Harlan turned at the commotion, trying to keep a good face despite now finding the situation rather problematic.
"Please, we're all here to bid farewell to His Holiness," he reminded the crowd, looking from the one-eyed man to the soot-stained one. "The least we could do is be respectful towards him and this holy temple."

"The least we could do is be respectful towards him and this holy temple." (Charm 40) (Success... Sort of. Personal disposition increased with mob.) The growing mob takes Harlan's words to heart. "Aye!" Cries the soot faced man. "We should honor His Holiness's last words!" A boy missing most of his right arm gestured with his stump. "I saw the Blackfyre family right over there! And some white cloaks!" A few people actually spat on the Sept floor upon hearing that news. So much for respecting this holy temple.

Nyles just sighs. He always matches the king's dress so he has a sword but no armor. Fabulous. He looked to his sister and the idiot girl, and then the other bastard and her daughter. Clearly the gods had no interest in the sanctity of their own house, he could always dedicate shed blood to the Warrior. Or the Stranger, he'll. He counts his few options. "Aye," he said, "they are here." Long shot time. "The Blackfyres honored the gods' wishes," he said. "The red dragons challenged the black before all that is holy to a trial by combat." He gestured about. "It seems the Father's wisdom is greater than our own."

A man is not made more holy for attempting to murder his own brother!" Sooty, Mad-Eye, and the Lady of Deadly Assumptions began to heatedly discuss their course of action with the other devout dissidents. More and more Smallfolk began to gather before the statue of the Warrior, including some of the lesser merchants. Many of the nobility gave uneasy looks in their direction, including Fireball and one of the royal twins. The King himself and Ser Richard appeared to be absent.

Below the main chamber, Daemon lights a torch for Ser Richard. "Do you know why why I brought you here and not one of the others?" Richard takes the torch and looks around "Because I am the newest of the kingsguard, sire?" he says doubtfully. He was not sure at all what they were doing down here.

Smallfolk having opinions was like giving the influenze virus voting privileges to nobles. The king's squire was quiet a moment as the trio bickered, but their bickering would not last long. He looked to Myrcella a moment and then arched an eyebrow as the prince and Lord Commander showed the first signs of fear. Nobles and little brothers can never show fear. And peasants may not speak treason before the king's own squire, in any circumstance. His left hand he statrted it's quivering as the three spoke, but in a moment's notice it stilled as he made up his mind. Lord Hightower could get his apology later. Knights were made for killing and peasants were made for being ruled. He turned to Alice. "Sister,, now that you've paid respects to the gods, perhaps you should go attend the queen? Right now."

If one of my Kingsguard did commit this crime, it wasn't by my command. And long before they wore the white cloak, most of them were my best killers. They're soldiers first, Richard. Even Fireball could have done this if he thought he saw an enemy that needed to die. And my brother Aegor, despite his unquestioned devotion to me, would murder cities to keep me and my family on the Iron Throne without losing sleep. You, Ser Richard, are the only one who I know has not had his conscience whittled away in the name of victory. You still feel regret. That's how I know I can trust you."

"Your grace, I cannot believe one of your own kingsguard would do such a thing" says Richard in dismay, though not for the reason the king might think "Not while wearing the white cloak. I mean, it would make no sense to do such a thing while dressed as such unless they were intentionally seeking to undermine you! It makes far more sense that a enemy of your has done this act, and dressed their assassin in a white cloak to discredit us."

Daemon lead Richard into what appeared to be the personal quarters of the Most Devout. This area's opulence put most bedrooms in the Red Keep to shame. "Perhaps. But if they really did use a secret passage, they might have thought they could avoid notice. Aegor and Shiera should know how to access one, if it existed. Alford certainly would. Perhaps Butterwell and Corbray."

They may have adhered to the same faith, but the meanings of the words were completely different to them. "So we are here to see if there is such a passage?"

Richard followed, voice stilled to silence by the sight of the quarters of the "Most Devout". This was not the church he knew, nor the one he followed. They may have adhered to the same faith, but the meanings of the words were completely different to them. "So we are here to see if there is such a passage?" "Precisely, and to determine if it has been used lately." Daemon paused to find his bearings. If the High Septon's room is that way..." He gestured towards a particularly ornate door at one end of the hallway. "And Septa Catelyn entered where we're standing... Then the killer came from this direction..." The rest of his King's words are lost on the knight. He is treading carefully towards that door with practiced deftness, like his father taught him while hunting on their estate. Past the unlocked door, the fat man snores loudly. Richard knows there will be no challenge if he should wake early, but this is not an execution. This is an assassination. And Richard Blackfort is the man for the job.
His hands move with practiced speed, grabbing the pillow from beneath the High Septon's head and swiftly covering his face. This is good... This will keep blood off his beautiful white armor...
Richard thinks of Gwayne Corbray, that sanctimonious prick. That moment at Redgrass, when he lay in his white armor in Daemon's tent after almost costing his life... He should have used a pillow then too.
And suddenly, his brother Hoster is screaming at him. He doesn't understand the words because he's remembering a day forty years ago. He remembers shoeing an angry horse for Old Lord Lucas Lothson. Richard is still strong, and proves it by completing his task without being crippled by the beast. Now, Hoster is shattering his leg like that horse would have. Why is his brother hurting him? Where is his grandson?
Where is his little girl? Richard is running through Harrentown directly from his smithy. His wife has just told him Simon Whent took Jeyne while playing with her friends. Why does he need so many children? Richard will never forgive himself for not being there. And he will never forgive Simon Whent.
Richard is watching a beautiful, young woman vivisect a still crying baby. Beside her is the pale man from King's Landing, giving instructions in a soft, patient voice. Richard is in love with the one, terrified of the other. Why did he even come to Harrenhal? Suddenly, he looks up at Richard with red eyes. "You're not meant to be here, white cloak. Attend to your duties and forget these moments."Suddenly, Richard was lying on the hard floor before the High Septon's chamber, with Daemon staring down at him. "Gods, man, what's come over you?"

"Right, then," said Harlan, putting a hand on Alice's back to steer her away from there. "I think it's about time we rejoined the others. If you'd come with me," he told the other ladies and Nyles, and attempted to cautiously lead them away from the Warrior and back to the other nobles.

Alice hadn't been sure what to say, confused and worried about the smallfolk who seemed to be so dead set against the Blackfyres. When Ser Harlan offered to usher her and the others away she gave a nod and a thankful smile. "Of course, Ser Harlan," she said, trying not to let her worry show in her voice.

The woman in red held tightly on to Ser Harlan's arm. "My name is Myrcella Reyne. My father will be very appreciative if you save me from being killed or even raped. If you have to kill women and children too, I really am fine with that." Her voice was calm. She had probably been trained her entire life for this eventuality.

Harlan was a little surprised at the lady's frankness and her willingness to sacrifice innocent people to preserve her own well-being. "I will make sure no harm comes to any of you, my lady," he told her with a reassuring smile. "That includes the women and children. Surely the people know better than to start trouble in this holy place." As soon as he'd said that, he was reminded of the smallfolk, spitting all over the floor not two minutes ago.
He attempted to politely remove his hand from Myrcella's grasp.
