Richard wipes his blades as he responds to Nyles "Wiuld be nice to take him alive, nephew. But likely not so." On hearing Jaspers statement, he presents a smile to the man with his helm up "if the boy is as brave as his father in these sort of things, I will admit I've missed having a squire. But for now, up the stairs. Ser Donnel, Nyles, it would be good for someone to stay with Jasper and guard the front door, to prevent escapes."

Nyles finds that a perfect job for an NPC.

Ser Donnel began collecting bows and arrows. "I'll do it. And someone needs to watch after Jasper." "Actually..." Added Ser Malkym. "I would prefer you put Jasper on a horse and send him to the Watchhouse on Butcher's Row. Tell them we need manpower. They'll be much less conflicted when they see the corpses in gold. Then you plant yourself here until they arrive or we come back down." Donnel nodded. "By your command, Ser Malkym."

Rivhard liked this, the men seemed capable. "The rest up the stairs then, hurry quick. Can't leave them time for more mischief." He waited by the stairs, keeping his eyes open for observers. (Observation 47)

(Success. Sort of.) Richard doesn't see any movement, but he is fairly confident he can find his way to the room where he saw movement earlier on the third floor. However, these are long hallways filled with old dark rooms.
Sebastian looked up while slowly ascending the stairs. "Remember when we thought we were going to have to fight our way into the Red Keep and then we were relieved they only looted the place before fleeing? It occurs to me we were a bit presumptuous to believe Maekar could fit all his followers on one raft. And those archers were trained. Not quite Raven's Teeth, but fine enough for any lord's company..."

Harlan kept looking up as well, and then at the long hallways once they reached them, ready for any sudden movement.
He was right behind Sebastian, though of course hadn't been in the city during the coup, so he let someone who knew better reply to that.

Nyles follows, keeping an eye behind them. Someone had to be rear security.

Richard will lead the way to the room then.
"If there are more pockets of soldiers like this on the city then..." Richard remarked "that could be a fair amount of trouble ready to happen."

"Maybe killing this lot will start drawing them out," the squire suggested. "Once they hear we are on their trail might make them make decisions in panic."

(Success and mild correction. I meant to type 'third floor' in response to Richard's last observation.)
The house is hardly dark. There are no torches, but the sun is out and several shutters have been destroyed by time and war. There are still colorful frescoes from House Hellebore's time that may have once been worth something, but now they look like blotted graffiti on the walls and ceiling. The house is designed to a Pentoshi style briefly popular during the reign of Jaeharys the Conciliator, but to their Western eyes, the design of the house looks strange and inhuman, the angles illogical and unnatural in a land where castles are still the hallmark of class.
Both Nyles and Harlan can hear the faint sound of something heavy pressing down on old boards somewhere nearby on the second floor. Though old houses creak constantly.

Nyles keeps the bulk of his attention to the rear but also shifts a bit to where the sounds came from. They had an impromptu plan and he intended to stick to it.

Not hearing the noise, Richard will continue on to the room he had seen on the third floor.

Harlan let the others pass to continue to the third floor, keeping his eyes fixed on the hallway so they couldn't be surprised from behind.

The creaking became a stampede after they passed the second floor. Three men in leather and another in chainmail stormed out of the dark hallway. The bald leader cried out some foreign gibberish just before a second group of four appeared from the third floor, all in leather. Daemon Blackfyre's defenders find themselves trapped on a stairway, as Targaryen men come from below and above.
One of them takes a first swing at Harlan from below, who deftly knocks it aside with his shield as Ser Malkym takes his place beside him. Ser Sebastian moves to face the enemy from above.
(There is room for three men to stand shoulder to shoulder on the stairs without impeding combat ability.)

Nyles grins under his helmet and attacks those from the second floor, reasoning the four on three fight should be ended fast enough for them to join his uncle in a second.
