See, in the books, it's stated the High Septon already found the stash under the Great Sept, along with several other sashes throughout the city, and Cersei was indeed collecting the stuff. Also, all the competent alchemists were murdered in order to stop the wildfire plot.
In the show, the alchemists are still capable of producing wildfire, and in Season 2, it's stated Queen Cersei has been having the Guild pump out wildfire by the barrel, and that's what Tyrion used against Stannis.
I believe the foreshadowing is meant to highlight Cersei's own madness and not to set up the logistics of the actual scene.

By the time the White Walkers even get here, half the great houses will be extinct. Also, was anyone else shocked to see Maester Percival made it to the small screen? A shame we weren't privy to his internal monologue, I bet he thought Sam was quite the fat piggy. This should be my new avatar.

If I knew Stannis had left Dragonstone to the flies, I would have taken it myself.

If I knew Stannis had left Dragonstone to the flies, I would have taken it myself. It was a good scene though. I tend not to like a lot of Dany scenes but I did like the way they did that one. I actually liked everything in the episode except the character pretending to be Euron Greyjoy. Worse, the actor himself claims the character cannot be compared to Ramsay's villainy, and that he's nothing more than a hooligan.
