“And thus, the reign of Dolan the Dunce has ended,” he joked to vex as they road off. “Had he kept his mouth shut, we could have walked right past those guards without incident. Should they come after us, let me do the talking. Bow or not, we can’t fight all of them.” Vex snorted. The bow an arrow would have been for Bandy's horse. "What was all that earlier, anyway? You all having a piss, making the kid bark orders?" she asked. She readjusted the reins and brought the horse to a slightly slower pace once they were in the clear. "Now... tell me about the papers," she said. "You act as if I had some choice in the matter," replied Harlan demonstratively. "The boy wanted to take charge. Let the Stranger decide who's worthy and who's not." He cocked his head curiously when Vex brought up Longinch's documents. "What papers?" he asked, feigning ignorance.

"Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck" Bandy kept muttering it under his breath as the guards were hot on their trail, and Judging by the ping on his armor, out for blood. Bandy looked at the situation, it was grim.
He looked to Donal and thought about if throwing him off to the guards would be enough? But alas, with so many on their tail they could simply split up and still have the advantage, not to mention Donal was driving.
Desperate times called for Desperate measures. Bandy looked behind himself and looked towards the guards. He reached down and grabbed the one handed axe from his belt.
He took aim at the horse leading the chase, and with a one handed throw tried to use all oHe saw the captain ride up however, releasing his one handed axe and going for his two handed one instead. He took a swing at the captain, aiming to knock him off his horse with one strike.
Two handed axe: 70 Strength: 60 Armor: 100
Ser Lionys Footly's plate cuirass - +5 saddle attack damage with two handed axe.

As the guards closed in on them, Donal shrunk down to reduce the target he was offering and continued to put his focus into driving the shared mount to an escape. Fighting the two men who had closed the distance between them would do little good if the remaining two caught up with them, so he continued to abuse the horse's flanks with his heels, ignoring whatever was going on behind him and hoping Bandy could either fend off the attacks or would be the target of them as the one swinging a weapon around.

As Bandy lifts his battle axe to strike at the guard captain, the guardsman behind him wings his short-sword, the blade cutting deep into the side of his neck. Blood coats his fine plate cuirass (and Donal's back) immediately.
(Wraith, you rolled a 6. Bandy takes a heavy wound for -30)
As Donal turned to see what was going on, another spurt of Bandy's blood splashes directly into his eyes. He instinctively drops the reins to wipe them, losing control of the already stubborn steed. The guard captain and his compatriot manage to keep pace as they swing at Bandy. A third manages to close the gap as well, taking up the rear with his spear leveled. The fourth manages to keep pace, but can't manage to get close enough to strike.
(Dinadan...you rolled a 1. The dice truly hate you both. The captain and two guardsmen will be able to attack next round. The fourth is still in pursuit.)

Alyn manages to escape notice, as the guards chase after Donal and Bandy, leaving the village huntsman behind. Alyn stayed where he was until the sound of pursuit had faded. Eventually leaving his position behind the tree, and making sure his horse was securely tied to another tree, he moved silently through the thick undergrowth towards where Longinch still hung in his armor. He could see the huntsman with the bow waiting nearby. From his hidden vantage point, Alyn looked carefully around to see if there were any other guardsmen or other people around, apart from the huntsman. Stealth: 58 Observation: 20

Alyn, despite his armor, continue to move silently through the brush. Other than the huntsman, he doesn't see anyone else armed near the hanging tree. However, a few travelers making their way down the road had stopped to gawk at the strung up knight.
(+2 Stealth. Wraith and Dinadan really could have used your luck.)

Donal felt blood spray all over his back and he had a pretty good idea whose it was. Nevertheless some compulsion obliged him to look to verify Bandy was in fact bleeding all over him, and was met by what seemed to be a geyser of blood spraying forth from Bandy into his eyes. Wiping the blood clear he temporarily lost control of the horse, and despite his best efforts to ignore the increasingly dire situation and dedicate his attention to grabbing the reins back and driving the horse free of the pursuers, when he next looked back another guard had caught up and the other seemed closer than before. Donal was certain he couldn't be the problem; maybe Bandy hadn't fed this horse properly. Or perhaps, this thought occurred to him second, an escape would be impossible while the two were both astride the horse. After a mere second of reflection Donal realized this must be the case. The two of them, in particular Bandy, were just too heavy for the horse to break free. Donal realized at this moment that short of some exceptional leadership on his part he and Bandy were going to die. But Donal was not prepared to die yet. He still had many noble families to punish for their transgressions, not the least of which being the Charltons. The thought of pushing Bandy off the horse and continuing to ride for freedom unencumbered flickered through his mind, but Donal was the leader of the gang, put in charge by Bandy and it would not do to abandon his loyal follower in such a dire moment. Instead, he would save them both. He pulled his legs up so he was riding in a crouch on the horse's shoulders, and before he could lose his balance, threw himself toward the nearest attacker screaming "Death to House Charlton!" in what must have seemed an insane manner as he did so. (Attempting to jump onto nearest pursuer's horse and wrestle with the rider for control)

Still maintaining his cover provided by the undergrowth, Alyn moved as close as he could to where the huntsman waited. In particular he tried to work his way behind the direction the huntsman faced. He hefted the short blades in his hands, ready to rush and strike in close quarters if he was detected.
Stealth: 60 Small blades: 70 (+5 in close quarters)

It most certainly seemed insane and borderline suicidal, but Donal miraculously stuck the landing, suddenly finding himself on the back of his pursuer's horse. For a moment the guard captain did not seem to understand what had just happened, doing a double take as he realized the bandit was now sitting behind him. The odd couple grapple, trying to throw one another off the steed. (+1 horsemanship. Contested strength rolls will occur in subsequent rounds.)
With their captain now busy fighting for control of his own horse, the two guardsmen continued to swing at bandy, one riding beside him with his bloodies longsword, and the other jabbing at him from behind with a spear. Despite his wound, he manages to fend off the blade shortsword and the spearpoint glances off his plate breastplate, but he is unable to land a blow on either. As he fights and the steed is momentarily without anyone holding the reins again, the fourth guardsman manages to catch up and close in on Bandy's other side. (No result in the combat. Three guardsmen will be able to attack Bandy next round.)

As he approaches the huntsman from behind, he steps on a dry twig, eliciting a loud crack. The man whirls around, startled to find himself face to face with an armored man with a knife out. He curses, dropping his bow and pulling a hunting knife from his belt.

Donal was not surprised in the slightest to find himself on the back of the guard captain's mount. That is what he had planned, and great leader that he was, that was what had followed.
"Die whoreson!" He cried, grabbing a hold of the guard captain and grappling with him. With his life on the line Donal was fighting with no holds barred and tried to bite at the man.

Seeing he had been discovered, Alyn leapt at the huntsman seeking to engage him in close quarters. In no mood for mercy, he determined to deal a killing blow swiftly and decisively at any weak point he could find, such as the throat.
- Small blades: 70 (+5 close quarters) = 75 - Leather armor

(+1 Small Blades) The reaction is immediate, those who had gathered to gawk at the hanging corpse screaming at the sudden bloodshed, having though their days of living in fear would end with the culmination of the war. Those with horses begin galloping towards the village while the rest simply run.

Bandy is surrounded now, trying to maintain control of his horse while fending off blows from three sides. As he blocks an overhand shortsword swing with the haft of his battleaxe, the guardman behind him buries his spear into his armpit where his armor is the weakest, driving it through the chainmail deep into his torso. (Bandy takes another Heavy Wound, for a -60 total)
