He hugged her back. "At least someone will."
He stepped back, looking at her with concern. "Are you sure, little sister? The road north can be dangerous. I would not have any harm come to you. Granted Belric would not want that either, but that would only be because he would lose his alliance with Lord Roote, rather than be concerned with your personal welfare as his youngest sister."

She winced, wondering if it might actually be true. But she forced herself to smile at Edmure.
"Fine, then. I'll go with you as far as Harroway's Town, and then neither you nor Belric need worry about my safety. I can visit my betrothed and I'm sure you'd like the opportunity to take a last look at our old home."
She sighed. "Life was simpler then, wasn't it?"

Edmure nodded. "It was simpler then. Belric wouldn't countenance my own return to Lord Harroway's Town, to take up our father's position now that he is Lord of Harrenhal. Said it would disgrace the family. So he sends me to The Wall instead."
His voice took on a mocking tone. "Makes sense."
He glanced at the guards. "I think we are to leave immediately Violet, before others learn of my disgrace. Otherwise there might be a crowd to see me off. After all, it's not everyday that one of the Great Lords of the realm sends his brother and heir to The Wall. So you'd best make your preparations, if you wish to go."

"I can be ready quickly," she vowed. "I won't need so much, just to go to Harroway's Town. Gods be good, you'll need to stop and buy warm clothing as soon as you can. The old tales say men die of the cold at the Wall. Meet me at the stables."

Edmure wondered if Belric knew of Violet's new travel plans, but in the end decided he didn't care. While it lasted, he would enjoy Violet thumbing her nose at Belric.
"The stables it is. Be careful Violet." he said, before nodding curtly at the guards that he was ready.
"My room and then the stables. Then we go." he told them, before stalking off in the direction of his chambers.

Violet hurriedly changed into a tunic and breeches suitable for travel, then packed a change of clothing, a nice dress that would be appropriate for visiting her betrothed. She added various other necessaries, including some coin and her dagger, then headed down to the stable.

//////////////// Afternoon of the 3rd Moon, 24th Day
Lady Saesha arrived at Violet's rooms and had a bath brought in, thinking she'd give the woman the privilege of a private soak, rather than subject her to the bathhouse. She wasn't a monster.
While they were filling the tub, she went to Violet's bags and turned them upside down so as not to root through the likely dirty garments to see if there was anything clean to wear in there.

Clean clothes, makeup, and various inconsequential sundries that Violet had packed for the journey come tumbling out of the bag during the nosy sister-in-law's search.
Oh, and a Valyrian Steel dagger.

Seasha picked up the dagger, clearly knowing from the markings on the metal that it was Valyrian Steel and frowned deeply. She examined the blade for any markings on it that were not just the telltale folds on the metal working.
Observation 53.

(+1 Observation)
The balance was perfect and the handle carved of dragonbone. She found the smith's mark on the blade, but as no one had forged a Valyrian Steel blade in centuries, it was of little use. There was dried blood in the blade's fuller and specks in the filigree of the handle as well.

Saesha committed all the details to memory then arranged everything back into the bag, with the blade at the bottom, leaving only one outfit out.
She left it on the bed and oversaw the drawing of a bath.

Violet arrived presently, absently noting the clothes lying on the bed, not immediately realising that they had been in her travel bag. She sat on the bed to wait for the bath to be ready, already anticipating the luxury of the warm water.
"Thank you," she murmured to Saesha. "You've been most kind."

"Yes I have," Saesha replied, "most kind, it must have been so awful for you, defenceless, with Edmure dying in your arms,"

"It was horrid," Violet said, with feeling, and then momentarily biting her lip to hold back the emotion that threatened to overwhelm her. She sat on the bed, almost absently. "He is with the gods now." She had told herself the same words many times since Edmure's death. Perhaps one day they would actually comfort her.

"And that's exactly as it happened?" She asked, sitting down next to her, "you are sure? I just need to be sure, and for me to be sure you need to be sure. There's nothing else you need to tell me?" She sounded uncharacterstically concerned herself now.
