“It’s miraculous the two of you made it out of there alive,” said Harlan as he turned his attention to Alyn. “And with Longinch’s armor no less, well done.” He grimaced as he looked over Alyn’s wounds. “It’s disheartening to me that the rest of the gang left the two of you behind in this conditions. Surely, Longinch dead or not, we’ve been together long enough to not abandone eachother when in need.” He began to patch up Alyn while he spoke. (Medicine: 32) Men may want Alyn Redhands dead, but clearly the gods loved him. Harlan works such wonders with his hands that Alyn can no longer feel the wound itself, and indeed finds himself very relaxed by the touch of the other man. Not even Barley, or any woman save perhaps his mother, has ever made him feel this comfortable with his own body. (Alyn's wound is completely healed. He also finds himself a little too comfortable with Harlan, who receives 4 points in Medical and may want to avoid rolling 100s in the future.)

Vex had arrived shortly after Harlan, leading her horse by the reins. She looked at Alyn and then Donal, and spat at the obvious lack of Bandy. "Shit," she said, giving Donal a look that possibly meant "should've been you". "Well, no time to waste now. We better clean house quick and get the fuck out," she said, looking at the farm itself and trying to get a better idea about its inhabitants, or rather, how many there were. (40 Observation) (Mild success. 1 point awarded.) Vex can make out the lights in the house and barn, as well as the three dogs sitting on the back porch and the lone horse tied up near the front porch.

He also finds himself a little too comfortable with Harlan, who receives 4 points in Medical and may want to avoid rolling 100s in the future.) Alyn had not had the touch of a woman for some time and was surprised how comforting Harlan's hands were as they explored his shoulder, neck and back. By the time Harlan had finished he was pain-free for the first time since the fight in the clearing. He supposed the man's deft touch had come from much experience in seducing and raping women. Maybe men too for all he knew. Alyn didn't want to think much about that second one, no matter how good Harlan made him feel. When Harlan had finished tending his wound, Alyn thanked him, awkwardly dressing and arming himself quite rapidly. It was now dark and as such the willow tree would provide enough cover for the horses, an opinion he expressed to Donal. For him robbing the farmhouse wasn't that important, but he would assist if the others decided to go ahead with it. To Alyn's way of thinking anything that harmed the Brackens and their bannermen was to be supported.

Harlan knew how to please. He had kept the company of both men and women since he was just a small boy. Working for Filla had perfect his bedside manner in many ways. When Harlan finished with Alyn, he made sure to give him a playful pinch on the shoulder.
Despite their previous encounter, Harlan was happy to have Vex with them again. She was fierce, far more than he, and that was a trait worth appreciating. He admired her eagerness to raid the farm and run, even if he didn’t agree with it.
“You are right Vex, we need to move quickly,” he said, attempting to be tactful. “However, I am a sorry excuse for a warrior. I fear that the four of us would do a poor job against Old Bael’s three sons and those mutts, if we were to face them in an outright assault. Alyn may fair well enough, but I’ve only got a knife and no plate to hide behind.” He put his hand to his chin, acting as though he was just now coming up with his master plan. “We would have a better chance if we could get inside Bael’s home. That way we can isolate those dogs, and take on the sons one at a time.” He speculated further. “The old man is a greedy son of a bitch, with a keen eye for profit. Perhaps I can pose as a traveling merchants, the three of you my faithful guards, searching for a place to bed up for the night. If it works, and he invites us in, we’ll offer Longinch’s wine as thanks. Once I’ve poisoned it, only a few sips will put them out. When they are on the floor and unconscious, we slit their throats and run off with the loot before sunrise.”

Donal was going to reply to Alyn when Harlan spoke up.
"Wouldn't a merchant have goods of some kind?" Donal asked. "We don't have anything that'd make us look the part. Not to mention our fresh wounds..." An idea occurred to Donal. "Perhaps we could say bandits robbed us and ask for help from them?"

Not to mention our fresh wounds..." An idea occurred to Donal. "Perhaps we could say bandits robbed us and ask for help from them?" “Precisely,” responded Harlan, already falling into character. His voice became deeper, he stood up taller, and a general air of authority developed about him. “Our caravan was raided a few miles back by ravagers, you see. It is only because of you three that I am alive. Not only did we fend off the attackers, but we somehow managing to escape the carnage with these three wineskins, in hopes the prospective buyer will still make a deal.” A sly smile spread across his face. Harlan dove into his snatchel, withdrawing a set of expensive looking robes. He dawned the fine fabrics and ran his fingers through his hair. Surprisingly, with little effort, he transformed from a bandit into what looked like a man of means.

Donal looked on, impressed. "I believe it." He said. "And we could say we only have the three horses on account of the fight."

Vex considered the plan, looked at the farm again a few times, and at her beaten companions, doing the math. Dogs. She hated dogs. "Good plan," she told Harlan with a commending nod, usually not a fan of direct approach herself. "But it's not going to work. Look at us. Would you let us in and take our drink while sitting on a pile of stolen gold?" she paused to give them a moment to consider the thought. "'Sides, they've three mutts and we won't be able to see shit in the dark. We need more men for this job," she said, mounting up again. "Let's meet up with the others."

“That’s just what a woman would say,” Harlan retorted. “Go ahead, turn tail and run for all I care. There’s enough gold in there to settle us up for the rest of our lives, I don’t mind splitting it three ways instead of four.”
“Besides,” added Harlan, motioning to his expensive looking disguise with a flourish. “Entire crowds have fainted at my word, whitholding their breath as I face the Trials of the Seven; my face indistinguishable from that of Baelor the Blessed. I can play the part of a merchant well enough to get us through the front door.”
He turned to Alyn, “What about you Redhands. You’ve come by your gruesome title honestly, does an old man and his three sons terrify you the same way it terrifies Vex?”

Vex laughed at Harlan from atop her (high) horse. She looked at Donal's bandaged head and the red letters on Alyn's chest. "Good luck," she said, and smirked. "Or perhaps I'll wait in the woods until you manly men all kill each other, take the gold and your heads, hmm?" she offered.

"With one or two of these in my hands.....no." He looked down the words that had been painted on Longinch's cuirass. "The 'good and gintle' its says. By all reports, Bael and his sons are not the 'good and gintle'."

"I thought you had courage Vex." Donal commented. "You can't seriously be planning to run off like those other fools."
He nodded approvingly as Alyn affirmed his commitment to the job.

Harlan nodded to Alyn, inspired by his relentlessness. “It’s settled then, we leave the woman to hide in the dark while we go do the dirty work.” He made sure to flash Vex a dirty look, finding her cowardice repulsive.
“We should walk around the perimeter of the farm, and walk up to the property from the opposite side of town.” He made a move to venture fourth, but refrained for a moment. He met eyes with a Alyn and Donal, “Remember, let me try and sell our performance. We have to get through the door, and try to convince them to drink the wine. However, if we get found out before they hit the floor, we bleed them all.”

"I'll follow your lead." Donal promised, making to follow Harlan. He didn't even look at Vex as they walked away.

It is a short walk along the 'beach' before the bandit party spots Tim and Pete wading in the Red Fork towards them. Pete holds his beloved flail and inflammatory ingredients above his head, like a mother trying to keep her child from drowning. Tim's spear serves well in plotting a shallow course back to land.
