Lucas sat himself down and patiently waited for his food, sipping on the ale he was brought in the meantime.
"Slavers don't know how to win games where you play proper an' fair." he told his captor. "Ain't in their nature."

"If you want to keep that drink, you'll keep a civil tongue in your head," Dicer warned, raising a hand as if to cuff him again. "That ale wont taste half so good with a mouth full of blood."

The bounty hunter dragged his charge back to the table he had left, surprised to see a newcomer had taken his spot. True to his word, he ordered Lucas a mug of ale and a plate of the roast pore. "You dice, lad?" he asked Tim, taking his seat once more, before motioning to Taero."Already took the foreigner for all he was worth, but maybe you'll have a bit more luck." "Ain't got no money," Tim said, truthfully. He'd already given his last coin to the singer. "Me mate 'as all th' money. I ain't good at dice, any'ow."

Lucas considered the knight. "Just pointin out the truth. Didn't know that didn't pass for civility with you."
Then, undeterred by Dicer's warning he looked over to Tim. "If he keeps all the money, he ain't your friend, friend."

"It don't bother me," Tim said, though it would certainly have bothered him if he hadn't been playing a specific role. "I ain't good at countin' coin. It makes me 'ead 'urt."

Lucas shrugged. "Then have him count your share in front of you. Then you take what is yours. Just common sense that."

"I s'pose." Tim shrugged. "Don't like carryin' coin. I get scared I'll be robbed."
He looked Lucas over. "What'd you do, to get put in chains?"

"Sounds to me like you're in danger of bein robbed by that friend of yours this way." Lucas replied. He took a swig of his beer before continuing, deciding he had better enjoy it now in case dicer didn't like his response to the question he had been asked. "Was lookin for the men who took my wife from me during the war. Some folk got in the way of my finding her. Wish they hadn't."

Harlan took her to bed, getting his money's worth while he waited for the intoxicants to take effect. He gave a good show of it, playing his part as the eager stonemason enthralled by the idea of bedding someone of her former stature.
"You really wer' a lady, I 'aven't ever been bedded like tha' before." Harlan lied, falling into the rickety tavern bed. He scrutinized her response.

Tim nodded.. "So this 'un caught yer...after?" He considered the two men for a moment. "Yer were a knight?"

"A knight?" Lucas laughed. "If only. Then might be someone might care 'bout the injustice done to me and my kin. Nah, I'm but a simple butcher."

"Didn't know knights were int'rested in the likes o' us. Was sure you must be somebody, t'be worth puttin' in chains instead o' bein' strung up right away." Yet he wondered how Lucas could laugh about his predicament. He wouldn't be laughing if he were the one in chains. "Yer must be worth a lot o' coin."

Man who brings me in don't need to work another day of his life I hear. This man here is right lucky too, I'm just a simple butcher. Not dangerous like some of the other bounties I've heard 'bout." Lucas responded, trying to play Tim against his current captor. Maybe they would wound each other, or kill each other, if he made it seem like it would be worth the man's while. He certainly had little to lose.

And I expect it will never happen again..." She began curling up and waving her client away. "Now off with you..." She had already lost track of whose room this was and was quickly dozing off.

Tim fought to control the interest stirring inside him. If he could find a way to get the knight out of the way, perhaps he and Harlan could take the butcher and claim his bounty for themselves. "I s'pose a butcher at least knows 'ow t'kill a man," he said. "I've seen some of the knives yer kind use, bloody wicked they look."
