Jormun looks back to Malcolm and Dacey, frowning. "I should hope not. Shouldn't there be other bodies nearby? He must have been moved."
Jormun, through the power of deductive reasoning, now knows that.

Ser Malcolm merely motioned with his head towards the veritable cloud of carrion birds circling overhead. There would not be so many for just one corpse.

Ser Willem paid no mind to Jormunn's odd and detached comments. Having fought in the war, and having killed men by his own hand, he was not one to become emotional on seeing corpses. Yet it had been some time since anyone he might have called a friend had been killed, and Edmure had certainly been that.
Fighting down the bile that he felt working its way up his throat as he took in the gruesome sight of Edmure's body, he swung himself down from his mount and drawing his blade made his way toward the corpse, aiming to shoo away those birds who were still feeding from the dead man's flesh.

The large raven on his shoulder took flight, a shrill caw piercing the sir, before four crows sprang from the wounds in his chest and abdomen to join the dark cloud of raptors in the air.

Dacey hopped off her horse and approached her dead brother, the second one in a month.
She unfastened her cloak on her way over to cover him up, but first, took a closer look at his wounds and state of decay.
"Ser Malcolm, could you join us here, please?" she asked. "Just to go through everything."

Feeling disappointed that no bird had possessed the courage to remain so that he could have vented his frustrations upon it, Willem sheathed his sword. He stood by Edmure's corpse wordlessly, trying not to look at it while waiting for one of his companions to come help him move it.
Once Dacey approached, he stepped to the side so she could cover her brother's nakedness. He frowned as she hesitated to do so, instead asking Ser Malcolm to speak for reasons Willem could not fathom.

As Dacey was no medical expert, she found it impossible to tell the postmortem wounds from the premortem wounds. The body was ripe, but it had also been sitting outside in the afternoon and shat on my birds, so that didn't tell her much either.
A pair of guardsmen, waiting for Dacey to finish with her inspection so they could cover the corpse and load it onto one of the horses.
Ser Malcolm dismounted, brown cloak fluttering in the winter breeze, as he approached the corpse.
"I am sorry for your loss, my lady, but I have told you everything that I witnessed. I can only assume that after we departed, the brigands returned to loot the body. Cravens!"

Jormun efforts to track the hoofprints of the knights, ignoring the events transpiring by Edmure's body at the moment. Though he did not wish to see a Blackfort dead, the only grief he felt was that he had not been the one to kill him.

Dacey covered Edmure with her cloak and stepped away to let the guardsmen move him.
"I see. When did you say this happened, again?" she inquired.

(+2 Survival for Jormun)
The tracks head east, though the cloud of crows is a few hundred yards north.
"I didn't," was the knight's laconic reply, "Yesterday. Around this time actually."

She nodded. "Very well," she said, and started towards the crows in the north to observe and track stuff. Things.

Once Dacey was out of earshot, Willem turned to Ser Malcolm. "From what I gather, you attempted to save these men from the bandits, Ser?" Willem asked, making an effort to not sound as ungrateful as some of his companions had.

A short distance north they discover another body, also stripped, unrecognizable due to the massive hole in the middle of his face. From the shards of wood embedded in the wound, it was clearly done by a lance. Fifty yards more and they find another naked corpse, which one of the guards identifies as Sam, his belly likewise torn open by a lance and birds feasting on what little was left of his entrails. A hundred more yards and they find the reason for the murder of crows; the bodies of four guardsmen, including Brandon, as well as Edmure's dead horse. Once Dacey was out of earshot, Willem turned to Ser Malcolm. "From what I gather, you attempted to save these men from the bandits, Ser?" Willem asked, making an effort to not sound as ungrateful as some of his companions had. "It was already over by the time I arrived, before I could make such an attempt," the knight replied, sadly. "I was lucky enough to come upon the lady and did what I could, what any true knight should."

"There are many false knights in these times who have managed to survive the deaths of their betters in the war. Not all would have had the courage to intervene as you did. I apologise for the lack of gratitude Lady Dacey and that ass of a half-brother of hers have shown you. I have no doubt that Lord Belric will be far better disposed to a man who risked himself to rescue his sister from harm."

"It is no easy thing to be grateful for what you still have when confronted with all you have lost," the knight mused, swinging back up into the saddle. "I only wish I could be of more help."
