"You should be careful. A high status husband is good for the house." she commented, "I did not get to choose my high status husband, and it is only by chance your brother and I seem to get along. It could just as easily have been the opposite. Being stuck for life with a person you hate sounds like a wretched life. But if Status is all you wish, I am sure I can oblige you there."

Violet thought for a moment. "I wouldn't want to be married to a man I disliked, not even if he were of the highest status. But I I'd like to be lady of some lord's castle. I could never have hope for so much when we lived in Harroway's Town. A sworn knight was the most I dared aspire to. But a lord, well, if he's the right lord, I think I can be happy."

Saesha almost felt sorry for her. Did she really think her happiness came into it at all. That was not how this works.
"It is good to have hopes. So long as they are realistic" she nodded, and patted her hand again. "I would say I would find something for you to do to help, but singing, sewing and dancing are not going to help rebuild Harrenhal by themselves. Perhaps you could go and try and improve our standing in the town by visiting some orphans... or some... what the the opposite of an orphan? Is there a word for when you lose your children?"

"Bereaved parents, I suppose." Violet reflected even as she spoke that she was herself an orphan. "I could visit, but I cannot bring back their children. Words are wind. I dream of it sometimes. I can only thank the Seven that the poor people never saw the dead, and the blood, like I did."

"Yes I am sure they are very grateful to not be you." Saesha replied dryly, "Words can be wind, but do not underestimate the wind. Wind can down a ship or uproot a great oak."

Violet nodded since she really didn't know what to say to that. "The girls at the motherhouse thought I had a way with words," she confessed. "I might be able to offer some comfort, but I am not at all sure that it will be enough. We're not the Lothstons, truly, but the people have no cause to love us yet."

"They have cause to be weary of nobility." she pointed out, "when all they have known is their wars and their cruelty. But do as you will. Good day Violet" Saesha said, having given all the advice she could with the little she had been given to work with. Even sculptors needed the clay to begin with.

"Good day," Violet said, very quietly. She stood and opened the door to let Saesha out.

3rd Moon, 19th day
Edmure was on his way to see Belric when he noticed the door to his youngest sister's chambers slightly ajar. Intrigued, and feeling he should see her to offer an explanation of his quarrel with the other members of his family, he pushed the door open.
"Violet!" he called. "Are you here?"

"Yes," she called back. "Edmure? Come in if you like. I'm not busy."

Edmure strode in. "I hope you are you feeling better now, sister." he said, getting directly to the point. "I feel I owe you an apology for the scene in the Hall. I had no intention of upsetting you so."

She looked at him with a sad little smile.
"It takes two to quarrel, Edmure. The fault was hardly yours alone. But thank you, anyway."
She looked him over rather worriedly.
"What happens now? I hate the thought of my brothers being at war with one another."

"I cannot accept such insults from both our bastard brother and the Maester." said Edmure. "Call it stiff-necked pride if you will, Violet but I meant what I said in the Hall. I have stepped down as Castellan."

"Oh!" She simply looked at him for a moment. "That's unfortunate, but you're right that you shouldn't have to put up with insubordination. I wonder that Belric allows it. He has more pride than you."
She sighed. "Have a seat, please. What will happen now, then? You'll have less authority now."

"It was Belric's lack of support in the Hall that made me realise I had no future as Castellan." said Edmure a note of bitterness creeping into his voice
He shrugged. "What will I do? Willem advises I ask for a command to hunt bandits. I'm not sure that Belric would agree to that. I had thought of leaving and returning home to Lord Harroway's Town. Perhaps Lord Roote might find a use for me. Maybe somewhere else. I am not unknown in the Riverlands."
