"The preparations have already begun," said Dacey, who hadn't had the chance to mention their guests yet. "The Goodbrooks sent a letter of their impending arrival a few days ago. We are also currently hosting Lord Shoreham, who wishes to swear fealty to Belric directly."
She sighed, stepping away from the wall. "One of us has to stay at Harrenhal," she told Edmure. Leaving Hoster in charge now was unthinkable. "A duel would end this situation quickly and from what I understood, all parties find it agreeable. There is no need to start another war. I will go there and kill Smallwood's champion," she said.

"I doubt Piper will agree to allow you to use your bow in a duel of this nature. He wouldn't see it as honorable. And I've never seen you wear anything in combat but leather. You'd be cut down in close quarters against a champion knight armored in plate. " Edmure replied.

"Do you think I mean to ask for his permission? Duels have no rules," she said. "And I've cut down knights in armor before. He would be far from the first."

Edmure looked in amazement at Dacey. "This is not a general melee as you would be used to on the battlefield, Dacey. There may be few rules once the duel is underway, but there are still conventions to follow. Two individuals with matched weapons in accordance with agreed-upon rules, such as whether it is to be to the death or first blood or until one side yields. Those things are agreed upon beforehand."

As he speaks, Edmure coughs up a glob of blood, a final reminder that the complications of untreated broken ribs could be fatal. Sending the maester from the room may have been ill-advised.

Edmure wiped his mouth on a nearby small piece of cloth he kept handy, murmuring his apologies.
Percival would have seen his malady for himself, had he still been present. Still the Maester had chosen to depart after Edmure had given him the choice of leaving or staying. He reflected that while it have not been appropriate to seek immediate treatment during the meeting, he had hoped the Maester would have been able to give him some genuine advice on both on his physical condition and the political matter at hand. Not for the first time had the Maester stymied his own chance to have some influence at Harrenhal through his overweening pride. Edmure still resolved to seek him out once they had concluded their business here.
"You can see why our champion is unlikely to be myself." he remarked to the group.

Willem had kept his mouth shut after making his inopportune comment during Dacey's entrance. But as Dacey practically offered herself up as a human sacrifice he could remain silent no longer. Letting an unarmoured Lady fight, and most definitely die, in their place would bring shame upon all the knights assembled. Willem at least was not prepared to stand by and watch the Lord's sister get killed needlessly.
"I would sooner fight wounded than allow Lady Dacey to fight in my place." He told Edmure.

"And if you fight, will you fight with injuries?" asked Edmure. "What was Percival's diagnosis?"

"He was not all that conversational." Willem replied. "A diagnosis was never offered. However even if I am still injured by then, I would still sooner fight injured than risk your sister against Smallwood's champion."

As both you and my sister have volunteered to fight as Harrenhal's champion, it appears that I need to make a choice." mused Edmure half to himself.
Stating the obvious he knew, but he was wondering if any other needed time to interject. His eyes rested on Willis briefly. The man had been spoiling for a fight at Armistead's Crossing, although he seemed strangely quiet now.

"You'd rather send these injured men than me?" asked Dacey incredulously, clearly not appreciating Willem's interjections.

Edmure nodded in response to Dacey's comment. "If Willem is recovered by the agreed time and he may well be, then he will be my choice. And I have a number of reasons for deciding such, none of which are a slight on your own valor and fighting ability."

Jormun arrives, only slightly-completely-late, his hair and clothing ruffled from a quick ride. "My apologies, I was returning from a trip to the forest when word reached me."

Edmure nodded without a comment on Jormun's lateness, indicating that his half-brother should take a seat.
"Willem and Dacey have both offered to fight Lord Piper's champion in this land dispute. I have chosen Willem, unless another candidate more suited than Willem presents themselves as an alternative." he said by way of explanation.

"Then I believe I don't have any further reason to be here," she commented, and walked out of the room, exchanging a look with with Jormun on her way out.
