"I am going to go to the castle immediately" Barley said, whilst getting her horse ready. She wanted to try and work out who they were dealing with, get an idea of their route, see if there are any things she can look into doing on the way should targeting their food stores not work, and if they were arriving the same night they leave, then she'd not have any opportunity to do something to their provisions under cover of night.

Tim reached for the butcher's blade he'd claimed such a short time ago from the mill that had been their lair. He sharpened it on a whetstone and carried it over to Daven's corpse where he chopped off his former comrade's head. He stowed it in a sack, packed carefully in salt, and tied the sack behind his saddle.

Boros raised a finger to complain at Tim about what he was about to do, but guessed it would be fruitless to do so.
"Alright, Captain." Boros' nodded at Vex, and started packing up.

Vex nodded at Barley. "Best keep the chain," she said, and studied her. "Do you need someone with you that you could send back?" she asked.

“I’ll be fine, to be honest, anyone else might make this harder, considering recent events” Barley said, but smiled at Vex slightly, “I imagine you’ll find out if I failed or not if they just fly past, but to be honest, if they do, just sneak up on them at night and I’m sure you’ll be fine,”
Barley said this full in the knowledge that if she was caught she’d sell them out in a heart beat.
she went over to her horse, removed the chain and gave it to Vex. Then headed off.

Vex nodded and looked as she rode off. She had little to no doubt Barley could pull this off, yet...
She turned to the others. "Let's wrap this up," she said, and looked to the bloody sack Tim had tied to his saddle. "Put it in leathers once it dries off or we'll not make it past the second farmstead we come across."
As people packed up what little they'd unpacked earlier, Vex walked over to Sigfry. "Well fought. And you managed to make a decision," she said, offering him half a smirk. "I want you to know loyalty here is rewarded, just as lack of it has a steep price." She pointed to the farmer's mare carrying Longinch's armor. Why no one had claimed a spare horse yet was beyond her. "She's all yours. You seem like a man that knows his way around plate."

"I've had some proper training in it, Aye..." Sigfry said with a nod, looking to the mans armor and getting a gauge of his own proportions compared to their former companions. He should all in all be in a good spot, though he'd need to cut some of the straps along the left arm. He wouldn't be needing those much given his circumstance.
"I'll make sure to keep loyal. Not everyday you get a suit of armor for killing a man." He said honestly, knowing that even selling it for scrap metal would have been worth a couple of dragons. The gesture was not lost on him, though it was a bit grim.

“I’m not sure Tim is the right man for the job, boss.” Harlan gulped, fearing Vex’s wrath. “Not to question your judgement, but he couldn’t watch the horses on your orders, let alone carry on with a character. I’ll do it if I must, but I’d regret not mentioning it before hand. This task takes a keen sense of deception, and I’m not sure our slack tongued friend has a mind for it. One wrong word out of his mouth and who knows might be there to hear him.”

Hearing Harlan's words, Tim almost swore aloud. He'd thought Harlan his friend but was increasingly realising that might not be the case.
"Oh, come on! I won't deny that I like the sound o' me own voice but I'm not a fool," he said. "Besides, if anyone can distract th' people of th' tavern while yer do yer thing, it's me. Why else do yer think I said we should be the ones t'go? They'll listen to me spinnin' a fine ole tale an' never know yer druggin' em. It 'as to be us."

Vex looked to Harlan, considered it, and nodded in agreement. "We're not drugging them," she told Tim. "We don't even know how many of them there are." She stepped closer to him, her dark eye reading his face. "Can you keep your mouth shut?" she asked.

He met her gaze with a confidence he hadn't known he possessed. He hadn't been quite as chatty of late, no doubt due to the troubles they'd faced.
"Course I can. Swear it on the Seven."

Harlan shook his head, letting off one last shrug before accepting his circumstances. "If it must be Tim, so be it. But we will have to be smart about this." his last statement delivered directly at Tim's, courtesy of a pointed finger. "We will want to get our story straight before heading out, and we will want it to be unassuming." It came to him quickly, with a snap of his fingers. "We're lowborn peasants, picking up the pieces of our lives following the war. I was a stonemason's apprentice, and you're my rather slow friend I picked up while working as a trench digger in Lord Bracken's armies. You're a good worker, but you don't say much." He gave Tim a look, checking to see if he'd understood his part. "Playing dumb can be a real asset, it will make people more forgiving of you. When we get there, you will get a lay of the tavern. I want you to know every corner, door, and window in that place; anywhere somebody can hide or somewhere we can stash weapons. Try not to get caught, but if you do simply act lost. I will worry about discovering the in's and out's of the haberdashery. We want to know as much history as we can, to help sell our story. It's likely some of Roote's guards visit this tavern now and again, so we will need convincing details."
Harlan turned to Vex, holding out an open hand, palm up. "I will need my share of the silver, as well as some additional coin to cover our expenses. Also, Barley is holding onto three gold dragons she stole from Longinch's personals. Simon mentioned the gold to us in the meeting. He also wrote about it in those letters you cant read. Barley was the first one into the chest, so I can only assume she's holding out on us." Harlan gave his statement a wave of dismissal. "It's probably not an issue considering the fortune we are about to come into. I just thought you should know... Being the Boss and all that."

Vex nodded, clearly approving of Harlan's detail for this. She seemed satisfied with Tim's response and change in demeanour.
"I know," was all she had to say to the gold story. She went to her horse once more, fished out the necessary silver and handed it over to Harlan. It was a bit less than he'd requested, but still more than enough for drinks and board. "If you're stonemason's apprentices," she offered in a way of explanation. "They're not exactly flush, I believe."
With that, she gave the order to move out.

======================
Boros Boros walked silently as the crew moved to a new camp location. Mostt of that period he spent thinking the place both bodies had lain. Insubordination wasn't anything new to him, not was the death of mutineers, but every time that happened, he felt deeply touched by the death of comrades, no matter how vile they were.
After a couple more moments of brooding, he decided to strike a conversation, see if he could get rid of the thought.
"An Eyeless woman, a handless fella and an old fat bum sit around a fire... This sure sounds like the start of some kind of joke." He said, letting a healthy chuckle. And deeply hoping not to have offended his companions. "What's up with that lad, Tim? He seems nice enough, but looks a little odd or something. No offense meant to our companion of course, but he sure likes to talk."

Vex hadn't looked fazed at the former campsite where they'd left the corpses, and she didn't look bothered the least about it at their new site, either. "Who are you calling eyeless, you old fat bum?" asked Vex with perhaps a tad of amusement in her voice while keeping her very much intact eye on the road ahead, scanning for anyone approaching the tavern. "I'm sharper with one than most men with two," she said, and briefly looked to Sigfry. "And it seems same could be said about the 'handless fella'."
She returned her attention to the road. "Tim... Tim's a bit simple," she said. "But he has a few tricks up his sleeves."
