"Daven and I are both archers," Tim pointed out. "We'd be able to surprise 'em t'start with, and cut down the leader, like Daven says, but we'd need the fighters ter do their part while we the rest."

"Even the best archer can miss a shot. Two shots at an armored knight, three counting my own, does not fill me with confidence that he will be cut down, as you believe. How, pray tell, do you normally do your jobs if only two of you can shoot?" Richard asked, his initial impressions of the group's ineptitude becoming reconfirmed.

"Well this is the first I'm hearing about an armored knight on this job. Are there more then one of them? Even if so, putting a couple of arrows into him should be able to weaken him enough for our people to finish him off while we continue shooting." Daven suggests while still waiting for someone to tell him what the fucking job even is.

Tim thought Daven had a point. Then again, everyone except the two of them appeared to know something more about the task, and that meant he and his fellow archer were at a certain disadvantage during the discussion.
"Can't we send someone to spy on 'em?" He suggested. "That way we know for sure 'ow many, 'ow well armed they are an' everythin'."

"I very much doubt they shall welcome a complete stranger, and one who doesn't look a soldier no less, into their company freely considering what they are guarding." Richard said, resisting the urge to roll his eyes contemptuously.

Richard's lack of respect for the original members of the gang was beginning to grate on Tim, who snapped "I didn't meant we should speak to 'em. Only, watch them from as close as it's safe to get, and see what they do."

"And what do you propose we would gain by watching them? We would see them eating and sleeping and traveling. We know the route they are going to take, and we know the task they have been given. We also already know their number. Unless you have a particular interest in their shitting habits, your task gains us precious little and risks alerting them to the fact that something is amiss." Richard responded calmly, with a steely gaze and edge to his tone,.
It had been a long while since he had allowed anyone to raise their voice against him and get away without being taught a lesson in respect, but he had been giving a job and hurting Tim would only hurt their clearly poor chances of pulling it off further.

"Thank you, now would you care to enlighten me and Tim here about those details? Cause I have asked what the fuck this job even is twice now and you just sat there and bitched at us about being the only two archers in this little group." Daven tells the man, his tone remaining pleasant but with a slight edge of frustration.

"Your friends didn't tell you on the way here?" Richard asked, pointedly but with a hint of amusement. "Far be it from me to withhold information from associates. We are to rob Lord Lucamore Roote. Take his taxes on their trip to King's Landing. There's to be eight guardsmen, a driver, and a knight deeply dedicated to the cause. I know the type. He'll be dangerous. Men who don't quit when the cause seems lost usually are."

"Things have been stressful lately and if you didn't notice we spent most of the ride in silence." Daven feels the need to point out to the large man. "And thank you for informing me about the details of the job, now this conversation makes slight sense."

"Good archers are hard to come by." Richard said as he helped himself to some of the food uninvited, having spent several minutes watching the others eat it. "If you are what you claim to be, makes no sense to keep that from you."

Vex idly listened to their bickering as she further inspected the map. Then, she pocketed the coins, rolled up the map and rose. "Enough," she said, having made up her mind. "We'll pick a tavern on their route. Easy enough to estimate how far they get in a day. Barley and Daven will scout their location. The rest of us round up the tavern folk, lock them up in the cellar." She thought a while and shrugged. "Maybe kill them to be sure."
She moved over to Harlan and clapped her hand on his shoulder. "We've a tavern keeper right here. All they need to do is come inside and eat."

It was indeed easy enough to estimate how far the armed convoy would get in a day and Simon had conveniently labeled the map with local inns and taverns. Assuming they did not set camp and chose the comforts of civilization, the only spot to rest for the evening was labeled Minnie's Haberdashery Warren's Respite.

Tim scowled. He was not keen on the plan, but nor did he wish to contest the matter with Vex, particularly in front of everyone else. The group had already had too many problems with leadership. It would be best to let the lass have her chance at leadership and see if she, unlike everyone else since Longinch, could actually succeed.

Richard looked at Vex incredulously. "Don't you think it might occur to them how suspiciously empty the tavern is with nobody in it but a handful of armored and armed folk? Not to mention your plan makes your two archers near useless."
