"I spent four years in the army," the fourteen year old said. "I can spot a rapist three leagues and a million people away. He was coming for her sooner or later, and she deserves a better job than she has now," he said sincerely. Nyles could kill someone like the tanner barely raising his pulse, but he had little real sense of cruelty to women. "And I have sisters. I assure you this isn't some game." He looks to the writ then the man. he takes the clothes to the girl in the next room. He sighs as he places them on something convenient. "I am sorry," he said. "If it is all right with you, I'd like to make it up to you." Visenya was sitting in a chair, legs curled up, hands clutching the quilted cloak around her. She whispered softly without quite looking at him, "I just told them you were a friend. I didn't mention the... The other thing." The girl looked up at him with hope in her eye, "Can you get me a proper job at the Red Keep, or maybe a manse? I can cook and clean and I don't ask questions." She doesn't immediately stand up to dress, likely because he's still looking at her.

The squire turns his back. "Get dressed," he said. "Do you like wine? I like wine and I'm rather hungry. I'd prefer discussing this once the guards leave. I can promise that I can improve your situation; I promised to and I'll see it done." He sat with his back to her so she could dress. "I have some coin for you now but if you can be a bit patient a few lousy silver will be the least we can arrange. What's your favorite food?"

"Blackwater crab? And I like wine." She seemed not entirely sure if she was being wooed or not. After a moment of rustling noise, she declared she was dressed.

Nyles turned and smiled. "Sounds delicious," he said. He offered an arm for her to take and went back to Sandor. "I'll be needing that, please. Getting arrested for having my sword would just make this night even better. I promise you won't have any trouble from me."
The squire held out some silver spins for the guards. "I'm really sorry about the mess," he said. "Just need enough to get the poor lady here a drink and some food, if you don't mind. I know I've caused quite a headache but I promise there's plenty more to this story."
Hopefully he gets the damn thing, but he isn't in a position to negotiate so either way he heads down the road away from the tavern Visenya worked at to stop at a place that had crab. He pulled her seat out for her. "I'm starving," he admitted. Killing was energy-intensive work.

Hearty Herb was an unpopular man in a period of great upheaval. Dangerous time to be unpopular..." *** The Winter's Delight was operated by one of the more successful fishing businesses in the Crownlands, and one of a small number that appreciated the benefits of basic refrigeration by leaving their catches in piled snow to maintain its shelf life. It was clearly intended for the upper echelons of Westerosi society, but the lack of paying customers since the siege had forced them to lower their prices considerably. The pair of conspirators were seated near a portrait of the Wall. To Nyles, it looked more like a child's plaything made out of driven snow than a proper military fortification. To Visenya, it looked like the end of the world.

Nyles orders some crab and ale for the both of them. "Anyway," he said, having folded their cloaks and placed them under the table, "I think that my sister could use a maid. She's very nice and," he leaned in conspiratorially, "she used to have to work at a tavern too, during the war. Times were tough in the Riverlands." He smiled at her. "I hope you're feeling better; I am dreadfully sorry about earlier." He followed her gaze to the Wall portrait. "I wonder if it really looks like that," he said.

Still staring at the painting, "Muh Pa was sent there. Mum never told me why, but Ah don't think it was his choice." Visenya turned to look at him. "Your sistuh...? You still 'aven't even told me your name yet. Ah 'eard them cloaks say you were the King's own squire. Is that true? Do you really know Daemon Blackfyre?" For the first time in his life, someone was looking at him the way people traditionally looked at his brothers and uncles.

"I'm Nyles Blackfort," he said. "I am the king's squire," he admitted, "though the gods alone know why. My father was just a landless knight." He looked about. "My sister Alice is the queen's handmaiden. She'd like you I think." He sipped his drink. "I hope they don't send me to the Wall," he muttered.

The crab and wine arrived, along with the hammers. "Ah think ah know the name Blackfort. One of you killed Breakspear. 'E was real popular in this city. Not the wizard fellow. No one ever mourned him. But if your sister's as nice as you, Ah don't give a fig for either of 'em." She began cracking shells with a grin, cleanly separating out the soft meat. It was the first time she had ever really smiled in his presence.

Nyles nodded. "Well, war was sort of our talent," he said. "Got to see if we're any good at peace." He ate some crab and watched her devour it. Seafood wasn't something he was used to but the salty flavor appealed to him. "The King should be popular soon enough. He's a great man." He considered as he drank his ale. "My sister is much nicer than me," he said. "Where do you live?"

"Maiden's Crossing." Visenya described a collection of flats surrounding tiny plaza not far from the Great Sept. "Just muh mum and me. Ah 'ad a brother, but 'e died early in the war. Not Redgrass but just before. Which suited everyone." Her smile vanished at some distant memory, before restoring it to ask. "And where are your people from?"

"Lord Harroway's Town," he said. "We guarded a gate, apparently; I've been on campaign since I was nine," he said. "I don't remember it much." The squire had some bread to dry his mouth out. "My brother is the new Lord of Harrenhal, but...I've never been too close to him; he's a decade older than me. I have another brother too, but I'm really only close to my sisters."

Your brother is Ravensbane." She gave him a sad look. "Ah'm sorry. Muh father's brother was a 'edge knight. Made a name for 'imself. 'Ended up with a piece o' land near Duskendale. Muh father spent 'is life in the shadow of Uncle Arthur. Always bein' asked about Arthur this and Arthur that. Got 'is first job on a ship because the captain thought Pa could get 'im some kind of deal with my uncle's liege. In the end, Ah think it was envy and frustration that got 'im to the Wall more than the 'unger and lawlessness."

"Jealousy is a powerful weapon," he said, "but I don't want his cursed castle. Two hundred years of death convinced me it has something wrong." He looked about. "I'm rather happy making friends with the royal family and having the ability to choose some of my destiny. Or at least who I serve." He smiles. "What would you do if you could do anything?"

She thought carefully as she gobbled a long stretch of crab meat. "Ah think... Ah would own a restaurant. A proper restaurant. Not a tavern, because people go to taverns to get drunk and make passes at the serving girls and rut with 'ores in back. Ah want a nice place with good food like this where decent folks bring their wives and children. What about you? Are you going to be a knight? Win all the big tourneys, seduce some highborn girl?" She grinned at that last bit.
