Daven turns toward Tim, "You sat back and let Pete be slaughtered. I wouldn't follow that decision making ability as a leader." He says softly not even bothering to look at the person who did the slaughtering.

Harlan tried not to laughed as the others scolded Tim, but he had trouble holding it back. "They have a point," he said, leaning over to give Tim a tap on the forehead. "You have to be all together up here to lead a group of ruffians as disorderly as us. You already saw what happened to Donal. He wasn't leader for more than an hours before I saw him leap off his horse and run head on into the thicket, right in front of the town guard. Stricken by madness, had to be... Strangest thing I've ever seen." He spoke somberly, in reverence to their lost friend. "No, I'm sorry Tim, I don't think I could follow you either."
"What about you Daven?" Harlan asked, wagging his finger at the man. "You able to make us rich, or get us fed, with an injury like that?"

Daven scoffs and spits to the side going back to massaging his wounded leg. "I don't give a pigeon's arse about getting rich, I worry about survival and getting fed. If you want velvet pillows to sleep on and clothing to wear I'm probably not the best bet. At this point living is good enough for me. As for my wound, it'll slow me down but it won't stop me. Not yet anyway." He says with a sly grin and patting his knee.

I don't just wan't to survive, scraping every meal together." His eyes got wide, and surprisingly enough, Harlan started to smile. "I want a life of luxury, one of indulgence. The kind of indulgences only massive amounts of gold can buy. To be waited on hand and foot, to drink myself to sleep on the finest wine, and most importantly..." his demeanor turned sour, "Have my pick of the whorehouse." "What about you, Alyn?" Harlan asked, turning to face the man he was addressing. "Do you just want to survive, or do you want to get rich?"

"Why not both." said Alyn, looking up briefly from his strumming of his lute. Hearing something slightly out of tune, he frowned slightly and reached over and turned one of the tuning pegs ever so slightly. He strummed again and clearly satisfied with the sound, looked up at Harlan wih clear, cold eyes and a slight smile.
"Tell me Harlan. What's the bounty on your head?"

"How's he to know that?" Vex interjected, looking at Alyn, and then to Donal's gear loaded up on his horse. "Not feeling like sharing with the rest of the group?" she asked pointedly.

"He may know. He may not know. But why don't we let Harlan answer my question?"
Alyn played a couple of notes on his lute before setting it down. "And why are you so interested in what I might or might not be doing? Ask Barley what she plans to do with Donal's horse."

"Why, keep it, I assume," said Vex with a shrug. "Not sure if you'd noticed, but she didn't have one before. The goal here is for everyone to have a horse, not for one of us to have three horses." She pulled the farmers' mare that no one had bizarrely enough claimed back at the farm towards the loot pile by a leash she'd tied on its reins earlier.

Alyn shrugged carelessly, unmoved by her display. He drew his knife and began using the point to scrape the dirt from underneath his fingernails. He glanced at Harlan as if waiting for his answer.

Vex studied Alyn for a few moments longer. "Fine, keep your shitty second chain," she said, and turned to address them all.
"I have a way to make us 600 gold," she announced.

Embarrassed and a little confused about the current situation - he was already wondering what had possessed him to think that he might be able to lead a group with as many strong characters as theirs - Tim turned to Vex as soon as she mentioned gold. Money was, after all, the fount of happiness, and would solve most all his problems. If he were a rich man he could do as he pleased. Drink the best wine every night, visit the whorehouse whenever he wanted and eat food fit for a lord. Yes, he wanted to be rich.
"How?" He asked.

Harlan buried his face into the palm of his hand, befuddled by Alyn's poor attempt at being witty. "Why not both? Because both wasn't an option, Alyn. The questions was do you want to sit in the woods, eating twigs and berries, barely surviving, or do you want to be rich? Those two things are exclusive from one another." Harlan shrugged at the question concerning his head, "How am I supposed to know? Not like I stuck around long enough to watch Lord Mooton write up my bounty." When Vex mentioned that magic number, Harlan perked up and listened intently.

Barley wasn’t bothered about the two guys measuring it. “Six hundred? How?”

"It's a job not unlike the last one," said Vex. "If a little higher in risk. If we're doing it, we're doing it my way, not charging in like a herd of sheep for slaughter."
She patted the mare's mane for a time, letting them digest this non-information. "Though Tim is right. We should have that vote first."

Alyn retorted. "What's the point of being rich if there's a price on your head at the same time? I'm stating the obvious, but gold or possessions won't do you any good if you're dead. You come out of hiding and rich or not, you'll be strung up like Inchfield was. I could have ten times the six hunded gold pieces we might get, but I'll still be hanged and my head mounted on a spike if I'm caught." His eyes narrowed as he studied Harlan, his knife now twirling between his fingers. "Tell me Harlan, what do you think my head is worth?"
