hand on my sword, but only because Tully's brother spent its entirety with his knuckles white around his own hilt. Besides him, the Lord Paramount seems willing enough to move forward. He said something to Lord Harys, that seemed fitting, that the Trident always moves forward never back, cutting through valley and mountain alike, that the lords that call its banks home must do the same."

It would appear that no matter what Belric did or said, people took it the wrong way. As if some asinine yet omnipotent force was just toying with him. Receiving no response from the Harys and seeing that his sister and his wife had it handle, Belric got up from the table. "Excuse me, Ser." he said to Lord Bracken. He then proceeded to get so drunk, even Hoster would have been impressed.

It was no less than the truth, but she would not have been so free with the truth, herself. After all, the events were deeply troubling. Lord Bracken's reaction showed just how terrible they had been. But she smiled at him as he answered her own query. She thought she had best tread carefully in the matter of Lord Tully's heir since many men might prefer their sons to be warriors than scholars. Lord Bracken seemed one such man, and likely Tully was as well. "I am afraid I don't know very much about what makes a man a worthy foe, precisely," she admitted. "But I shall bear that in mind when we arrive at Riverrun. Though of course I hope that we may all put the past behind us now the war is won." She paused, took a sip of her drink. "Lord Medgar's family sounds charming. I'm eager to meet them all. Perhaps you might share their names, my lord? I apologise for my ignorance. The septas who taught me did not include the genealogies of the great houses in the course of my studies and I have not yet had the opportunity to study the matter for myself."

Belric drank, and he drank, and he drank some more... He took a break from drinking, to eat an unhealthy amount of stew, before once again returning to his drink.
Belric's face split into a droopy eyed grin as he turned to Yoren, who had done well to stay by his Lord's side. "If I just started hittin' people... You'd have to too." He said, struggling not to slur his words. Raising his mug, Belric gave Yoren a look of drunken arrogance. "You know that, right?"

At an appropriate time Yseult moves close to Saesha and when she's a moment to quietly interrupt she asks 'Would M'Lady be wanting dinner?' And would tell her what the kitchen had said was on offer for food that night.

"His wife is Lady Alynna, his heir is Tristan, his daughter is Lysa, and his brother is Ser Toren," Bracken explained, holding back a glib remark that the woman should take that lack of education up with their new maester.

"I shall remember," Violet vowed. "I look forward to meeting them all. I was fortunate enough to meet your own son, briefly, in King's Landing but I would be surprised if he remembered me. My brother's wedding celebrations were rather large and very busy."

"He did not mention it, but I would not take it personally," Lord Harys remarked, with a shake of his head. "The Gods cursed that boy with a wandering eye and the attention span of a gnat."

Violet smiled politely. "I thought that might be something to do with it but I don't think ill of Ser Whalen for it, truly. I know that young men have many interests that are impossible for a lady to understand. Are you blessed with other children too, my lord?"

"No, my Elyanna only blessed me with the one," he said, shaking his head. "And I'm too old, too tired, and too cynical for a young new bride."

"Ser Whalen can give you more heirs, when the time is right, so it may not matter too much" she said. "I cannot comment on how cynical you are, my lord, but you do not look so tired, and mayhaps you are not so very old as you claim. after all, there are many older men in the Seven Kingdoms." Her eyes danced with mischief. "Perhaps a young bride would make you feel like a boy again."

Lord Harys gave a bark of laughter in surprise and amusement at that, short but genuine.
"Perhaps that is exactly what I am afraid of," he remarked, with a thin smile. "Boys don't survive long in this world."
