"No offense taken." Willem remarked, saying nothing else so Edmure could reply.

"Lord Vance has agreed to this duel, so he will have to accept the result, as will we." said Edmure. "If Willem prevails, and I have every confidence he will, and Smallwood and Piper do not accept what the Gods have decreed, then it will be war. Any attack on our persons, troops, lands or goods will be met with a full retaliatory response." (OOC: couldn't resist quoting JFK - sorry )

"As you say, of course." Willis replied, nodding. "We play the honorable side of it."

"We do" he said in reply to Willis.
He stood with slight difficulty staggering a little.
"Thank you Sers. It's time I met with Lord Shoreham and Lord Goodbrook's impending arrival must also be dealt with. We'll meet at the appointed time for the ride to the Crossing."

18th day 3rd moon
Edmure returned to his chambers, after leaving Belric's meeting in the Hall of the Hundred Hearths. After some time sitting by the fire, deep in thought, with a cup of his favorite ale, he moved to his desk. Taking out a scrap piece of parchment, he scribbled on it for a couple of minutes and then sealed it in a pouch, leaving it on the desk.
As he closed the door behind him, he said to the guard. "See that no-one enters apart from Lord Belric." Without waiting for an affirmation, he disappeared down the steps.

Later that evening, Belric went to look for his brother hoping time had cooled Edmure's temper.
"Is my brother in?" He asked the guard standing at his post.

"He left some time ago, milord," the guard replied. "Told us not to allow anyone entry but yourself." The guard opened the door to reveal empty room with a sealed letter on the desk.

Belric nodded to the guard, and entered the empty room. He made a quick round, looking to see if there was anything that would elude to Edmure's absence.

Just the letter on the desk. It read as follows: Belric, It has become clear to me that my position as Castellan of Harrenhal is no longer tenable. As such, I hereby step aside as Castellan - effective immediately - leaving you free to appoint another more worthy person to that position. The reasons for my decision should be clear to you. Edmure.

"Coward," was the only word that left his mouth. He crumpled up the letter and threw it across the room, the ball of parchment striking the wall rather anticlimactically. So, in dazzling form, Belric proceeded to destroy Edmure's solar.
The desk was lighter than expected, and seemed to almost float through the air with only a little help from Belric. Unlike the piece of paper, the desk made a deafening crash as it struck the stone wall.
The bookcase looked old, but strong. It held up to Belric's first kick, his heel slamming into the shelves. However, on the second stomp, the first three shelves came tumbling down, books scattering across the floor.
For several minutes he raged, breaking whatever he could find, picturing each inanimate object as Edmure's face. When he grew tired and ran out of things to break, Belric left to go find something to eat.
