Aegor grumbled a bit at the change of topic to superstitious nonsense. It was no secret that he was a skeptic. He and not taken the rumors about his half brother seriously, not those of Shiera Seastar. Daemon's interest was clearly not a topic he thought befitting a king, but he held his tongue.

Instead of responding directly, Daemon turned his head and called for Nyles to enter. "Just stand there and answer me this. Pretend I'm a foreign merchant asking about this strange land. Why should I care who Belric Blackfort is?" My bad, thought he was still talking to Belric. Nyles didn't really need to think too he's on this one. "Because Lord Belric slew Brynden Rivers in single combat at the Battle of Redfrass Field. Supposedly the man was a sorcerer."

Berlic listened to his little brother recant his deeds, wondering what Daemon's point was.

Daemon nodded, satisfied. "Take a seat, Nyles. We won't be long." He turned to Belric.
"Your scepticism amaze me, Belric. I won't dwell too much on the man Brynden Rivers was, because there are many things in this family and this castle that are better left to the imagination of minstrels. But the fact is, you've never been to the Free Cities nor seen past the Wall. You don't know what it is to be a Targaryen beyond the titles and politics. So I will simply say that you are going to encounter some very peculiar beliefs at Harrenhal. You are going to face notions that fly in the face of everything your maester will tell you. And you will have to decide what sort of world you wish to live in."
He finished his glass. "That's enough on that subject, I think, or Aegor may rethink being my Hand. Any questions or requests?"

"It is as you say my King, I have never seen the places you speak of. A farm knight sees little other than countryside. However, I trust your word and will show caution towards Harrenhal's superstitions. If we are to be excluded form the crown's finances though, I would request your support through knowledge. The Grand Maester had mentioned a large collection of books pertaining to the histories and legends of Harrenhal. I wish to take those with me, if only to help educate Saesha and our Maester on what may be waiting for us. Perhaps, somewhere in those pages, there is something valuable that has gone unnoticed."

"Of course. Take what you need. I know the premier rational authority is Maester Augustyn, but I believe Alford has a book by... I can't even pronounce the blasted name, but he'll know the one. Odd binding, with the kraken on the cover. Anything else?"

"I would ask for patience. And that you would treat the family I leave behind like they were your own. They will show you the same love, and serve you well." Belric looked to Nyles specifically.

The King is reading letters when Richard is free to talk to him. Beside him is a glass of water, cold pork, and a stack of reports, the contents of which really don't concern the Kingsguard. He looks up at his knight. "Yes, Ser Richard?"
Daemon had refused to offer any hint in public that they might have anything to discuss beyond the daily affairs of the Kingsguard.

"Sire, I desire permission to attend to some matters in the city. A suspected mastermind behind the debacle at the Great Sept of Baelor has come up, and I would be remiss in my diligence to not bring in this man to the Red Keep to ascertain his possible involvement. I would know if you would oppose that course of action." Richard asks, moving to stand before the king rather to the side as usual. Usually it was the King who directed the Kingsguard, but it would be easy enough to refuse him. Either way, he was content.

Daemon set down the paper he had been reading, and leaned back in his chair. "I have... Six kingdoms, roughly two million peasants, and about twenty thousand knights supposedly sworn to my cause. I also only have seven men in my Kingsguard. Only seven men I trust to guard my flesh and blood. Why should I make that six for the sake of some... Rabble rouser?"

Further, any red loyalists within the city would be of most use in any assaults upon you or your family, as seen at the sept. I would rather we strike at these men, instead of only defending. There are only seven of us, as you say, and swords should be used." (Persuasion 50)

(Success. 1 Point awarded.) Daemon pondered his decision carefully. "You have one day to attend to this. If this matter isn't settled, you will defer to the City Watch and forget about it altogether. Am I clear?"

"Yes, your grace." Richard says with a short bow "I am ever at your service."
