I'm totally using the white and black sigil. As the hedge knight uncle, it'd make sense for me to keep the same heraldry of the house, even when y'all change to the fancy dancy new one.

I think we're done with the sigil stuff guys and have moved on to character creation. If someone wants to make a castle one with the raven added in after redgrass, be my guest and we can make a poll to vote on it. Otherwise it's going to be the one I posted on the front page.

I agree, let's got with the BlackSword-WhiteRaven on Red for our current sigil and BlackFort on White for our old sigil.
Now here is something relevant to the uncles , what was the name of Bruce, Hoster and Richard's parents? Father seems to have been quite a martial type of guy.

I mean if we're going with the theme, Thomas wouldn't be out of place, hah.

If I'm a distant cousin, would it make sense for me to continue using the old sigil?

I would say yes. It's a bit blurry though, with Belric's branch being the main Blackfort family line, and our only point of reference for new heraldry is seen in cadet branches establishing themselves. As main branch they may have precedence on defining what the family's heraldry should be.
The way I see it, Belric is essentially redefining his family as the Blackforts of Harrenhal, as opposed to the Blackforts of Harroway. It would make sense that a non-direct relative would not bear the heraldry of the "new" house as he is more closely tied to the Harroways rather than the Harrenhals.
Belric seems a chummy fella though, I'm sure if you asked nicely he'd let you take the new sigil. It could also be seen as a sign of loyalty to Belric that one would choose to honor his new family heraldry.

The idea was that most of you are riding his coattails and basically mooching off the big castle, wealth, and power now at his disposal. Even distant family members would want to associate themselves with the new sigil and family as it buys you more influence and a better chance to get you and your own children better marriages through association. The only one that wouldn't logically be using the new sigil is Richard, because he's Kingsguard and has nothing more to gain from his family.

Yeah, if the doors open and the new Lord of Harrenhal says he's cool with you riding off his fame I don't see why you wouldn't take that freebie.

Makes sense. Maybe I'll have a chat with Belric about it IC.
