"I imagine you have never seen a good war because one does not exist. Wars happily en when rational thinking fails, though it seems to fail quite frequently." She nodded, glancing to the platform as the contest began, "Harrenhal, I imagine, will never be finished, it will take years to complete everything, and by that time you'll be repairing the thing you started with." She understood it was not a serious suggestion, "it is more important to get a keep in order than gild Harrenhal, especially as we do not know how long this winter may last, once the port is completed, if our workers can aid in restoring Riverrun, I can see to it they are sent to bulster your own force?" She suggested, meaning it seemingly genuinely.

"I imagine there are many in your brother's court that would disagree with that sentiment, the Hand among them," Medgar remarked, watching the melee out of the corner of his eye. "Looking upon the keep, it stretches the imagination that such a construction feat was able completed in the first place, all a testament to one man's hubris."
"It is good that you are prudent, especially when so few are," he said with a knowing smile, similar in that regard, and similarly surrounded by more rash individuals. "I thank you for the offer, but the works are coming along adequately and patience saves gold."

"It's only considered Hubris because he burnt in it. If harrenhal stood perfectly today, we'd be praising Harren the Black on his great ambition and vision. Well, you would be." She offered, looking forward, still waiting for it to start. "There is the one thing to sitting up here... your bannerlords are soon to be cold and wet, which is inifinitely worse than cold and dry."
She turns her gaze to look back at Harrenhal then round to Tully, "I sometimes think it would be wiser to tear some of Harrenhal down. It is awfully big"

"That is assuming my line would have survived the remainder of House Hoare's reign," he replied, his tone suggesting he did not find that hypothetical likely. "Unlike many of the other kingdoms, the Riverlands have never resented the arrival of the dragons. Your ancestors allowed us to throw off the chains of Ironborn oppression." He managed a smile at her optimistic quip, sipping his hot mulled wine with some satisfaction.
"That is certainly not an idea I ever heard from one of your predecessors. But most of them had ambitions too big for their own good," Medgar remarked, considering her suggestion. "Tearing down some of the more dilapidated would provide cheap stone and timber to repair the rest. The trouble would be doing so in a way that does not compromise the defensive capabilities of the keep."

"Yes, that would be a challenge, but not undoable, I should think. It could conceivably make it stronger, if done correctly, less men could defend a smaller keep, and of course, it would not be small, even if you halved it in size." She commented, "I would rather thrive in a smaller more manageable Harrenhal than shrivel in an overly large ruin."
"Lady Piper was very enthusiastic about the Keep and it's being a good example of mainland Ironborn architecture, I hadn't not thought about it, but if I ever imagined a keep the Iron Born built it would be like this."

"You may need to keep those masons on hand, after all," he quipped, finding no fault with her logic. "It is always refreshing to see a noble that seeks to thrive within their limits rather than over-reach." It was clear from the pointed statement here that he was not just speaking of the keep.
"I see it more as what happens when you give a beggar a gold dragon. Nine times out of ten he will spend it all and be back on the streets in a week. The Ironborn came from a land without stone or timber, then found themselves in control of a great landmass with no shortage of either. Of course their first thought was to build a keep grander and more ambitious than any that came before."

Violet cheered proudly for her betrothed as he knocked two successive opponents into the water. She couldn't help laughing as the man who was about to become her husband divested her brother of his pride.

Willis trudged out of the icy water toward the stands, shivering but in good spirits. He called to Violet as he approached. "I doubt you want my opinion, Violet, but I approve the match! Anyone that can ring mine and Bel's bells like that can keep you plenty safe."

Violet laughed and waved at Willis. "I'm glad for your good opinion, cousin. Be sure to tell my lord Lucamore the same, when he's done fighting. Quick, dry yourself off and come sit with me for the rest. We can cheer my betrothed together."

Everyone hears Lord Goodbrook swearing as he dragged himself from the water. Indeed, there is no need to even type his precise remarks.
***
Aerys Frey simply laughed as he waded towards the septon to help him to his feet. "There will be a sermon about this moment, no doubt."
***
Ser Robert Goodbrook, in stark contrast to his father, is quite pleased. "I shall marry that woman if the Seven do love me!!"
***
Ser Alester Shoreham silently took his place by his father and brother, while a squire helped remove the wet plate from him.

Ser Petyr Piper had to actually be pulled out of the mud by attendants and dragged to the shore. It had all happened so fast. Later he was swear the Blackfort girl had an extra pair of arms.
***
Ser Torren Tully stormed off the field in a dark fury, but that seemed to be his natural state. The man likely ate his breakfast furiously as well.
***
Ser Whalen Bracken bowed to the crowd as they cheered his valiant defense against the prowess of Lord Mallister, taking off his helm and flashing a dazzling smile at a few young women in the crowd. It was unlikely he would spend a night alone for the remainder of this tourney.

Willis found a servant out of sight of the crowd and shed his waterlogged boots, armor, and underthings in favor of some simple wool garments. He made his way up into the stands to catch what little remained of the fight. "He's still in, eh? It'll be him and Willis in the end, I'd bet, sure as shit." He glanced at the ladies gathered around, trying to spot Arya Frey in passing. "Sorry, I mean to say I'm certain it'll happen."

Belric walked himself from the water, his armor draining like a flawed bucket. He withdrew his helm, revealing the unexpected smile of a beaten man. He shared a laugh with the other drenched knights, making a show of his dented shoulder. Lucamore had made such quick work of him that he was even able to catch sight of Torren's temper tantrum before he walked off. It was the little things in life.
He walked to the stands and stood below the balcony supporting Saesha and the Tully's. "My love, I find myself bathed and ready for tonight's feast." He laughed, giving her a comical bow. When he returned to posture, he nodded at Medgar, "Your brother is a fine swordsman, M'lord. I expect that could have gone either way." He nursed his jaw.

Aelison was soaked to the bone, she joined rest of her kin, waiting for the ridicule but she didn't care because they were all soaked to the bone.
She did give the young Bracken a stare, before leaving for the bathhouse. If the matchup hadn't have been so one sided, with his pretty armor and sword, she would've beaten him.

Arya Frey clearly sits beside her brother Orland, watching the show. Willis thinks he catches a smile on her face when their gazes meet, but it is an only an instant acknowledgement. Now she turns her gaze back to her cousin Aerys and the holy man.
"Aye. This land needs a good kick in the pants to get past the tavern door. Speaking of which, is drinking still a legal vice for you, or did they change that during the war?"
