Belric chuckled to himself, thinking Medgar's wife had no problem avoiding her husband. Though he could not help but think of the many wives who lost their husbands to the war. Without the men, lands were left undefended, entire villages defenseless. Belric highly doubted any woman was pleased to watch their loved one's back as they walked away for the last time, regardless of whatever reprieve it granted. However, Medgar was a rat who had barricaded himself behind stone, content to do nothing while the rest of the world lived on. It was clear to Belric what Medgar knew, and it did not include women or war. Belric had given Medgar a chance at allegiance, when he had ventured to Riverrun. He even played the part of the dutiful vassal, willing to leave the past where it belonged. Yet, instead of talking about the future, Tully wanted to waist time, play games, and violate the trust of his guests and vassals. Now he had been invited into Belric's home, insulted his progress, and threatened to empty his treasury. It was obvious that Medgar did not see a future that included Belric, and therefore there was only one option. He did not have whisperers and assassins to do his bidding, but despite what Saesha may think, or anyone in that room, Belric was not without his devices. "How can you say such things?" Belric said with a concerning tone, marinated in sarcasm. "What more could Lady Tully want for when she had you there for comfort?" He put an arm around Medgar's shoulder, refusing to be ignored, violating the Lord Paramount's personal space. Belric pulled him in close, continuing with the "chummy-pals" charade, adding, "My mother simply died following my father's passing, like so many women and children while us men were off fighting." He spoke like it was a joke, despite the morbidity. "But hey..." he chimed one last time, giving Medgar a good pat on the back. "...benefits of war." Belric looked to his wife and shrugged, as if to say, I'm sorry.
Once again, Medgar did not rise to the bait, though he was clearly losing patience with the oaf. "Then perhaps you should concern yourself with your own wife and child," he suggested, with no trace of humor this time, though he sounded genuinely concerned for Saesha. "I believe she said she was feeling unwell. I would give more thought to the well being of the woman carrying the future of my house. Now will you be escorting her to her quarters or shall I have one of the knights of Riverrun give you a lesson in chivalry?"

"Harmless sound to me like another word for dull," Whalen remarked, with a devilish smirk. "But Brackens are known as horsemen first. I would be happy to take you for a ride. Or we could just steal away somewhere now." Still keeping half an eye on the situation between Belric and his liege lord, Violet was struck by Whalen's suggestion. She longed to escape the awkwardness of the present situation. "You know, Ser Whalen, that is not a bad idea. I would rather not be here if the situation turns from awkward to unpleasant. It would be quite proper for you to escort me to the walls for some air. Maybe even the godswood. Just for a few minutes, until the heat dies down."

"Lead the way then," Whalen gallantly offered his arm. "Though I daresay you'll find more heat in my company."

She laughed merrily. "We'll see, ser. The cool night air will surely clear our heads. But remember, it is only for a little while."
She put a small hand on his arm and guided him towards the door. "I think we'll just go to the ramparts. I can't stray far from the hall."

"Of course, we wont be gone long," he assured her, in the least convincing tone possible. "I'm sure the view is splendid from atop the curtain wall."

Belric gave Medgar a wicked grin, his size an obvious advantage when comparing the men side by side. Call it stupidity, call it bullheadedness, call it bravery. Whatever it was, Belric met Tully's eyes without fear. "Of course m'lord, what a grand idea. Your men can give me a lesson in manners, and I can teach them the swordsmanship they missed during the war. It is as you said, we must account for one another's weaknesses if we are to become stronger as a whole."
(Intimidation: 74) +10 for Ravensbane boon.

(You rolled a 28. Failed again, this time by 8. Belric loses 1 personal disposition level with Medgar)
Medgar did not cower or even flinch at Belric's attempt to force him into submission. He had faced trebuchets, wall assaults, and starvation for years where lesser men would have raised the white flag. Belric had judged his liege lord incredibly poorly in mistaking composure and restraint for weakness.
"As your brother was present at the siege, I'm sure he can attest that my men had no shortage of practice with their swords during the war," Tully replied coolly, not breaking eye contact or even his pleasant demeanor. "Where is Ser Edmure? I have not seen him all evening," he feigned ignorance. Most everyone knew what had befallen Edmure at this juncture, but that was not the point.

Saesha approached her husband and pressed herself slightly against his arm, to whisper into his ear, rude as it was, but she was sure the room would forgive her, "let go of your pride, and come away, you cannot win this," she hissed, speaking low so others would not hear, "Ser Edmure died defending his beloved sister from the perils of the road," Seasha explained briefly, looking to Tully, "if you will excuse us my lord," she tried to lead Belric away.

Belric stood tall, unresponsive to his wife's plea. Tugging at him was like trying to move a boulder still half buried.
It was a funny thought, that Belric admired Tully's steadfast resolve. Perhaps in another life, had they not been on opposite sides of the war or had he not been slighted upon their first meeting, they may have been friends. They were an anomaly, a chance encounter between an unstoppable force and an immovable object. The revelation was quite profound to Belric, he had never had a worthy rival... until now.
Not falling for Medgar's ruse, he added, "Your concern for my family is most kind, m'lord. Lady Saesha and I are pleased to have the opportunity to return your hospitality. You honor us by staying under our roof." He gave Medgar a stiff bow, conceiting defeat, clearly outmatched.
"We are honored by all of you!" He shouted to the crowd. "And I look forward to watching your houses compete, while we share in the benefits of peace." He found emphasis in his final words, before allowing Saesha to drag him off... probably to be put down for good measure.

Jormun debates making rounds through the hall to emphasize his bastard blood and exceptional fighting skill to the lords, as well as a price tag for his services if everybody decided to kill Belric, but instead he just shakes his head as he turns to Dacey. "It amazes me Belric has survived himself for so long."

In the back of the hall where he had been quiet Percival started laughing. He bent over double he was laughing so hard. He fell against the wall because his feet had grown weak. After several moments of pure bliss he turned back to the man he had been speaking to and said, "I am sorry what was that again? I lost my train of thought."

"I tend to think it's largely due to our contribution," replied Dacey and looked impassively as Saesha dragged Belric from the hall, accompanied by Percival's laughter. "Is this... thing over?" she asked Jormun while watching the crowd, trying to determine whether the riverlords were expecting something further.

"As far as I'm concerned it is. I'll try talking with them when this farce is hidden behind our performances in the tourney." Jormun turned towards the entrance of the great hall, releasing a quiet sigh. "I need a hunt."

Arya laughed before countering, "The tools may be similar, but the purposes are distinct. A man does not brag to a lady how skillfully he hath poked another man and left him gasping for air upon his backside. Certainly, it can be said that to grip the horse with your legs might serve as practice for a different steed, but not all mares come with stirrups. Certainly not all mares are so easily managed when in heat."
Visenya grinned at Willem. "Well... Those particular skills served your lord well enough. Perhaps another war will break out soon and another sworn sword will earn his own castle. Such are the fortunes of talented men. Not always... But often."
