Jared frowned as he considered the question.
"I am no student of theology, my lord. To answer that question in truth, you would need to speak with a septon who has studied the Seven Pointed Star and other texts for years before taking his vows. But as you know, I was a knight before I took my vows, and I've little formal training. I can speak from the heart though, and my heart says that the Mother Above would not deny her grace to innocent children slain by a wicked woman."
He paused for a moment, then suggested "If you wish, I could perform a cleansing ritual in those areas most associated with Lady Lothston's evil deeds. Perhaps that would ease the people's suffering."

"You would need to bless this entire castle to rid it of Lady Lothson's blight," replied Belric. "I had a different idea, perhaps a more direct approach. I have asked Jamie the Smith to build a memorial for the lost children of Harrentown. He has recently confirmed a design and I expect him to begin the sculpture any day. I would like for you to speak at the unveiling, offering your blessing in person for both the memorial and the parents who will be in attendance."

"I'd be hsppy to do so," Jared answered. "If my words may comfort the grieving, I offer them freely. I've no children of my own, but I see the suffering of your lordship's people and I will help them any way I can."

"Thank you," He said flatly. "What else can you tell me about the suffering of my people?"

"They have the same difficulties as any of the smallfolk across Westeros," Jared replied. "They do the same work and take pleasure in the same things. I'm no peasant but I've known poverty and hunger, and your people have lived through the difficulties of wartime. They've seen their sons go to war, and some haven't come back, and they've lost their children. Lady Lothston robbed your people of their future."
He paused for a moment, reflecting on the situation. There were rumours of future conflict brewing, and that meant yet more trouble for the smallfolk, as it always did.
"Some of your people will have more children now they live under your protection, but what of the women past child-bearing age, or the widows whose husband died in the war? You will keep them safe and I can offer them comfort, but neither of us can bring back their dead. No matter what we do, we cannot change the past and some wounds don't heal."

Belric smiled at Jared's lengthy answer, not having expected such a response. What a peculiar knight.
"No we can't." he replied. "And to be honest, I have no desire to right the past. Let it stand as a lesson for us all. May those children's sacrifice be a symbol of what Harrenhal was before House Blackfort delivered justice and reason." He gave Jared a healthy pat on the shoulder. "Keep up the good work, Septom. These people are better for it."
With that, he turned and left.
