The Blackfort group is escorted up the stairs to Ser Simon's solar, on the way catching glimpses of the granary, brimming with grain despite the veritable siege taking place. Knights, out of their intimidating black plate, just men now, stare at the strangers. Two fully armored knights guard the entrance to the solar, one of them opening the door and allowing Saesha and Percival entry.
"Just her and the maester," the guard indicated, putting a hand to the rest. "The rest of you can wait below."

Saesha didn't look back as she stepped in, not wanting to look like she needed the others, when really, she would have much preferred them as one group.
She looked straight ahead as she walked in, looking for the man in question.

Percival followed after his lady with a neutral expression on his face. He looked at the these Riverland Knights with none of his contempt showing. They were vile creatures broken by the war. Such weak fools were still dangerous though. Percival watched them, his bored expression hiding his concern.

Tallahar scowled as the knight ordered him to stay in the granaries.

Ser Simon Whent awaited the lady and the maester, in full plate armor, though his black skull helmet sat atop a small writing desk which looked ridiculous in the hall-sized room. It took what look at the man to know this was not just a uniform to him, but an identity, a second skin he had been wearing since before Saesha was even born. His eyes were lined with the wrinkles of a man who scowls far too often, but he still looked strong and capable. The kind of man who pressed on through force of will, one who knew the mind ruled the body not the body the mind. His face was gaunt, clearly having taken half rations even with their ample food stores, though his men all looked well fed. "My men tell me you have come to treat as the sister of the king," the experienced old knight began, tone sharp, one used to barking orders and them being followed without question. "Which king would that be?"

"I am his sister either way," Saesha replied, it was true, both Daemon and Daeron were her brothers. "I have not come to treat as her, I am her. I am Saesha Seastar. King Daemon married me to the man he named the Lord of Harrenhal after he was sent word of the death of Lady Lothson." she explained. "You must be Simon Whent, Knight of the Wailing Tower. I have been told you hold a great respect for loyalty."

"So the Blacks won the war?" he asked rhetorically, before talking to himself. "Damn that albino, so sure of himself. Though I hear he got his in the end."
"I am he and you heard correct, my lady. Somone has to in times such as these. An oath is worthless if it is never tested and the realm is full of weak men."

She wanted to ask what happened when the person you made an oath to breaks their oaths, but decided not to.
"I agree, and I understand you have had your oath greatly tested recently. I also keep to my oaths. I promised our King I would life Harrenhal to greater heights. You can imagine my surprise when I find it's people starved and two bands of knights warring in it's Halls. What do you think of duty, Ser Simon?"

"My oath is resolute as ever, clear as ever. My duty is to hold this tower, as I have done for forty years, from enemies within and without," the grim knight replied with ardent conviction. "There are traitors, oathbreakers, and bandits within Harrenhal that must be purged before I can concern myself with issues outside the curtain wall. I would be honored to raise the keep to these lofty heights beside you and our new lord, once that task has been seen to."

"What do you do when your duties cross paths?" she asked him, "We all have duties, we all make oaths. How do you choose to act when those oaths are oppose one another?"

"Things look fairly black and white from where I'm standing," Ser Simon said with certainty. "Not sure if the laws have changed under the Blacks, but what is the typical punishment for a knight that butchers his liege at the dinner table, among the bread and salt?"

Percival restrained himself from speaking. The effort that took caused him to smirk with private pride. He thought well of this vampire before him. He seemed like a man Percival could admire.

"The laws have not changed, Ser," she confirmed, "I am speaking of when an oath one makes to a liege conflict with the oaths one makes when made a knight."

"The former trumps all," he replied, without the slightest hesitation. "The oath of a knight is an ideal to strive for. The oath to a liege is a sacred pact between ruler and the ruled. It is the basis of feudalism, the basis of law, and the bedrock of our very civilization."
