///////////////////////////////////
Morning of the 3rd Moon, 25th Day
The sun had been up for only a few bells when Dacey and Jormun heard the sound of a large group of riders approaching their position on the road. At the head of the group was Willem and accompanying him were the 15 guardsmen Dacey had requested.

Dacey, who'd kept watch hidden in the treeline, stood as soon as she heard approaching hooves. (Presumably with Jormun,) she commanded everyone up as they'd let some of their guards get some rest a few hours into the night.
"You ride like the wind," she commended Willem with a nod, though from her, it sounded more like a statement rather than a compliment.
She got on her horse and waited for everyone to do the same before following the tracks to the east, presumably with Jormun.

Willem glad to see that Dacey had not gone off and gotten herself hurt while he was gone this time, actually smiled at her compliment. "I am passable." he commented, throat sounding dry. "I have seen faster riders than myself." As Dacey's men mounted their horses, Willem drank hastily from his waterskin, clearly having forgone breaks for much of his ride.
Despite feeling tired and sore from riding hard for many bells, Willem made no complaint as Dacey led the group out. He did however move to the back of the group so he could move slightly slower and give himself and his mount some rest, however slight it was.

Presumably with Dacey, Jormun rode at the front of the column, keeping close eyes on the tracks for any changes.

(I gave Dacey and Jormun each 2 survival rolls to keep on the trail. +3 Survival for Dacey. +1 Survival Jormun. Scouting doesn't apply here.)
3rd Moon, 26th Day
Between the pair of expert trackers, they follow the trail without trouble. After a few miles, the trail takes a southeastern turn, and by the afternoon of the next day they find themselves on the border between the Riverlands and the Crownlands. The trail continues east onto the Lands of Lord Darklyn, or more accurately those of his vassal Lord Byrch, out of their jurisdiction. Just like a real police story.

Jormun swears quietly, turning back towards the group. "Off of our lands. We can't avenge our guards and chase them any further."

Willem, who had by this point joined Dacey and Jormun at the front of the group shrugged. "Would Lord Byrch object to our ridding his lands of bandits if we sought his permission to do so?" Willem asked. "I would be surprised if he turned away our help."

"We can't turn back without trying," Dacey agreed. "Blood begets blood," she reminded Jormun.

"If we go out of our way to ask him, the bandits get further away. If we chase after the bandits, we risk the Lord's wrath. How do we proceed, then?" Jormun leaned back in his saddle, looking between his siblings. A shrug was his only weigh-in on the matter.

The answer was far more obvious to Willem, who having ridden silently for much of the journey now spoke directly to Jormun for the first time since Armistead's Crossing. "We are already days behind the bandits. It is not as if we are close on their tail. We ought to ask the Lord for his help."

Dacey looked from Jormun to Willem as she weighed their options. "We ought to clear this with Lord Byrch," she agreed reluctantly, as it was possibly better to be on the safer side than sent to the wall by Belric for instigating a border squabble, "though by the time we do, the bandits may have already moved on to the next lord's lands."
She thought a while, recalling that Willem and Lord Byrch had been on the same side in the war. "I would send you and a couple of men to treaty with Lord Byrch while the rest of us follow the bandits," she said, turning to her cousin.

Willem nodded. "Very well, my lady. I would advise you to proceed discretely however. Lord Byrch may not take kindly to our request should he learn we have proceeded without his approval."
Willem looked as if he had no more to say before a thought came to him. "What would you have us do once we have spoken with Lord Byrch? Will there be any way for us to find where you are?"

"Of course. If he so inquires, you may tell him we are waiting for his permission to engage the bandits," she said. "I will send a rider to the castle after a day or two to inform you of our whereabouts."

"Very well. Send with me no more men than you can spare, my lady." Willem replied. "They will be of little use if Lord Byrch takes offence with our presence."
