"Ravensbane. O' course."
For a moment, Tim lost himself in his recollections of the Battle of Redgrass Field. He thought he'd glimpsed the Ravensbane at some point during the battle, but, having fought on the other side, it wasn't something he cared to dwell upon, nor was he ready to incorporate a local hero like the Ravensbane into his tales. When he did speak of the battle, outside of the bandit group, he tended to claim he had fought for the black dragon, not the red.
"Wish I'd gone to the tourney," he said with genuine regret. "Bet it were somethin' worth seein'. Did yer see the bride?"

Simon was one of the few Ferrymen that had literally been a ferryman before entering the less than legitimate line of work, having spent his youth taking travelers and goods from one side of the Trident to the other for a handful of coppers. After discovering that those handful of coppers could become handfuls of gold when one wasn't choosey about the cargo or personnel they were ferrying back and forth, his fortune was made. Now he owned half the gambling dens in Lord Harroway's Town. It was well known the man had the ear of Lord Lucamore himself, acting as the city's representative for the merchants guild, an irony the less than legitimate businessman took great pleasure in. Following the barmaid's directions Harlan, Vex, and Barley find themselves in the back office of the Lady's Dragon. Barley notes that the kitchen has an exit that leads out to a back alley. They are ushered in by two burley men with cudgels who could barely fit through the door frame. Simon sat at an oak desk, measuring gold pieces on a scale. Occasionally he would pick one up, set it aside, remove a small bottle of acid from his desk, and place a single drop on the coin to test its authenticity. During the war, with two kings running about, counterfeit lead coins plated with gold were rampant. Simon would know, as he had minted quite a few respectable forgeries himself, hence his paranoia. Though the "bite test" was the most common method of determining a counterfeit coin, in more polite settings, merchants used the acid test, as gold is a noble metal which is resistant to change by corrosion, oxidation, or acid. "You were expected days ago," Simon remarked, removing he protective leather gloves he wore when handling the acid. "I had thought the advance payment I sent the late Ser Lucas would have been sufficient impetus for haste. This is a time sensitive opportunity, after all." “Pardon our tardiness, but we are lucky to have made it here at all.” Harlan spoke to Simon with respect, he’d never met the man before but it was clear that he’d earned his small slice of Westeros. “Longinch’s gang has gone through some changes since you sent your letter, but we have come to hear of the job you’ve proposed. My name is Harlan, and these are my companions, Vex and Barley.”

"Wish that I had been the one to do it. Fandrall was a good man, occasionally obnoxious, aye, but a good man nonetheless. He didn't deserve to meet such a gruesome fate" Boros snorted, then led a slice of meat into his mouth. He savoured it slowly, feeling the juices gently touching his pallate. "This, my friend, surely surpasses Fandrall's by a large margin. May the Seven bless thiS magical cook of yours." Days eating stale old bread had left him in a state that even if had been rotten meat, Boros' would have enjoyed it the very same way. "May I make a request, Master Augie?" Boros looked towards the end of the room, where two massive black figures laid at rest. They were probably exhausted, their last meal had been nothing more than a large rat that they had managed to capture. The big old man had never been a great hunter, so he had relied mostly on the mastiff's ability to catch prey. Only occasionally did they manage to get enough food for the three of them. "Would you have any old bones or stale meat to spare for my hounds?" It filled him with sorrow to see his pups in such a state. In the absence of his daughter, Priscilla and Bartholomeo had been the closest thing he had to family. "I can pay, of course. I don't have much to myself, but should be enough to get them fed for the night." (Charm 61) (Failed) "Nymeria's rag, of course you can have the damn bones!" Augie roared in annoyance at his overly lavish words. "Did you imagine I was saving them for my secret fucking seance tonight?" "You didn't tell me you could commune with the sprits, my good man." This was a risky move, but Boros' was willing to give it a go. He put out a wholesome smile and continued, trying to lighten the mood. "Maybe you could get hold of my bastard of a brother, see if he can clean my name of that whole mess he put me into." (Charm 61)

"Where is Redhands?"

Augie pointed his fork at the other two bandits. "One of you. Remind your new brother in arms what I said not a minute before about the afterlife."

"Where is Redhands?" "He is indisposed," said Vex, removing her hood to allow Simon the courtesy of looking her in the eye. The missing one she'd since covered with a relatively new black piece of cloth. Her tone was a clear indication she cared for the unwanted attention as little as Simon, likely even less so. "We've something for you as well," she added.

"Permanently or temporarily?" Simon inquired, as if discussing a change in the weather. "Is this all that remains of the Red Hand Gang? You will need more manpower than this for the task at hand."
"Do you now?" he asked, in reference to her second point.

"He told us not to talk about our bounties, as I recall." Ser Richard told the elderly man getting scolded by the middle aged one with some sort of power complex. "Seems he's not eager for us to talk about our pasts either. No complaints from me about that."

Boros' decided that this had been well deserved, and that trying to make friends with a criminal boss. Needless to say, he was not yet used to this type of life.
Looking at Richard, he simply nodded. It was better for him to shut up for a bit after this little misstep.

"Understandable. The less said, the better..." Sigfry said nonchalantly. He didn't want to think about what he'd been through, he wanted to only live in the here and now. And right now he was enjoying the best tasting food he'd had in a while. "How's about this. Name's Sigfry, it's a pleasure to meet you two."

"Do you now?" he asked, in reference to her second point. "It's a permanent position," Vex replied and nodded. "That's half of us, aye. We're here for recruits as well." She laid whatever valuables from the farm job she'd brought on the fence's desk and motioned for Harlan to do the same.

Simon looked Vex up and down, with the the same discerning gaze he had the gold pieces, as if checking her authenticity as well. "In that case, we have packing salt in the kitchens and a cold cellar for storage, for the usual fee."
He turned his critical gaze to the collected loot, muttering to himself as he inspected the various pieces, measuring out bags of coins as he estimated the value of each piece, minus his 10% finder's fee of course. He doled out two gold pieces for the necklace, which he converted to two bags of silver for easier distribution, adding in a few more silver pieces for the ring after measuring it and testing that it simply wasn't silver alloy. Last, he opened the fine purse that none of the bandits had actually bothered looking inside, pulling out three rough uncut diamonds, which he examined with a tiny Myrish lens. He gave a gold dragon and a half for each, once again converted into larger bags of silver. All in all, it was a decent take, enough to keep a group of five provisioned for a year or more if they were frugal. If thy spent it as most bandits did, on women and drink, it would likely run out in a few months.
"Now we can get to the business at hand," the fence suggested, taking out some solid gold goblets. "Wine? I have a '87 from Whitewalls." It was well known that Lord Ambrose Butterwell had the finest wines north of the Arbor.

Richard responded, not giving his own name in return. The other two seemed unaffected by the meat. He would wait a few more minutes and then dig in.

Longinch's poor taste had left his pallet unsatisfied and he had been yearning for a good drink for some time. When Simon presented him with a goblet fashioned from gold, Harlan's eyes went wide, he fought to keep himself from drooling. Nevertheless, he remained composed on the surface, reminding himself that he was a performer. He had held golden chalices before, sure they had been simple painted wood stage props, but he could pretend all the same. "Thank you," responded Harlan, with appropriate courtesy. He channeled nobility from within, he'd played enough Lords and wealthy merchants to keep pace. "Lord Ambrose has a talented vintner in his keep. Though to be fair, anything aged in Riverlands Oak is going to be a superior wine."

Vex thanked the man with a respectful nod and helped herself to the chair opposite the fence. "We're listening," she said. If she was skeptic about being offered some fancy vintage in a solid gold goblet, she did a pretty good job of not showing it.
