"Of course," he replied to Saesha, remaining agreeable.
There was something off about the way Violet was responding to Belric, and it was noticeable. He chalked it up to the fact that she was nervous about the coming wedding, misinterpreting the signs for petty female problems. Had he known the truth, Belric's world would have been turned upside down. However, from where he stood, Violet was a silly girl who'd never had to face reality.
He was surprised to hear her take his comment as a compliment, a gross misinterpretation. He valued confrontation and those able to face their problems when facing the edge of a sword. He wished Violet had more Blackfort in her, but was convinced she lacked the willpower.
"If comfort and happiness is all you want, then I see no reason you can't achieve both." Despite his disappointment, his response was genuine. If she truly desired a life of mediocrity, he would not chastise her for it.

Violet's smile was not forced, this time, and she started to relax.
"I hope I will," she said. "My husband is a lord, which is what I always dreamed of. If he makes me happy, and our future children, that's enough for me. I'll leave the ambition to you, brother. And the battles too. I'd look ridiculous in mail, I doubt I could bear the weight of it on my shoulders."
