"But Harrenhal is cursed," Violet insisted, quietly. She lifted a chain she wore around her neck to bring the key out from beneath the neckline of her dress. "This is the key. I keep it with me at all times. What of it?"

"I need it," she said, holding her hand out for it, smiling slightly.

Violet hesitated, not removing the necklace. "You can have it...if you show me what you need it for. I've worn the key for days now, if you've found the answer, I would like to see it too. Please, Saesha. I've been racking my brains over this for days."

"It sounds a lot like you are giving me an ultimatum," Saesha said, blinking like she was surprised, "When I have found out if it is indeed the key I am looking for, I may show you, depending on it's contents, or I may not. The important thing you need to understand here is, I am not asking you for this key. I am telling you to give it to me."

Violet sighed. "Saesha, I don't want to fight with you, but you are my goodsister, not my septa. Please, I want to see. I've not been able to help set the castle to rights, but this key is the one thing I found by myself."

"You are correct," she said with a thin smile, her patience being tested now and her eyes narrowing dangerously, "I am not your Septa I am the Lady of this castle. You do not sigh at me, when I tell you to jump you say how high. You give me that key or you will never, ever know what it opens, do I make myself clear? You want to help, then give me the key."

She contemplated refusal but it was not in Violet's nature to quarrel or to defy authority figures, even when she was not really sure that her brother's wife ought to be given her commands. Yet it was no easy thing for her to relinquish the key since she had grown quite accustomed to wearing it around her neck. She slipped it off with obvious regret and handed it to Saesha. If she had been bolder she might have dared a sarcastic quip but that was not her nature either.

"See, was that really worth all the fuss?" she asked, smiling more brightly now. People of Valyrian ancestry clearly were not accustomed to the word no, "If it is anything of interest, I promise I will let you see." she assured, almost as a reward for handing it over.

"But why can't I come with you to see it now?" Violet asked. "I won't tell anyone, I promise. It could be our secret, like true sisters."

"But we're not true sisters," she shrugged, "I barely know you, and as this exchange has proved you do not know me, or trust me. I once asked you to do something for me, and you failed." badly, "trust is something earned, Violet." she smiled again, "Don't worry," she tapped her hand, "I am sure it's nothing."

She tried to think of another argument but none sprang to mind. She realised, not for the first time, how alone she truly was at Harrenhal.
"I barely even know my own family," she said. "How can I trust you, when I don't even know which of my own blood I can trust."

"Oh I wasn't meaning you trusting me, that is almost a moot point. I meant me trusting you. But that seems like a problem you need to try and sort out soon. They're your family, why don't you try talking to them?" she offered, thinking this conversation was getting awkward now.
Should she hug her? Console her? Offer her friendship.
She was certainly not going to be emotionally manipulated into letting her come along.

"I try when I can but it's not the same, you know? Most of them were off at war while I was in the motherhouse. They formed bonds of comradeship that I never can. I've no experience of such things. Most all of my friends went off to be septas or wives, and I only had a couple when I returned to Harroway's Town."
She sighed and picked up her book. "Do you want the horrible truth, Saesha? I miss Harroway's Town. This castle is so...oppressive. And I know it's ungrateful, but I almost hate it. I feel no bigger than an ant, some days."

"why did you leave the motherhouse then? If your friends all had something to move on to. You could not have known this would have happened to your Brother." Saesha was not sympathetic to her reasoning.
"I imagine like anything, it just takes time to make adjustments. You will have to find some practical application for your skills... what are they?"

"I'm good at reading and writing, sewing, singing, dancing. Ladylike things." She smiled just a little. "I left the motherhouse only a year ago, because I knew I didn't want to take vows after all. I want to be married. And Belric was already making a name for himself by then, though I certainly didn't guess that he would be granted Harrenhal."
She paused and spoke earnestly. "It means I'll be able to get a husband of higher status than I could ever have dreamed of, and I am grateful for that. "
