Though it had been some years since the woman was a young maid, Harlan's honeyed words certainly made her blush like one. Clearly she was more accustomed to lewd comments from licentious patrons.
"Well I've been here the longest, so if he's a regular, I'll know," she suggested helpfully.

"His name is Simon, I believe his cousin Augustyn and he are frequenters of your exuberant establishment." He motioned around to the tavern in genuine enjoyment. "If you could take us to him and bring my two friends and I an ale, I would be most obliged to reward you." Harlan winked, offering a small taste of what he promised.

Daven looks at Tim sideways before scratching the stubble on his chin. "After what happened to Longinch I think I'm gonna' avoid wenching for a time. Never know who's gonna put that noose around your neck, though I'm sure this Jenny of yours might still be here if you want to go have a tumble." "It weren't so long ago," Tim replied. "Might be I'll go see Jenny if I've time. I've been told I just look like any ole fella, anyhow. An' Jenny, bless 'er, don't know the 'alf o' it. She thinks I'm just some mercenary."

"Simon? The bloke that runs the place? You could have just said so," the serving wench replied, though seemed quite interested in whatever reward Harlan had in store for her. "He's in the back. Who do I tell him the handsome gent asking after him is?"

Harlan gave her hind end a hearty squeeze, "Why don't you just take us on back right now, no need for introductions. He's been expecting us."

“That sounds like a good way to find myself out on the street,” the woman replied, indignantly, cooling noticeably to Harlan’s advances. “I can tell him you’re here if you’ve got an appointment, but I’ll not parade you in on your word alone.”

"Well we'd never want you to lose favor with the boss," He said with another smile. Harlan leaned in, as if to tell her a secret, "Tell him we are with Ser Lucas Inchfield."

Augustyn, or Augie as nearly everyone called him, had been a sellsword and pirate for the first half of his life before investing his hardwon fortune into the Imperial Trident Shipping Company. He was not in fact the leader of the Ferrymen, as many supposed, but simply one of its most successful members. He still had the rough accent of a common Riverman, and aside from his ruby ring, he looked more like a very clean butcher than anything else. On the upper floor of the Lady's Dragon, Augustyn was eating a piece of mutton and drinking some cheap wine as he spoke to his three companions. "My cousin Simon will be here shortly. In the meantime, I will stress again the terms of our relationship. All three of you have accepted the protection and guidance of the Ferrymen in exchange for fulfilling this task. We had originally intended to employ a different group, but with the demise of their leader and the recent fucking idiocies of his successor, opportunity appears for you lot. As part of this new compact, understand that while we know every fucking sin on your souls and could turn you in for a pretty coin, the Ferrymen value their word. As long as you pay the toll, we'll get you across the river, aye? And if the thought hasn't already occurred to you, let me stress this kernel of wisdom. Don't chatter about your bounties. Consider yourselves reborn, like some heathen god. Your bounties are like the inner workings of the afterlife... They only matter if you plan on going there promptly. Is my fucking sermon clear, pilgrims?"

The last few months of pursuit after the infamous Alyn Redhands had brought Boros to Lord Harroway's town, before the trail grew cold and he found himself stuck in this place. Yet, this very morning he had heard the town crier's announcement and it filled him with hope that he was getting ever closer to his one way ticket back into his dear wife and daughter's embrace. He promised himself that this would be his last job, and as soon as he was done with this, he'd go back to tracking the bastard. But first, he had to earn enough money to feed himself and his pups.
Boros' paid attention to the Fence's monologue, but not without keeping an eye on the two strangers that would now on be his companions. Both youthful and grim looking, Boros' wasnt very fond of aligning himself with these types, but the last year had left him with no choice other than do so out of necessity.
"It is understood. And I am thanked for you 'hospitality.' " Boros' said gently, trying to pass both confort and confidence in his tone. "And beisdes the invaluable protection of the Ferrymen, how much coin are we talking for this task of yours, Master Augustine?"

Ser Richard didn't like receiving instructions from people not named Danelle Lothston or someone acting in her name, but he had survived long enough by knowing what fights not to pick. He needed to cross the river to have a chance of continuing his campaign of retribution, and if the man wanted to make listening to some stupid self-indulgent speech part of the payment, he'd listen to the speech.
Didn't mean he'd have to pretend to love it though. Richard had survived long enough he didn't need telling what to do and not do.
"Sounded pretty clear." he replied vaguely, without a smile, speaking after the old man did.

"Well we'd never want you to lose favor with the boss," He said with another smile. Harlan leaned in, as if to tell her a secret, "Tell him we are with Ser Lucas Inchfield." Any warmth the lass still held for Harlan vanishes in that instant, unsure whether to take his comraderie with a dead bandit as a morbid joke, a delusion, or a threat. Nonetheless, she went to the back, and returned moments later, eyes downcast and looking surprisingly uncomfortable for a woman accustomed to the lewd mouth of sailors. “He’ll see you in the back,” she said, in a docile tone, bordering on meek, as she motioned to the door to the back office at the back of the tavern. “Passed the kitchen and larder.”

Harlan didn't like the way she averted her eyes from him, it made his blood boil. He clenched his teeth and took a deep breath, trying to regain composure. He brought a hand up to the tavern wench's chin, pushing her head up so she had to meet his eyes. "There's no need to be scared, my rose petal. I'm not going to leave before I give you what you were promised." He nodded along in affirmation as he spoke.
Releasing the bar maiden from his grasp, he motioned for Vex and Barely to follow him into the kitchens and passed the larder.

Only my mother is allowed to call me Augustyn to my face. And Simon will have those details. In the meantime, relax. Try the mutton." He pointed to a large slab of meat on the table he had been slicing pieces off. "You don't want to guess the next time you'll ever get the opportunity to enjoy a properly cooked beast."

"Augie, it is then." Boros smiled in a friendly manner and reached for a slice of mutton. "It's been... A while since I enjoyed such a fine plate of meat."
His mouth had been watering since the very moment that the dish had entered the room and filled his nostrils with that smell. Boros was a large man, and needed lots of sustenance to keep himself going, yet having fallen in hard times in the last few years, he had lost a good part of his renowned build. Had he been alone in this journey the damage might have been reduced, but with his pups it was a whole different story. He had gotten used to going to bed with an empty stomach, having given up his meal in order to feed Bart and Pri.
"Have ever had the opportunity of visiting the Inn of the Fat Fool, friend?" Boros said kindly, trying to strike up a conversation. "Best mutton I've ever had during my days on the road. Unfortunately, it got burned down by some loon some years ago."

Vex stood nearby as Harlan was working his sketchy magic on the barmaid, observing the crowd and listening in on bits of conversation. As she followed Harlan, a bout of laughter escaped from under her hood. "Fuck's sake," she muttered under her breath. "We'd all be dead, had we brought him."
