"The Basics." Symon answers back. "Going to show you how to hold your own in a fight. How to stand, how to hold your weapon, and where to hit the enemy when you can manage it." He says, "Come a real fight piss on whatever honor you feel should be part of it. Fight dirty, get your best buddy and fight two on one. Try and outnumber whomever is trying to kill you and you are that much harder to take down. Does everyone know which weapon they think they want to try and learn." He says looking at each of them in turn with his eyes lingering on the one that asked the first question.

Qhorin hesitated, this area quite outside his own expertise. By a mile. He furrowed his brow "don't... We get trained in what's available? Swords are expensive, nothing really big of metal, right?"

"What is your profession?" He asks walking up to the man. "You can pick up a stick and wave it around to beat someone lifeless, but not nearly as well as a hammer, or a spear."

The man crossed his thick arms above his not inconsiderable paunch "Mason" he says, adding on "Master Mason. Swing hammers some times, not as much sticks. Axes sometimes too."

"Good, then you don't need a sword to kill a man." Symon states plainly. "Grab your hammer, get in close to him so his sword is cramped and bash away at his head." He claims. He then motions towards the shack nearby holding all the training weapons and armor that he had put in when he was made master at arms. "If you have a tool that you can use to fight go get it. If not go find a weapon that seems to be closely related to something you can find. And then we will start hitting each other." He tells the crowd.

The man will move forward along with the rest, picking up the wooden maul used to fake a war hammer and bouncing it up and down in his hands a few times. "Right. This'll do"

Symon goes aroudn and pairs the peasants up against each other in pairs and sets them up doing several basic drills to get them accustomed to whatever weapon that they picked. Once things where running smoothly Symon see's that the master mason was an odd man out. Symon then motions for the man so that he could help the man practice one-on-one.

Qhorin faces the man with a great amount of uncertainy, holding the wooden shaft loosely in his hands. "So... do I just, try to hit you?" he asks lamely. That was the point wasn't it? Hitting the other guy harder, and not falling unconscious. Those had been the rules in the Lannisport wrestling ring.

/////////////////////
3rd day of the 3rd moon.
It was another grey winter morning, Hoster had been walking again for something around a week, his damaged body seemed to be healing steadily. Although it made his empty elbow ache just a little, the cold didn't bother him much, as always the alcohol would keep him warm enough to get through the day. He watched with a blue expression as he watched his recruits training in the yard.
That scene reminded him of someone he had not seen in a long while; Hoster had once been a youthful spirited lad just like them, excited to be joining a new life in the City Watch. But those days were gone, the memories of those times faded away by the constant drinking and occasional concussions from blows in the back of his head.

"That seems to be the plan. I want to see any natural talent first before I know how best to train you." Symon tells the mason.
//////////
Symon was running the men through numerous drills and procedures when Hoster came to watch. Several men where practicing their forms hitting dummys while others where busy facing each other practicing parrying and deflecting each others blows.

//// Aelison and Violet arrived at the yard to visit with Lord Mallister.
"Well.. He is a Lord", she watched him practicing his sword forms,"I see why he was so good in the melee."

"Yes. I don't know much about combat but even I can see that Lord Mallister is a skilled warrior," Violet answered. "We had better wait until he takes a moment's respite, or else spots us. It would be rude - not to mention foolish - to intrude upon his efforts. Besides, men like to have an audience, I think."

Chuckling at Violet's response, there is the posturing again. "I guess you maybe right, we can wait", she smiled. "I'm sure he already knows that we're here. I'm kind of surprised his daughter is not with him, they seem to be a formidable pair when together."

"Yes. Well, it doesn't matter, does it? It was Lord Mallister you wished to speak with. Now," she leaned in close. to whisper "Complimenting the lord on his prowess in the melee would be an excellent start, and a perfectly reasonable explanation for our presence."

Aelison nodded as she listened. "So I have to stoke his..... Ego", she answered in slight whisper. "What if he is not the type that likes compliments?" She thought about what she said and looked at him again,"I take that back, the man seems as if he is a strutting rooster, even if he is a good swordsman."
