She tried not to stare at the burns, presuming they were simons doing, or another patrons and her eyes narrowed. She had to stay on target for now though.
Barley approached the squire, not paying him much visual attention, seeming to just intend to fall past, but as she did she pretended to trip over the young man’s foot, itching forward but keeping her footing.
“I’m so sorry, ser!” She said with a gasp at him, looking to see if she’d spilt any of his wine, though she knew she had not. “Begging your pardon.”

The squire was slow to react, as deep in his cups as he looked, not even seeming to notice the young woman had tripped until she began apologizing. Even then, he seemed far more pleased at being mistaken for a full fledged knight than he was annoyed at the interruption.
"No pardon necessary," he said, in an attempt to be gracious, which was somewhat undermined by his slurring of the last word. "No damage done," he added, though seemed to indicate he was speaking about his undisturbed wine rather than his uninjured foot or her person.

"oh, Ser," She said, "you're so gracious" She curtseyed to him, "I have wished all my life to meet a knight to brave and humble." she knew it was laid on thick, but the man was drunk and so she imagined it would come off well to him. "I am sure you have many tales of your bravery,"

"Truth be told, I'm not a knight yet," the lad admitted, though smiled broadly as Barley poured on the praise with a heavy hand. "But this time next week I'll have my spurs. Then a week after that," he paused to hiccup, "you'll be hearing songs of my deeds." He offered a bow an incline of his head in reply to his curtsy, though even that threatened to tip him ove.

“Well your manner is very knightly, so far as I know it.” Barley replied, “Getting your spurs in a week? How can you know? Do people not get knighted after some great deeds?” She asked, pushing her ale towards him subtly.

"Ser Oliver would tan my hide if it wasn't," he laughed, taking a big gulp of wine. "I'm not supposed to talk about it," he answered, before the drunk immediately began talking about, leaning in with what he thought was a conspiratorial whisper but was quite loud. "Secret mission for Lord Roote. Very important. Men have been knighted for much less."

"A secret mission?" Barley replied, looking over her shoulder as if checking for anyone who should not be listening. "you must be so brave to take on such a mission... but you should probably not tell a person like me," she said, and made herself look very sad, looking away from him and to the floor is shameful resignation. "I am happy for you."

"Just doing my duty," he said, with all the naivete of a young man who had yet to learn what it really meant to be a knight. The brutal strife of the last war had already faded in the minds of the youth, replaced by songs of glory, the next generation being prepared for the next inevitable slaughter for the Iron Throne. "Well you are welcome to share in my happiness if you wish," he motioned to his copious amounts of wine and one of the empty seats at his table.

"Id be honoured" Barley said, sidling over to him to sit close to his side and taking a cup of wine. "To knighthood" She said with a grin and held the cup up to his lips.

"To knighthood!" he echoed, taking a deep quaff of the wine as she held it to his lips, a bit of the red liquid dribbling down the corner of his mouth unnoticed. He took the liberty of pouring her a goblet as well from the pitcher, miraculously managing not to spill it. He seemed to have the good sense not to try to hold it up to her lips in his inebriated state. "So what brings a pretty place like you to a girl like this?" he inquired, clearly thinking he had nailed the line. It was also possible he was the first person in Westeros to think of it.

Barley shrugged her shoulders and smiled to show her bashful delight at being called pretty in a round about way, "just looking to make some friends" she admitted, taking a sip of the wine and thinking if she had any herbs that would knock the squire out. "I make a very good friend to the right people" She said with a low smile, moving a hand to his thigh.

The squire looked well on his way to knocking himself out.
"Well I'm a friendly sort," he said, before seeming to notice where her hand his moved. "My purse is a bit on the light side though at the moment," he admitted, drinking and whoring all day clearly having taken its toll.

“Oh... you thought I was a whore,” Barley replied, looking obviously uncomfortable now and removing her hand, “of course, why else would a girl like me come up to a man such as yourself...” she made herself look sad. “I just wanted to show a galant knight some appreciation.

The inebriated squire had the good sense to look abashed.
"Gods above, you've my apologies m'lady," he sputtered, trying to salvage the situation. "In a place like this you just don't tend to meet much else. Forgive my boorish behavior."

“You protect these lands from villains and bandits, there is nothing to forgive,” She said and shuffled closer again, so their legs were touching, “would you like to get out of here? Somewhere more private?”
