Hoster and his men waited in the shadows of an alley parallel to the Humming Maiden. While he played with his knives, he set Pate and Muddy to keep an eye on the comings and goings of the inn. If anyone gave any indication of being a member of the staff of the Mandrake's that one would be their target.

Eventually, a boy with the look of a squire bearing the correct livery exited the inn. He was perhaps 12, and already had finer hair than any of the Bonny boys. From his path and the brush and bucket in his hand, it was clear he was heading to the nearby stable.

"Ye three: bring 'im 'ere. Mors, ye keep an eye out fer onlookers..." Hoster nodded towards the direction of the stables, he didn't move, trying to keep his face on the shadows, his dagger dug under his nails, cleaning the dirt. "If 'e scream, I wouldnee wan' ta be in yer place."

Round 1 (Unarmed and Unarmored): Pate: 96 Muddy: 54 Jem: 64 Squire (-20 for being outnumbered): 14
Mors (observations): 67
The three men jump the shocked squire without trouble, Muddy covering the lad's mouth as Jem punched him in the stomach and Pate cracked him in the back of the head. They dragged the poor squire over to Hoster, before Mors called that there a pair of Goldcloaks were making their way down the street on patrol. They quartet and their captive retired to a shady alley away from watchful eyes.

"Keep 'im gagg'd, boyos. I don' wan' ta heard a soun' out o' his mouth." He told his thugs before splashing some of the contents of his wineskin on the kid's face. "Pate an' Mors, watch is yers."
"Wakey wakey, kiddo..." Hoster said wsat in a dark corner, he spoke softly but with strength in his voice. His dagger's blade flashed against the moonlight, it was an ugly thing, far some fancy noble blade. "Ah heard ye werk fer Lady Mandrake, eh? Ye may not believe it, but ah'm a close friend o' 'ers."

Hoster Blackfort: 102 Squire: 63
The boy was clearly terrified, though to his credit, his pantaloons remained dry. He stared up at the stranger and said in a weak tone, "M-my name is Wilbur M-mandrake. If you bear g-grievances against my mother... Then there is an honorable path for this... This sort of thing."

"Nah nah, Willy... May ah call ye Willy? O' cours' ah can." Hoster said, getting closer to where Jem pinned young Wilbur down. He knelt beside him, getting close enough for the boy to get a taste of his sour breath. "Ah just wan' ta help yer mom. Ye see, she's got a big mouth, as big as 'er cunt so it seems. Ah just need ta keep an eye on 'er, so that other persons, bad persons won' try to do 'er 'arm. Aight? 'tis for 'er safety..." He used his blade to fondle the boy's fine hair. "An' yers. Ye coul' keep an eye on 'er for me, can't ye?"

His eyes almost bulged out of his skull as the blade touched his head. This was not something his master had taught him about.

"Good good..." Hoster, with his enormous calloused palms, tapped twice the kid cheeks. "One o' mah boys will keep an eye on ye in yer castle, an' once in a while ye may repot ta him. I wan' ta now ev'rythin', aight? If yer moma e'en farts out of 'er usual schedule, I wan' to have it on me desk bah nightfall. Once in a while ah may ask ye ta do me a favor."" He sheathed his knife, glad that he didn't have to use it, blood was terrible to wash off from clothing. "Fail to do tha' or tell som'one, an' me and mah boyos will pay ye a visit."
"Yeah, naw that was all." Hoster backed off into the corner of the alley. "They'll pro'bly ask ye why ye took so long. An' yer gonna tell'em some bandits got to ye... Aight? But foh them to believe tha, we'll 'ave to make it look real.'"
"Jem, Muddy... Ye kno' da drill. Just tra not ta hurt 'im much." He nodded for them to finish their work. "It may hurt a bit, kiddo. But trust me, it could be worse. A'n remember, ye ne'er saw me eere." Hoster turned his back and made his way back to the Shady Sham.

Nyles waits a day for his soreness to fade, then after his daily training and errands and whatever else he has to do, he sets out on to the streets to find a fat, balding, giant of a man near where he'd seen him taunt the queen. He brings a dagger and a few copper and two silver but no more of his gold. A sword would draw unwanted attention and if he gets robbed he has no reason to be concerned. He finds the closest two or three taverns and scans them for the fat seditious bastard.

He finds the closest two or three taverns and scans them for the fat seditious bastard. (31 Observation) (Success. 1 Point awarded to Observation.) After the slaughter in the Great Sept, streets are filled with City Watch patrols. Certain people trusted by the King, such as his squire, are given a writ of approval allowing them free passage and the right to bear arms. It takes him an hour to find someone recognizing his target's description, but eventually, he is informed he's likely looking for Hearty Herb, a tanner of little renown who tends to frequent a certain establishment. The tavern is called the Merman's Balls. The sign depicts a masculine figure with a flowing beard, the lower body of a fish, and holding a great blue circle above each hand. Decades earlier, it had been a licensed brothel before the Great Sept was built and the owner was driven out of business by his new, devout neighbors. Now, it is just a regular tavern, with the whores' quarters converted into gambling parlors. Inside, Nyles finds the usual drunkards and reprobates that make up the lower classes. He can see Hearty Herb making failed passes at a waitress the same age as Nyles.

After the waitress leaves his sight, Nyles approaches her. "Hello," he said, a smile in place. "That man seems to be making you uncomfortable." He hands her a few copper coins, but lets the silver coins he has briefly slide into view. "I was hoping you could help me get rid of him."

"Good," he said. "You probably know the man's a tanner. You offer him," he looked her over a brief second, "you know what to offer him tomorrow in exchange for some nice leathers. I'll be here an hour past sundown tomorrow and we'll go to pick them up at his house. You start distracting him, and I'll take care of the rest. If you let him in on it, it won't end well for you," he promised, "but I assure you, nothing will happen to you, and once this is done you can have a bit of an...upgrade to your lifestyle. What's your name?" he asked. "And get me an ale so no one thinks we're being all sneaky."
