"Better for Jon to have his incident here than in front of Lord Smallwood's men." Willem replied, trying to make the best of the poor situation. "We have not spotted any sentries. Lord Vance believes they may all be in the tavern."

"We"ll take advantage of that in that case." replied Edmure. He glanced around at the number of men he had. There was Willem, Willas, Jared and eleven men as well as himself. Fifteen. He made a quick count of the men Lord Vance had with him.

Lord Vance had brought a dozen of his knights, each looking grim in their plate. Some likely had family in that village.

"Lord Vance. Secure the bridge and the nearby mill with your men. Both, from what I can see, appear to be undefended. Do not cross the river. If there are any of Smallwood's men inside the mill, I want them taken alive." said Edmure firmly.
"The rest of us will see who is at the tavern." He looked to both Willas and Willem. "This is a diplomatic mission so we have come to talk, but be prepared for anything. Smallwood's actions thus far don't make me well disposed to trust him. Or his men."

Ser Willem nodded in response to Ser Edmure's orders and moved with a faint limp over to his mount, which he swung himself on to. He left his sword sheathed but moved his shield from where it had been secured on the side of his horse to his left arm. He then waited for Ser Edmure to lead the way into the village.

Edmure slammed down the visor on his helm and signalled the others to move into the village towards the tavern. These were Lord Vance's lands and by extension Harrenhal's he reflected, as he rode. They had every right to be here.
"Stay alert. Shields up and in front." he commanded as they rode, his voice muffled through his closed helm.

Ser Willem closed his own visor, before riding after Ser Edmure near the front of the Blackfort group.

Jared rode a little behind Edmure, Willem and Willis, hand on his sword hilt as he geared himself up for possible danger. Hopefully nobody would attempt to harm a man of the gods, but some men had no respect for the gods.

Lord Vance offered Ser Edmure a nod, seeming to respect him a sliver more now that he had decided to handle the matter personally, before lowering his visor and following the orders, riding off to secure the mill and crossing.
As they made for the tavern, they passed a house with a middle aged couple in front of it. The woman was sitting on the ground crying and the man was pounding on the door which was barred from the inside, wailing himself, though his voice was hoarse and there was blood streaming from his broken nose.

It took Willem little time to comprehend what was going on once he saw the couple in distress outside their home. "Ser Edmure!" He called as loudly as he could in the hopes of being heard through his visor and over the horses. "May I assist them?"

Jared stood tall in his saddle. "I'll help too, if you like," he offered Willem. He dismounted . He looked around and listened to see if he could figure out why the couple was barred from the house.

Other than the wailing and yelling as the older man pounded on the door, there was little more clarification if the implication was not already clear.

Willem cursed as the combination of his armour and the noise that the group of riders was creating stopped his question from reaching Edmure's ears. Hearing the Septon's offer of assistance, he peeled away from the main group of riders gesturing for Jared to follow him. As he neared the house he kept his sword sheathed so that the couple would appreciate his intent was to assist them.
Having been in a position of helplessness in his past, nothing infuriated him more than those who preyed on the defenceless. Disobeying orders or not, he was not about to let a rape occur on lands under Blackfort protection.

"Mayhaps you could speak to the man, and see about getting that door open, while I tend to his wife?" Jared suggested.
He crossed over to the weeping woman. "Seven blessings, goodwife. My name is Septon Jared. May I be of service to you? Ser Willem and I" he indicated the young knight "are here to help. Seven help me, I'll strike down any who harm godly folk."

Edmure pulled hard on the reins of his horse and signaled for the company to halt when he saw Willem and the Septon part from the group, wondering what they had observed. The one thing he didn't want was his company scattered around the village. Keeping his visor down and shield up, he rode over the short way to the house. The guardsmen followed, halting a short distance from the house.
"What's happening?" he asked, the obvious implication being that he wanted to know why they had disobeyed his orders and separated from the main group.
