"Well met, Madame." Saesha said with a soft smile. "May I come inside?" she asked, looking beyond her at the entrayway into the small house.

If the woman looked like she was going to faint before, she was practically hyperventilating now, looking 20 years younger in her excitement.
"Yes! Of course, milady!" she said, before looking horrified. "I knew I should have swept today! Apologies for the mess milady. I might just die of shame."
"Who in the seven hells is at the door?" the old man bellowed, clearly annoyed at having been ignored, but when his wife stepped aside his eyes bulged in their sockets. He hurriedly hoisted himself up with his crutches with a grunt of pain, knowing enough not to be seated when the Lady of the Keep entered your home. "Apologies for the language, milady."

"Please there is no need to apologise, nor get up, I do not wish to inconvenience you." She had never had to do this before.
"Perhaps you would both like to sit... I also do not know if the children should be around to hear this..." she said trying to be delicate.

The peasants remain standing, looking confused. The hovel was just one room, with no privacy. There was only one child, a little girl clinging to her mother's skirts. The woman seemed hesitant to send her away, understandable considering what befell unsupervised children during the last lordship of Harrenhal.
"Willet and Walter haven't done anything wrong, has they?" the old woman inquired naively, though the old man's face became stoney, as if he knew exactly what was coming.

"No, nothing. Their service to us since we arrived has been commendable." Saesha assured her, her eyes glancing to the old man realising he knew why she was there, "which is why it causes me genuine sadness to have to inform you that during the course of doing their duty, they both lost their lives last night. My prayers and condolences are with you." She put a comforting hand over the woman's.

The woman looked as if she had been slapped in the face, finally opening her mouth to cry out, but no sound escaping her lips. She sank to her knees as if she were the one that needed the crutches, face contorted in that silent scream, tears welling in her eyes. Her husband let one of his crutches clatter to the floor to put a hand on her shoulder, leaning heavily on the other to keep his balance. At that touch, she began wailing, shrill, uncaring how she looked now before her esteemed company. The little girl, confused, hugged her mother, as if that would stop her from crying,
"How?" was all he asked, voice cracking with emotion, the face of a man who had seen war and horror, but had never expected it to come to his doorstep.

Saesha kept a compassionate look on her face as she was confronted with the families pain.
"Protecting the town from the bandits that have been plaguing it," she explained, keeping the details to a minimum unless asked, "their bravery will save the lives and livelihoods of all the residents here," she knew it was little consolation,

"They always were protective, too good for this world," the old an remarked, causing only more bawling from his mourning wife. "When I lost my leg fighting the reds, they kept us going, always sent half their coin home. When Lothston sent their knights for our daughter, they hid their sister, kept her safe. Couldn't have asked the gods for better sons, certainly didn't deserve them."

///////////////////////////////////////////
2nd day of the 3rd moon of the year.
Qhorin heads into the town he had become familiar with, hoping to start looking things over for any fortifications that could be done here. He'd also, as usual, be on the prowl for any decently strong men not working. He could offer Blackfort gold for work, and the docks and quarry needed more men as usual.

Edmure, fresh from his meeting with Ser Valarr, was riding slowly through the town up towards the castle, when he saw Qhorin. He hailed him and directed his horse to where the mason was waiting.

Edmure, fresh from his meeting with Ser Valarr, was riding slowly through the town up towards the castle, when he saw Qhorin. He hailed him and directed his horse to where the mason was waiting. Qhorin was surprised to see the castelan, but it made a certain sense. He bowed and said "Castellan. How may I serve?"

"No need to be so formal." said Edmure smiling. He dismounted, swinging his leg easily over the horse. "I'm not the Lord."
He clapped the mason on the shoulder getting straight down to business. "Ser Valaar the magistrate, informs me that certain parts of the walls need to be repaired. I've in turn informed him that we have not the stone to do so at the moment. Nevertheless I think we can in the meantime probably make certain repairs with the timber we have. That means we could replace rotting wood and the like to make it as ready as we can for the stone when it begins to be quarried. That will in turn increase security for the townspeople.'
He eyed the mason for his reaction. "What do you think? Can it be done with what we have?"

Mason frowned, running numbers in his head. "Unfortunately, at this point, we'd need at least some gold for men. People I have right now are at Quarry or Docks, and any scaffolding for the stone wouldn't provide any protection..." He turned his thought to a different tack though "however, yeah, might be able to make a rudimentary defense using the old walls if I took a look at em. Couldn't say at this point. If we head over to em I could tell you more."

Edmure didn't believe in procrastinating, so he merely accepted Qhorin's words with a nod.
"Improving the temporary defences is what we need Qhorin. Valarr tells me that certain sections of the walls have holes in them. Whether from falling masonry or rotting wood or both he didn't quite say, but let's take a look and see what can be done."

Assuming the duo (+guards) head to the old walls, Qhorin'll look over the walls for what could be done for the actual repairs, then on what it would take to set up temporary defenses like a fortified camp for the town. He tsked at the sight of the holes and rotting wood.
